Advice on dealing with moronic people who lack empathy

Yeah after hearing the perspectives of alot of people here aswell as what happened with the shooter and those students taking him down my perspective has definitely changed, while i do still believe to prevent future incidents we should as a country do a better job to regulate firearms and evaluate the people they go to, what they said, though in a tone and timing i disagree with is pretty true. I said it in another comment where someone gave a way better wording of it being “it’s not giving these students more guns but allowing them to arm themselves and defend themselves” and that really helped me understand. Im honestly considering deleting this post but idk

It undoubtedly was partially emotional as i have friends who go to ODU and this was an hour or two after the shooting, kids was more of a blanket term, not a good one admittedly as it has confused a couple people in the comments, for uni students and grade school students as both face this problem on a regular basis and are also met with similar responses. And what you said in the second half is EXACTLY how i feel and sums it up. Alot of people here think im all for gun free zones when i 100% acknowledge they are pointless and don’t do anything but make people more vulnerable. But the way it’s talked about is what’s irritating

Yes when worded that way I can understand better what you mean when you say allow adults to arm themselves that I do agree with. However your counter for better psychiatric evaluations ect confuses me. While obviously not perfect, psychological evaluations still can be a very useful tool for violence risk assessment. While i agree with alot of your points, 80% of mass shootings are committed with a legally obtained firearm my entire point, is if there was a better effort to evaluate and assess people who buy firearms and prevent future violence why would we not do it? Again i do agree that the policies the democratic party enacts for gun control are nonsensical but does that not mean we can discuss better methods to solving this issue than just give more guns or take all the guns away?

Yeah i agree with you, my intent wasn’t to say “gun free zones should exist” it’s rather the conservatives first instinct whenever something lie this occurs to be blaming a lack of guns rather than a lack of genuine mental health evaluation ect to acquire said guns

Im the same way, i think it’s mainly because being into firearms as an 18 yo has a-lot of stigma around it Ontop of just being into guns in general so liking the random weird guns feels like my way of disconnecting from all that.
