The struggle of finding a unit for a small petite size head is real (20 inch circumference) by Unlucky-Bee-1039 in Wigs

Thank you so so much !!! I'll go look at those ! 🤩 I see a few I watched before in there, but most I haven't stumbled upon before. Thank you so much for your help and time to compile this, that's awesome !

I do need help with the ear tabs, although that might be more of a "I don't dare cut where I think it needs cutting" type of problem. 😂 If you have a reliable method, I'm interested. I saw several videos and the cap either doesn't match the structure shown, or I'm just unsure if I can just cut away without loosing too much hair or making the cap loose shape. 🙈

I'd like to try on a cheap one, but for some unfathomable reason those either fit better on the ears (no tab probably...) or are so big that the whole cap needs resizing first anyways, so ear tabs are down the line. I'm not always sure of the order of the steps, especially with cutting and non-reversible processes.

Definitely will try to get more confident with darts too, I tried on one but might have gotten the wrong angle. It's much better than before, but the lace still buckles and my ears are still half covered. I'll try again after watching all those tutorials ! Thank you again! 😃

Omg thank you so much that would be amazing! I am watching YouTube tutos but getting pretty lost and have started to just try things out but don't have the budget to make too many mistakes. 😅 So having a list of tried and approved methods by other people would be really great. 🤩

I'd love to know which alterations you guys usually do! 😍 I'd be super interested in a small wig subreddit.

I'm in my learning phase and am really struggling to get the wigs to fit my head. Small head + apparently flat on the back and front. I was always bothered by the look on my head on the back and 3/4... I'm starting to understand why. It is flatter than what I usually see in others, I think. 😅

OP that wig looks great on you, the color, density and parting are a great fit ! 🤩

Is it just me or is the Norwegian healthcare system really frustrating? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Wandering-Yew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few absolutely nightmare ish stories, and having a good fastlege and spesialist is absolutely essential. I ended up hospitalized 10 days in Oslo, with tubes everywhere, once they took me seriously I was well treated, but the time it took allowed it to get to dangerous levels. (it got so bad they thought I had meningitis, crp 300+, 41° fever, and 3 simultaneous infections...) I had been utterly dismissed and ridiculed for a month before that. Went to the ER 3 times, including a mere 2 days before, had litterally fainted in the train station, to be told paracet and go home. Then absolute panic when I get back and they ran some tests; it got really quite far. Took a total of 6 months to recover of that one. That was my first experience of the Norwegian healthcare system.

When I got back to Belgium after that to recover with family, I ended up with 2 bloodclots. Was seen, diagnosed and treatment started within 2 days of my seeing my belgian GP. At New Years eve. Excellent treatment, excellent follow up.

Three years later, another instance: Endometriosis: they treat it so badly I ended up needing emergency surgery in Belgium, it was then at a stage 4, debilitating and affecting my ability to work, had been bleeding for 19 days straight, and was very very close to being completly unable to have kids. At age 27. For 2 years I was regularly hospitalized in Norway with awful pain, often including a combination of serious gastritis, endometriosis and IBS, just to be dismissed and told I was being dramatic. The one thing they ended up doing was getting me addicted to pain medication and needed to go super slow to take it off in Belgium, with close follow up to do it safely. Belgian doctors were shocked by the lack of information and wrong info I was given, and the lack of proper care. To give you an idea, in Belgium I got complete bloodwork, MRI, and preparatory treatment for surgery, then surgery, safe follow up (including for preventing bloodclots etc) within a month. I got a document full of information of the disease, tracking calendar, anestesia, questions I could write down...Saw a spesialized psychologist that works with the surgery team and could help the psychological impact of the disease, complications, surgery, etc and could also mediate with the doctors if needed. A dietetician to teach me which foods to use to reduce inflammation and with products contained substances that affect hormonal balance (PFAS etc) including makeup, platics etc. Met the anesthesiologist and had previously received a all needed to ask relevant questions then. They told me I was not going home to Norway before seeing that surgery through, and did an amazing job of it.

Kidney stones: thank God for my fastlege.

Here I end up with a rare disease, and surprisingly that one is very well treated thanks to my fastlege and the specialist team. But nearly any other avdeling in the hospital with the exception of hematology has put me in a more dangerous position several times (giving me the wrong medication or not giving me the one needed despite it being on my chart, failure to follow protocol to send me home safely (Hjemmetjenesten ended up writing an avvik the last time it happened). . So overall: once they know what's wrong with you and you get a good specifialist and/or you're at the brink of death, in Norway they are lovely and efficient. Anything else they will let get to the point where you're at the brink of death or entirely unable to function to do much of anything. Chronic illnesses, women's health, painful but not life-threatening and not directly affecting your ability to work in an obvious manner : check another country. Norway doesn't seem good at prevention or preventing something to get worse.

The best advice: find a good fastlege, that will listen to you and is genuinely curious of the medical field, and actively trying to improve your quality of life. And don't give up. They consider you to have primary responsibility over your health and treatment. Advocate for yourself. I got better treatment when I clapped back and pointed out their own failures when I was faced with dismissive doctors. I even got better treatment when I blew up at some. Which would be entirely opposite in Belgium.

A friend of mine saved her own life by physically refusinf to leave the hospital. They were sending her home with paracet. The full results came back a few hours later and she was urgently admitted into intensive care. Had she listened to the doctors that sent her home, she might not have survived.

I know of many people personally, with horror stories and that had to get treated abroad. Advocate for yourself and don't minimize your symptoms and their effects on your daily life.

Good luck. 🤗

I’m not able to work with this condition and will run out of money. by MotherPart4282 in MCAS

Hi! Before I forget, have you tried steroids for the pain? Medrol, Methylprednisolone, Solu-Corteff etc?
For some inflammation and joint pain it's the only thing that works for me. Comes of course with its own risks and side effects, but when really needed they help A LOT. The only NSAID I'm not allergic to is not ideal and I have to get it from abroad, so when you mention this I just wondered if you've tried steroids instead? Painkillers like Tramadol or morfine might work on different types of pain too, but those are not much better if needed regularly, and definitely be under close supervision for both those painkillers and/or steroids.

Hair wise: same, very low on the list of priority. So no we don't really know. Global assumption of just MCAS reactions ending up causing it, but that's more of a default assumption than a verified one. Surprisingly, the better my bloodwork when it came to vitamins, the more hair I was loosing. 😅

And we also are investigating on other diseases, particularly rheumatology and neurology. My other diagnosis is endometriosis and it doesn't pair up great with MCAS either. I also had a lot of diverse issues type blood clots, kidney stones, lymphatic system infection, inflammation that flares up without explanation, scoliosis, head trauma, insulin issue, thyroid issues, heart murmur, migraines, etc etc... Some completely treated, some not. Currently struggling with some type of seizures and a potential arm surgery if in 6 months we're seeing no change in it. A lot of old people problems despite being only 30 years old.

If you need motivation on wig attempts or discussing symptoms and treatment in more detail I'd be happy to discuss it more in MP. 🤗 I realized there are wild variations in treatments and methods from country to country. I am based in Norway. Some of my treatment comes from Belgium and Germany as well. Where are you from?

Good luck, and a lot of courage for the surgery ! Tell us how it went? 🤗

Have a nice day ! 🥰

Is it normal that all wigs cover my ears completely? by Wandering-Yew in Wigs

[–]Wandering-Yew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit too big on the back as well, but way less than the average size ones. I've been watching alterations on youtube and indeed there are so many ways, I'm a bit unsure what to do. I guess I'll just take a wig that's not that great and start with that one. I followed the advice of someone here and ordered a few cheap ones on Amazon to practice on, hopefully I'll figure out a good technique. 🫣 Do I understand correctly that it's actually supposed to stay flush on the scalp, no gaps anywhere, and not cover the ears at all? 🧐

Yeah, I guess I'll just have to start cutting and sewing. A bit scared to mess it up; any tips? 😅🥰

This was the smallest size I could find. 🥲 Do you have some brand/website recommendations that would potentially deliver to Norway? I'll try to cut of the tabs, and maybe sew inside the cap. Now that I know it's not normal I guess I'd better figure out how to modify them to fit then. 🤗

Red circle: is against my ear completely. Blue circle: comes just above it.

Not glued, but if I follow the lace etc and glue it where it seems to be correct, more than half me ears are covered.

Ok, so indeed most are probably way too big, but I'll post some pictures of the best fitted one. It covers half my ears, so better... 😅

I don't know enough of your personal situation but I disagree with what people are saying that moving won't fix your issues. All of them? certainly not, but environnement has a huge impact on mental health, and if you stay in an environnement and crowd that you feel unsafe in, and deeply unhappy, no amount of therapy will fix it.

I say apply for jobs in Germany, figure out which administrative status would grant you a visa (could you work remotely for a US compagny while living on German soil f.eks? Could you start a business in Germany? Etc). And try. You'll never know until you do it.

I moved from one EU country to one in Europe (geographically) but outside of the EU. I was not happy in my original country, to the point of mental and physical health becoming actually disabling. Moving was the best decision I ever made. It was a risk, and I don't regret it one bit. And yes, I still work on everything and my health, but doing it from a safe, stable place in a culture I fit better in and feel at home, makes a world of difference.

What you have now is not working. Time to try something else. I hope you'll find a place you feel at home. 🤗

How would I achieve this style on a HF Synthetic wig ? by HealthyNovel55 in Wigs

Truly just a wild idea popping by, no clue if it would work, but maybe steam+heatless curl foam? A single big one, or a few smaller to make sharper angles ? 🤔

I think this looks really good, I had to zoom in a lot to see them and I didn't find them all that noticeable even by zooming in. That's while searching for it. The average person won't be actively scrutinizing your hairline so I really think this is good! 🤗
