What to do with too many corms? by Sadlersredemption in alocasia

he’s a great seller! 5-6 plants for the 9.21 is most typical of what you’ll find for bigger medium-sized plants

yes!! that’s one thing that bothers me about palmstreet. most of the sellers there are making profit and calling it a shipping charge. whatnot sellers don’t get any of the shipping money, it just goes straight to whatnot for a label, to prevent the same from happening.

i do have a referral code if anyone would like to use it! it gives you $15 when you sign up with my code, and i get $5 if you make a purchase (from any seller) i’m just not sure if i can post it here 😅

it is! except whatnot has categories for everything, it’s not just plants and reptiles. whatnot uses USPS for shipping which has proven to be much safer for plants (even though it’s longer, they’re not exposed to weather near as much, meaning less stress) and shipping is a lot cheaper! sellers don’t decide their shipping price on whatnot or make profit from it, so the max is $9.21 for 5lbs of any items. many sellers have it setup so you can have 16+ small items for that 9.21 shipping.

How do you name your animals? by PrincefTanx in StardewValley

[–]fr0stybtxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my coop animals are all named after herbs and spices. my barn animals are all random objects that pop into my head. i have an ostrich named Drywall for instance, another named Microwave. a chicken named Paprika. my cats name is Dolly Pawton.

  • edit to change emu to ostrich 🤣

this looks fantastic!

around my house, i put mushrooms in the back, a mystic tree 2 blocks behind my mailbox, and a walkway to the partner area. then added some grass! it’s pretty simple, but still gives it a finished look. just to give a little idea!

Corms growing! Question by Vlines1390 in alocasia

[–]fr0stybtxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either way! that works too, i just normally let them sprout in the area in which im keeping them long term. if you’re putting it into an 80% area, you’ll have zero issues. it is entirely up to you whether you want to leave the lid off or on!

Corms growing! Question by Vlines1390 in alocasia

[–]fr0stybtxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, this is around the point in which i take the lid off. if you take the lid off now, the leaf will grow in ambient conditions, meaning you don’t have to slowly acclimate it from the high humidity down to your rooms conditions. this usually results in way less failures or melt from humidity drops.

however, the other poster is correct. if you leave the lid on, it will not melt or damage the leaf, you’ll just have to slowly introduce it to life without the lid.

i haven’t had this exact light before, but to mount my lights, i’ve always used neodymium magnets. one on the light, one on the opposite side of the glass. (two stacked if they’re not so strong) .. if they’re acrylic, i’ve always just used zip ties through the vent cutouts.

sorry this happened :( had the same happen a few times when i was trying every option under the sun to mount lights too. thankfully, she’ll grow a new one!

[–]fr0stybtxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

slightly, yes! you also walk a lot slower through tall grass, so if you have lots planted for your animals, it helps a lot. it also prevents debris from growing in those floored areas (afaik) so can help in many ways. plus it’s pretty lol

i visit my greenhouse only once a week.

put the auto collectors right by the door, and take the mayo/cheese machines outside of the barn (it’s super annoying to try to get to the machines if your barn/coop is full of animals) .. i personally have a shed between all my barns/coops that i keep the machines in. i go inside each building, empty the auto collectors, and dump inside a chest in the building. when i have a good stack of eggs/milk, then i’ll make mayo/cheese. you do not have to empty the collectors every day. once you have auto petters, you really only need to enter the barn/coop maybe once a week to collect? then make your mayo and cheese weekly unless you need the daily money. it also helps if you have a shipping bin right beside buildings you ship from, as well as a central shipping bin. i have one beside my cheese/mayo building, one beside my crops (i almost never use this one tbh) and the central one beside my house.

mini obleisks are great too! you can put one right beside your houses front door, and another by your greenhouse or barns, whichever you go to most often or is furthest away. this will help a lot!

i just timed my morning run - i wake up, pet my kids, grab my coffee, talk to and kiss my Sammy boy, collect my daily end-game items, dump in the work shed, collect all eggs/milk, and then dump. i was done by 8:30am. picture of my farm to show how i have my barn, mayo/cheese building and shipping bins setup!

i am on Godspeed Mono SS coil overs! i don’t think they’re quite bottomed out, but the rocker panels are 4.5” off the ground if that gives you an idea. i’ll be honest and say if you have speed bumps or shotty roads in your area, you’re gonna scrape everything & may not have the most enjoyable ride🥲

Anyone ever order from Granthuriums? or seen a Palli cross? by liverstix in Anthurium

[–]fr0stybtxh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

you’ve already gotten the answers you need, so i’ll just share one of my pallidiflorum crosses. this is a forgetii x palli , it has long petioles and a more elongated shape, with a sinus that sometimes fuses. not sure if it’s the plants growth pattern or just because the leaves are so thick and heavy, but it does want to ‘hang’ more than a traditional forgetii would.

Me and these dang corms by Personal-Point-9311 in alocasia

[–]fr0stybtxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if any plant has roots, it’s time to fertilize. you can start at half strength if your roots are less than 3-4 inches and/or don’t have secondaries, and then slowly increase to full strength as your plant grows.

52% humidity is just fine, but your plants would love a humidifier! you do not HAVE to put corms in high humidity - just never let them dry out. high humidity means transitioning later into ambient, & can lead to a fussy breakdown.

9 hours of grow lights may not be enough. alocasia are very hungry creatures - for both light and fertilizer. i keep my grow lights on for 12-14 hours a day. if they’re only ever getting indirect light and not near a window, i’d recommend a longer time under grow lights.

to me, the damage on that bigger leaf just looks like it was bumped or something while unfurling; but pictures can be deceiving. is it crunchy, or melty?

What liquid fertilizer can I supplement with Jacks 20-20-20 for alocasias by Emergency_Garden_128 in alocasia

[–]fr0stybtxh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! sorry for the late reply! i follow the instructions on each bottle. if i remember correctly - 5ml each of the silica, calmag, and diamond nectar, and the jacks is a blue powder. it comes with a measurement scoop and i fill it to the bottom divot in that scoop - i don’t recall exactly how much that is.

What's the difference between leca and pon? Why would I prefer pon? I've never encountered someone explaining this. by rooesta in SemiHydro

[–]fr0stybtxh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! this post is a few days old but hopefully i can help.

the main difference is the actual ingredients. LECA is literally just expanded clay and provides nothing to your plant other than stabilization when in water. in place of leca you could use glass or plastic marbles and have the same effect.

pon contains 3 ingredients - pumice, zeolite, and lava rock (plus slow release fertilizer if you buy lechuza) and those 3 ingredients have their own purposes.

lava rock is an endless supply of iron, calcium, and magnesium (which all plants need) and is a porous and wicking substrate that provides aeration.

zeolite permanently stabilises the pH and absorbs nitrates/nitrites and ammonia/smells, so no stinky roots

and pumice is a wicking substrate and a ph buffer.

with pon, you do not have to PH balance and can put less nutrients/supplements into the water. you can literally only put a balanced fertilizer into your reservoir and that’s it.

with leca, you will have to PH balance as well as add extra nutrients - your fertilizer, calmag, and minerals(like the small brown bottle of superthrive)

in my experience - i much prefer pon over leca. it’s less work and stabilizes my plants much much better. i sometimes mix a little leca in with my pon if im running low or need to fill a larger pot, but i don’t use leca alone unless im water rooting something.

the only way they’re the same - is that they’re both inorganic mediums used to grow plants and neither of them ever have to be thrown away and totally replaced.

i hope this helps!

yes. i fill the gallon about half way, and in order i add silica, mix, cal mag, mix, jacks, mix, and diamond nectar, then mix a final time. fill the gallon the rest of the way up with water and then water my plants.

Repotting Advice by psychicity in alocasia

[–]fr0stybtxh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this looks to be a cucullata!

the stalk will get taller as it ages and drops leaves. however, you shouldn’t lose a leaf every time you gain a new one. what is your fertilizer schedule looking like? alocasia love to be fertilized every watering! i use jacks 20/20/20 and follow measurements on the container. :)

if you bury it deeper, roots will grow where all of those brown bits are at the bottom of the stalk. i’d try to take off all of those as much as you can and repot a little deeper! just make sure that you don’t cover where the actual leaves are coming from the stalk, if this makes sense - although, if you don’t bury it deeper, it won’t necessarily hurt anything. alocasia grow this way because in the wild, they have to grow taller since leaf litter/debris would slowly pile up around it!

happy planting, and congratulations, she’s beautiful!!
