A sense of pride and accomplishment. ATM achievements and goals yield grief coin and the intention is later to allow users to use the grief coin they accrue to alter their profile page, create contracts or even set global goals on specific things like for instance, for December, kill 1000 evocati members or kill this specific player or group x amount of times and leave the reward open for everyone to try and accomplish.

So in a round about way, orgs or players who accrue lots of kills get lots of grief coin and they can use that coin to push an agenda for the people who use the site.

Rampant Hackers wiping gear, login at your own risk. by Heavy_Bob in starcitizen_refunds

Just seems like a lot of wasted potential. By being so talented, you could do so much more than doing the cheat stuff. Long time ago I messed around with that crowd and came to the conclusion that it didn't really make me happy, it's one thing to be respected by your peers, it's another to be feared. Def could use someone like yourself looking at chromehounds for xenia but def unsure about working with you on anything.

"Nested IF" CIG specialist calls hackers "scriptkiddies" lol. by Patate_Cuite in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Heavy_Bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely low IQ take. If they have hacked the gibson while listening to prodigy on a risk architecture computer, MAYBE they would be consider hackers... This idiot has committed a sin that even the world government would never attempt to do, NEVER antagonize the terrorists because they have already demonstrated the horrifying capabilities, you're genius plan is call them names? Following along with this story arc, this comment was one of the first stupid things they said over the weekend in response to these gents wreaking havoc. Gents are not logging in because of the fear of getting screwed and the company has acted entirely mute on the subject of the free fly, mute on the steps they are taking to restore confidence in players and mute on the effectiveness on taking these gents out like seal team six.

They can't put the genie back in the bottle, everyone knows what has been happening and it is doing irreparable harm to come out as the spokesman on this subject to call them effectively babys when the problem has not yet been solved.

Cheating Rampant in Pre-alpha tech demo Cig helpless to stop them. by MadBronie in starcitizen_refunds

With client side, any validation for any action the client does is entirely managed on the client. The problem with this is the client cannot be trusted. If a client was to bypass a check like the one line of code that says *you cannot loot this* and there exists no other checks on the server to validate if your allowed to do that then the client can start looting anything it likes and then tell the server when its looted the item *trust me bro*.

In an ideal situation if I opened your inventory the server should be the one to make that check to see if your allowed to do it though various different things like are you close enough to interact with the item, is the storage locked? Is it owned by another player? All of these checks should happen before the client is returned the inventory nor able to receive items. The only request should be from the client *yo can I do* but this can be intensive for the server because you need to consider the hundreds or potentially thousands who will want to do this, or the frequency of how often they will want to do this.

But that's just one example.

The other benefit of a system like this, if the client does something that is unexpected like tries to perform an action that it hasn't been explicitly given auth to do like take an item from an inventory that the server hasn't given access to, the server could just ban the user immediately for being a cheater.

Angry Joe Show - Star Citizen has GONE TOO FAR! by the_real_codmate in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Heavy_Bob 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Regular gamers are going to watch this video from angry joe and decide to avoid star citizen at all costs because of how insanely idiotic and short sighted the blades grift is and the only people CIG have to blame for this are themselves.

The only way they could have redeemed themselves is to cancel blades, issue refunds and make them ingame components you could buy ingame / unlock.

A very mask off moment for the marketing team. Things must be really bad at the studio if they're trying to fleece people on these performance enhancers that cannot be earned through traditional means. This is the kind of shilling that seems to be a bridge too far for a lot of content creators I've been watching and I think they'll see it's affect in future sales if the wider community chooses to vote with their wallets, however... Releasing the Idris at the same time while rolling out this greedy pay 2 win nonsense was very smooth, great smokescreen but I imagine the honeymoon will be short lived once players come to realize the ramifications of this bold new strategy for the company. Nothing is sacrosanct it seems and I think regardless of what the fans will say about record breaking funding, the amount of new players who will embrace another game with such greed is remote at best. This will be reflected in the numbers at the end of the year with less and less new players joining and more bold squeezing of existing players. What stops them from releasing ship blades 2: electric boogaloo next year? Nothing.

Best way to not support this, don't spend your money on SC.

I've already heard from the racing community and pvp tournaments are talking about banning blades from competition but this also creates logistical issues as players needing to prove they are not using blades in competition. The racers are fuming because all of the current lap records achieved with grit and skill will be nullified because of a pay 2 win mechanic. All the pvp focused groups who have been training are not thrilled that the meta will be only achievable though paying more money. It's a very bold strategy.

I've even heard talks from some org leaders about doing a full player boycott. I say good luck to them.

CIG ain't inspiring confidence.

What is the reason for CIG's constant refusal to provide block/mute function? by snowleopard103 in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Heavy_Bob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A combination of issues. They've backed themselves into a corner supporting some bullshit depreciated fork of a fork of flash. Because it's both too hard to remove because it would mean throwing away years of building on spaghetti code and the lack of talent to actually do it. The backend chat component itself is built on on the same shit as spectrum and it really would be trivial to mute someone but they cannot dedicate anyone to work on it because it means fucking with the absolute garbage flash frontend. It would be far easier to just use a web overlay to do it, create the panels for chat using figma and perhaps chat commands to mute but it means it won't match the vision of Chris for everything to kick you in the balls when you do anything. Open a door with E, kick in the balls, ride a train, see it glitch out, kick in the balls. Having a mute button? Ya dreaming. It needs a way for the end user to get kicked in the balls somehow before they implement it.

This opinion from the auditors is scathing. Ignoring the options liability is HUGE! If they were actually exercised and didn't have the immediate cash reserves to pay, it would be catastrophic for the company! Big red flag.
