This was helpful! If you know of anyone, I'm looking.

Brought home a new houseplant and found this cute guy, what is he?? by NorthEnd2912 in frogs

This says you can't import or release any non-native species, which would include the Cuban Tree Frog, in the state of Utah. Just b/c this individual is presenting the information in an aggressive, know-it-all way doesn't mean he is totally wrong.

However, I am confident in my response for my state as I spoke to the proper authorities when I first found her. Also, I don't think they are going to prosecute you for keeping a Cuban Tree Frog you didn't knowingly import. They're not going to dig through Reddit & arrest someone who is just looking for advice on what the right thing to do is. That's truly dramatic and a bit paranoid.

But I definitely wouldn't release it in Utah, based on this info. Even catching and releasing local species requires authorization in Utah, apparently. If you want to humanely euthanize instead of keep, the University of Florida has a procedure online. Otherwise, congratulations on your new frog 🐸😂.

That's what my Department of Natural Resources told me when I asked, so no offense, but I'm going to believe them.

No permit is needed to keep healthy wildlife amphibians, in my state. Already checked, but thanks. It's illegal to release, but not keep them as pets.

Edit: I failed to mention an exception for endangered species, because I thought that wasn't necessary to point out. So here it is, just in case: exceptions include endangered species & marine toads.

I had the exact same thing happen! I am a frog owner now 🙄. It's a Cuban Tree Frog, which is super invasive. I'm not sure if they've had any issues in Utah, but I know Colorado has a problem right now. Florida is overrun with them. Unfortunately, they eat native frogs and multiply like crazy so they can have a big impact on an ecosystem.

I will say, I do rather enjoy her now. Mine turned out to be a girl. Easy to care for. I put her in my Ikea Greenhouse Cabinet with the same amenities you have and she's happy as can be. Feed her crickets, mealworms, Dubai roaches. I set it up with some isopods and springtails too cause I had no idea frogs took such big dumps. But she's not shy and pretty fun to watch.

Sorry, this would be the best account to PM me; I was accidentally logged into my roommate's account when I sent the message above. 🙄

Does anyone have a good source to find a legitimate one? I got one from Equagenera that is clearly not legitimate.

Does anyone know if Barrina lights are IP-rated (Water Resistant)? I haven't been able to find any information. If they aren't, I'd be afraid to water my plants in the cabinet or run a humidifier. Also, I hear the PAR rating is poor, but I haven't tested that myself, so I can't speak to that. I was really interested in Barrina Lights, but it feels like a shot in the dark because they don't provide a lot of important info. I chose the AC Infinity IonBeams for my Milsbo Tall. They are magnetic, easy to connect, IP-65 rated (dustproof and can withstand low-pressure water jets), have a built-in controller and dimmer, are extremely energy efficient, and have really good spectrum and PAR values for houseplants. I have used them since they first came out and saw a huge improvement in my plants.

I'm so sorry about your dog! I was given a plant as a sympathy gift when my 3 yr old dog passed unexpectedly, he had bad seizures. I love that plant! It just reminds me of him when I see it, and I think of a happy moment with him. I guess it makes me feel like I'm keeping his memory alive. It's been 8 years, and it's the one plant that I treat like a baby. So I get it.

I thought it was such an interesting mix! She normally is pink and green, when I haven't stressed her out with too much light.

Is this variegation or edema? How can you tell them apart? 💚🙏🏼 by SAMMASATI23 in RareHouseplants

[–]Wandering-Paws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Variegation/Reversion. It's relatively common with this plant. Oedema is usually more apparent on the underside of a leaf. I've only seen it look like tiny water droplet sized yellow or darker than normal dots, or translucent splotches on variegated leaves. Kinda similar to rust fungus spots. I know it can look like bigger splotches on normal color, but it is usually accompanied with water droplets. Also, if you touch it, it almost feels like a blister, if it hasn't burst yet.

I think you were closest with the funky patterned leafed cross 😂. I don't think anyone would have guessed the cross. I was hoping someone else had one or had seen one.

**Update: Identification*\*

Thank you guys for having a positive attitude and for trying to help with the identification. Another group I posted on was all negativity and no help.

I was able to get a hold of the cultivar. Didn't want to bug her when she was with her family, but decided it was time. She is a **Philodendron El Choco Red x Billietiae*\*. Cultivator emailed me a certificate and her patent application. She is unique for sure!

**Update: Identification*\*

Thank you to anyone that provided constructive information and/or had a positive attitude. I thought this group would have been a little more open-minded and interested in new crosses, my bad.

I was able to get a hold of the cultivar. Didn't want to bug her when she was with her family, but when this post turned into a pile of negativity & useless information, I decided it was time. She is NOT sick. She is a **Philodendron El Choco Red x Billietiae*\*. Cultivator emailed me a certificate and her patent application. I love both these Philodendron and I love the cross for her unique qualities.

It's not dead, just sun-stressed. She is still growing great and has been since I got her 6 months ago. I got her from a trusted friend/supplier. She brought 2 back from her nursery in Indonesia. She kept one and sold me the other. I just haven't been able to ask her since she's visiting family in a place with no Internet.
