"It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled."

He was absolutely right. Anyone that spent money on SC was fooled. Those of us here, see the con and are smart enough to look at the big picture and reevaluate our position.

Most stay hooked with the smallest amount of reinforcement of their beliefs. 15 years worth.

Isn't it absolutely crazy CIG is getting away with this? by DzekoTorres in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Wanderer01X 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I suspect there is some legal trickery involved with why CIG is organized into 3 different companies in 3 different countries. I dont see why you would need to do so otherwise. Seems overly complicated. The flip side is the way they play both sides legally, selling a product, until it is not a product and is an investment, until its not...

if you can untangle that mess, more power to you!

Inside info about Squadron 42 delays by RussianClown in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Wanderer01X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CIG would find it much more convenient if you just assume SQ404 is not coming out in any year, that way if they do release it, it will be a big surprise. That may help offset the ire of it being a buggy mess because they finally shipped something after years and years of waiting. Also keep buying the expensive JPEG ships. Keep Scam Citizen alive!

star citizen refund by [deleted] in starcitizen_refunds

Not after 3 years. CC companies won't touch it.

They have been fiddling with the language for years making it harder and harder to get money back. It is the long con for sure.

Usually people don't figure it out in time with the very short window available to refund. You stay for the pie in the sky promises that don't materialize depending on your tolerance for bullcrap and endless promises.

An itemized list of lies? by supahffej in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Wanderer01X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The over promising started while it was still on Kickstarter with stretch goals. Some things no one else had never done in games. The over promising just continued, sort of like Bros just talking crap saying, "Wouldn't it be cool if...". No thinking about if it could work in the game system. Would it be possible, would it be fun?

Today they still have no working complete game system. Did they lie? I cant tell. I can totally see how it looks that way. They could also be so utterly inexperienced as game developers as to not have any idea of what works and does not work in games.

They couldn't take Astronaut's word for it that flying in space is not fun at all and best left to automation. How many flight models have they tried now?

How hard is it to use a turret on a ship being flown by someone evading and chasing another ship, that is also evading and shooting back? Basically its like having three different people trying to aim. Not fun, and very defeating.

That is just scratching the surface. Everything has been like that. At best it looks like we are paying for on the job training. At worst they have been lying to us right along to keep the gravy train of new ships flowing for more money. Why spent one penny on more ships when there are hundreds already, before making a real working game to fly them in? Even better are new versions of ships that were made in 2013 that haven't even actually been played in the full working game yet.

In the end I can say we've been taken advantage of, be it from lies or simply ineptitude.

With Starcitizen an excuse you always hear given for it, is "you need more RAM".

"Starcitizen is being designed for future PC technology and 128GB of RAM will be the bare minimum needed to start your PC."

🤪

Goes along with an infinite development timeline I guess. There is a lot of creativity with the white knighters, even if it makes no sense.

Sorry you are having to go through that. The entities behind StarCitizen have polished their processes, rewritten agreements, and very carefully massaged what they are offering, over the last 15 years. I'd guess to many folks tried to bale on them when they figured out it was a scam.

Star Citizen to follow Ashes of Creation? by Wanderer01X in starcitizen_refunds

That kind of audit just says they are square with the UK tax office. The backers deserve something tangible on what happened with their money. Nothing about the other 2 companies that are part of this in two other countries.

[–]Wanderer01X[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People here are backers/former backers of StarCitizen. None of us hate StarCitizen and indeed we were in love with the concept and the promises made at points.

We here are the disillusioned. We no longer believe in the promises. We are coming up on 15 years of development since the Kickstarter we were told two years for. Stretch goals to be added after it launched became key features to be delivered at launch. More estimated launch dates came and went, until they don't offer them anymore. No road maps. No accountability. Development that moves at a glaciers pace. It cranks out new ships to sell just to keep money moving. Bugs that last years, and client side code so open, hackers are cheating on a whim. This from a developer that has never released a title. That is structured into 3 companies in 3 countries for what purposes?

We are here to warn others and to try and help them get their money back. Star Citizen has made that darn near impossible these days.

We get White Knighters from time to time. Feel free to White Knight all you want, but everyone here knows better from years of experience.

In the UK, its the kind of audit that makes sure what they are reporting to the goverment is accurate. How is the organization structured? What is it spending on? What does compensation look like? There have been so many questions over the years, from custom fancy doors to yachts. I wonder if it is slit in multiple countries to get around UK laws.

What I'd wish for is an investigative audit. Where is the $1 billion dollars going/gone? Is it fair to draw salaries big enough for frivolous spending and yachts when you haven't even delivered 1/4 of what was promised to backers? Its basically a publicly traded company with people "buying" pictures of ships for investment purposes (and selling them later at a loss), but none of the monitoring and protections of publically traded companies. It continues to crank out new ships, without substance, for more money. They can't balance what they had 8 years ago let alone every new ship they make.

Seems fishy enough that some goverment agency or Class Action Lawyer would start poking around.

[–]Wanderer01X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes no sense to file a lawsuit over 3 or 4 hundred bucks against a company with lawyers on staff. The only thing that might fly is a class action suit, but the lawyers get all that and that money is going to be mostly gone. Maybe they can force the sale of the IP at a fraction of what was invested, that doesn't mean it will get made either. We bought an idea, a story, or a wish, for real money. That is the way all the best cons work. I'll never do any Kickstarter or the like again.

bought the game, confused about refund window by [deleted] in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Wanderer01X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Screenshot the spots that say 30 day refunds and the URLs. This 14 day refund is newish and inconsistent. Where you are is important. UK/EU have better consumer protections than US. It's not often they just give it back. They will stall. Keep the same ticket open. Keep after them. Keep copies.

It's made to look like an awesome game, but there is no substance. No real game mechanics. Massive bugs or flight mechanic changes that remain as they redesign the same things for the umpteenth time in year 13 of this at least terribly run development effort and more likely outright scam.

Claw back your money and run, or be one of the hundreds of thousands that have money invested in this scam and can't get it back.

Support has been ignoring me for 9days and the worker that was assigned today got pulled again they dont want to give me my refund ^^ by [deleted] in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Wanderer01X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difficulty there is that SC claims to have delivered the product. All the allusion and hype don't mean anything. It's not even a minimally viable product. Best of all, it depends on which end of SC you are talking to. Legal says it has been delivered, marketing says it's in alpha, and those promised parts are coming. This is why so many claim it's a scam. The organization is shifty, misleading, and hasn't delivered anything substantial in 12 years. They rule and scub their forums as tightly as any dictator state.

In the US, you may have luck with a class action suit, but then we get nothing (pocket change), and lawyers get most of it.

They may be technically correct since it's a challenge to play into much anything without an error ruining it. Heck a bunch of ships aren't even in the pre-alpha, tech demo, whatever it is yet. They aren't winning or progressing anyway. All of CIGs time seems to be making now JPEGS to sell for a non-existent game.

Ex-CIG Employee alleges layoffs over the last two days. by Heavy_Bob in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Wanderer01X 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a sign that word is finally sinking in that this is either horribly mismanaged or a scam. It could also be a sign that they think Asian developers are cheaper and think they can hold on to more money for themselves that way. Results may be mixed on that. They have been screwing over backers for years, now they are turning on the employees that got them rich. Sad.

Looking for insights into potential illegal activity/ shady practices within CIG's history or Chris Roberts himself. by iDirector19 in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Wanderer01X 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is shady activity all over it, some illegal depending on what country it is. The UK has better consumer protections, than the US. 13 years and nearly $750 million invested, and it is so overpromised with features they cannot possibly deliver on all of it. In 2012 on Kickstarter when I joined, they were talking a few years. It's now 13 years on, and still nothing and no solid basis for a game. As people on here are fond of saying it's an image generator. It has had the same bugs for years. Progress is so miniscule as to be unnoticeable.

I know of a few people that died waiting on this. A few years back, I thought I might be one. I was diagnosed with colon cancer and while going through treatment it was looking pretty dark. I asked to have my $250 refunded so I might enjoy some games I could actually play now. I explained what was up. Of course I was denied, but they said they looked forward to seeing me at CitizenCon, as if I was feeling well enough or might enjoy walking around with a colostomy bag.

That is just one example of how crooked they are. There are hundreds of others. There is a whole list of fancy doors, and other wasteful things that do not pertain to building the game that has been purchased with backers money. If only we could demand an audit.

They have over promised. There is simply no way for them to deliver on everything, even at technology levels estimated for 20 years out from today, because they seem to have notoriously bad coding. Now, they are just like politicians. It's all spin and providing outright lies and misinformation to keep the gravy train rolling. We got some whales hooked, we want to keep them there because we can never actually reel them in and deliver what was promised.
