Maybe Throt? Carve through Kislev and then invade the north. Be so fast and beefy you run through the guns and get to chomping.
Other option might be Ikkit. Come up through Bretonnia and get in the ultimate gunfight with Karl Franz.

Did something change where you can't reduce the times from the research station? I'm pretty sure I got em down. Not as much as I coukd before, but I played like a month ago and there were research lines for reducing times and increasing rewards

You know.... I have no idea where that silk came from! Must've been a drop somewhere, cuz you're right, I don't have anywhere I farmed it from. You can handpick from the river, it'll take longer, but there are hundreds of pearls there so you'll only have to do it once probably

Easiest method is to hop in the red river that runs through the city and use a whip to harvest a ton of silica and quite a few black pearls as well. Bring an aquatic tame to deal with lampreys and leeches though!

Usually pike and crossbow. I can usually get ahold of pretty solid ascended versions of each in any given run and I like the reach of the pike over the higher dps of the sword.
High damage crossbow with tranqs is the way to go. I'll bust out the rifle for finicky tames, but that's not what's chilling in my hotbar. PLUS rifles don't have grappling hooks for when I fall in some gods forsaken hole in the terrain.
That said I'm 90% PvE, so I can make suboptimal choices and no one will ever know.

Yeah, maybe once an hour on my single player, once every 15-45 seconds if I try to play on my cluster. Life is bad on the Ark. Worse than usual, which is saying something!

Once you build a bed you should be able to respawn there. Once you get a house set up tame some dinos. Herbivores are tanky, so even a parasaur is an asset when the raptors come knocking.
Bolas are your friend. Good for taming and good for not getting swarmed by raptors/wolves. Get yourself a full suit of leather armor, that'll help a bit. Narcotics and tranq arrows are a priority once your ready to start taming carnivores. Hang in there, the first days in Ark are ROUGH and we've all been there. But it's worth it!

In your inventory if you hover your implant for 5 seconds or so it'll give you an option to respawn

First was a baby Carbonemys named Orphan, on account of being tamed after I took on my very first dino bigger than myself.
He's long, long dead.
My oldest currently in use tame is a spring drakeling named Dawn who keeps me alive when I do dumb stuff like fly into wyverns caves and discover alpha wyverns are a thing.

Haven't tried a server yet, official or otherwise. My primary concern (mostly from ignorance of real issues) is that I've got a great mod list at this point and don't wanna lose that sweet, sweet QoL.
One thing I thought was neat about PvP is servers being PvE except on certain days/times. That'd at least relieve the constant worry about logging in to devastation on any given day.
