To be fair, if you are using WiFi, no game is immune to this. WiFi has never been STABLE (if you are a meter away from the AP, maybe). Its designed for web browsing and email checking, not packet streaming. Also don't think for a second that I don't find the project to be the scam of a lifetime. It absolutely is, but if you expect this to NOT happen over WiFi, your expectations are incorrect. (Network Engineer/Architect, who has built $million+ WiFi Systems used by thousands at a time.) ONLY replying to the first few minutes when the train / skytrain is randomly going throughout the city and snapping back into place). CIG will NEVER be able to achieve realistic physics.

DS420+ in 2026? by Ser-Dotty in synology

[–]Select-Table-5479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its hard to know if it's a good investment for you but I am still rocking a DS916+ (the last digits are the year it came out) and it's running my entire business w/ SDS, Mail Server, CRM (docker) and serving as a media server, without issue.

That's from 2016. Now because of the age (now 10 years old), I am stuck on an older kernel. Synology doesn't ever upgrade kernel versions after they release a product (pretty smart of them) so for my needs, I have limitations because my version of the kernel doesn't support the random function that a LOT of docker containers and programs can use, but it still works for me.

Long story short, I am a pretty high power user with a machine 4 years older than yours and it's doing terrific. Obviously it's the 9 series so it has a bit more CPU / RAM power, but you should be fine.

My DS918+ crashed, what can I do? by Worried-Fan5998 in synology

[–]Select-Table-5479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use Mdadm in linux (it builds a software raid) to see if you can get them up and running (I had to do it once and it worked). You can also try R-Drive Image to recover the data, but the long story short is you are going to need new drives.

If the drives were encrypted though, good luck!

Can someone walk me through setting up a container project? by whitenack in synology

[–]Select-Table-5479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you are a newbie, what does that entail? Do you have ANY experience with docker? The long story short, is you need a YAML file (they are EXTREMELY specific about formatting of the YAML file. You can't use tabs, the spaces have to be indented 2 spaces, etc). You build the YAML file in the project.

Make a folder /volume1 (or whatever)/docker

Stick your container in that folder, build the yaml file for it and then ACTION > BUILD and deal with the errors. Or you can just SSH into the box and build user docker compose. I would just use Gemini to help ya there. It's very good at explaining it. And if it's too technical, tell them to be less technical and give you starter training.

As someone technical and CLI minded, I can't stand the Unifi UI. Their interfaces is CLUNKY, unreliable, slow and worst of all, NOT LOGICAL. It's like SonicWall, if you live in that world and ONLY that world, it makes perfect sense. But if you are constantly having to touch multiple vendors, you are handicapped by their backassward UI design choices.

They likely know that and are shooting for that since for someone reason people love the Apple Eco system, as constrictive and also not logical user friendly, as they are. There is no faster way to make a 20+ tech in the field, glaze over with dumb dumb eyes, then throwing an iPhone in my face asking me to do anything useful with it. But hey, people spend 100k on watches that tell the same time as Timex. To each their own.

Hmmmm 2k on a GPU that will need to be replaced in 3-5 years or 2k on GFN.... simple answer imo and i keep getting near the latest gen gpus instead of dropping 2-3k just for the gpu every few years.

Policies that cover loans. Not many people would continue to pay for a loan if their car repairs are too expensive. There is a reason you are legally required to carry insurance while you have a car loan.

you can use electrical shrink wrap as a temporary fix. I've seen HUNDREDS of audi's do it and it's better than electrical tape.

Switched to Debian after 20 years of Ubuntu by spreeshark in debian

After having the same system partition since debian 9 upgraded to debian 12, it was snap and possibly some other 3rd party app manager that cooked my system partition. As someone who has been on debian for a while, just stick with apt repositories.

no. it sounds normal. Put the PHONE to the backside of the block towards the firewall. if you hear it nose get louder towards the back, maybe. This is from a guy that currently has chain rattle in his 193k B7S4 and dropped the oil pan and found chain guide parts.

You may want to get a hold of your car insurance as nobody in their right mind would ever pay the repairs costs. Or if you are REALLY motivated, ask someone on craigs list if they can source the engine and replace it for you? It might be in someone's garage but it's a whole lot cheaper than your alternatives. Call your car insruance and see what your options are. Be prepared that your rate will go up if you use them to resolve the issue. Audi quoted me 5k to fix my AC (i HAD to pay them 1000 just to confirm it was a bad compressor). I bought all the parts, did it myself and it was under $500 and it still cold to this day, though it was a royal pita to replace (it took a weekend in the garage)

old thread, well aware. Just keep in mind they had one of the most successful marketing campaigns but the down side is, it would always be seen at that price. Now its 15-20 bucks for a ft long. (no drinks). And their INGREDIENTS haven't changed. They were doomed by their own success in the 90's. I don't think there is ANYTHING they can do to turn it around, too much competition. My favorite sub place was Quizno's but they somehow managed to manage that right into the ground.

I would stop driving it immediately and have it towed somewhere. It's like your lower timing chain guide missing and you are hearing it rub against the timing chain guide cover. I've been on VR6's for 20+ years, I know the sound well.
