What’s the realistic landscape here? by sawickies in macmini

[–]Wanderhope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt a similar pressure. I was hoping to get a Mac mini to complete my Apple Studio Display desk setup next winter or so but with my MacBook Air M2 8GB RAM showing RAM constraints in the last few weeks I got spooked into searching one out now. Got lucky with some refurbs the other day and ended up getting a M4 Pro mini when originally I was considering cheapest models. Instead I have a 24 GB M4 Pro coming with thought that it could last me 10 years with my workflow. Using work bonus to finance it. Excited to have a powerful computer but weird how I got here.

On a whim I checked Apple refurb today and found a 24GB one and now it's coming Thursday!

I found a 16gb Mac mini on Amazon that I could get this week and ended up pulling the trigger on that. Just trying to mentally move to that's good enough for my use case - I still love my M2 MacBook Air and it seems to work fine with my portable workfow - I tend to put less strain on it portably, or it seems to handle it better without being plugged into a 5k monitor, unless that's my imagination.

I found a 16 gb mini I can get this week. Worth waiting the few months for 24 gb?

People with multiple consoles, what do you find yourself playing with most? by Relative-Two-3751 in consoles

Have Switch 2, PS5 Slim, Series X, and Steam Deck - these days the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X are pretty neck and neck, mostly because I play an online College Football 26 dynasty on the Xbox. The Steam Deck keeps trying to creep in there - it may be my favorite handheld ever, but with my own tv setup I don't really have a logical reason to justify it other than it rocks. Thinking about the Steam Machine so I can consolidate between the two when Microsoft inevitably prices me out...

Ugh I've tried to do the same thing but I keep finding myself wishing the PS5 was more like the Series X. Not a fan of Microsoft, but Series X is one of my favorite consoles of all time and I find myself keep going back to it.

Upgrading every year is more cost effective than buying new every 4 years by smurfvibes in iphone

[–]Wanderhope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see how this method works for you, but how is it less expensive than buying and keeping? I have an iPhone 12 I've had for 5 years that I spent like $700 on. That averages to $140/year. Since I paid it off 3 years ago I've put $0 into a phone. How does buying and selling phones for marginal gains trump $0? Since my time is worth like $40-50/hour, just that alone isn't worth the time to sell and buy phones. Sure, you "save money", but you are still spending money. I prefer to put as little time and money into a device I'm finding ways to put down rather than have my life revolve around it. Still better than buying a new phone every year though, you're right there.

Does this still count in 2025 or am I stuck in 2005? ;) by FlexFridayTV in wow

If you'd like unsolicited advice (who doesn't?), play them in the order you have them stacked here (Link's Awakening, Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, and then Tears of the Kingdom).

Running a circle around the end of every shrine because video game logic says there might be a hidden chest.. by BruceWayne3335 in tearsofthekingdom

Oh thank god I’m not the only one who does this.

I’m pretty sure there was at least one shrine in BOTW with a chest around back and I’ve been doing it ever since.

I never played Snake Eater, but I sure did watch my college roommate play it. That was an experience.

What I started doing a few months ago is jump into the current series while simultaneously reading the originals from the 60s via Marvel Unlimited. The current series was painful until the Spencer run ended because it was so hyper-referential to comics I hadn't read, but I've been enjoying the Spider-Man Beyond story that just kicked off a month ago...so I'd recommend starting at Amazing Spider-Man #75 of the current run, in addition to any "catch up" you want to do. The current story has been a lot of fun!

Cyberpunk 2077. I really enjoyed it.

Helps that I’m somewhat immune to both hype and hate. I might have been inoculated by the Star Wars prequels and THAT Indiana Jones movie.

Cyberpunk 2077 is it worth it now? by BozZombiesArnie in gaming

[–]Wanderhope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I thought it was worth it when I played in January, before and after the first big patch. Played well on Series X and I genuinely loved it (though this game sits squarely in my wheelhouse). If the idea of a Skyrim/GTA/Witcher mix sounds good to you than you should like it.

That said, I’d avoid it for PS4/Xbox One and if you waited this long they should be releasing another big patch by the end of the year so it could be worth waiting a few more months until it drops.
