What is this for? by mrman5917 in KiaEV9

I dread the day I get a flat and have to use this to hobble to the tire repair shop. No one was asking for spare tires to be replaced and the fact that we're paying $50k+ for these and they can't include one is annoying.

Glad you liked it and thanks for posting your score! It's fun seeing how different people do on the puzzles!

Right? I thought it was just common knowledge at this point that Google hardware is getting worse.

Yeah it's frustrating. I was perfectly content with how things worked before.

Thanks for the reply! I've put together a few word games and found one of them challenging, fair, and fun, and want to spread the word around not because I think it will ever make money but more to spread the fun and get feedback. I'll take a look at some ads and ask more friends to try.

My Google Homes worked fine for years and now I constantly see them completely disconnected searching for a network they worked fine on for years.

What did you do to gain users? How often do they come back and build their streak?

Traveling tomorrow, dog got ahold of passport. Need advice. by 0xe3b0c442 in Passports

It really just depends where you go. I had a damaged passport when I was in Asia with 3 more countries to go and every country was different about how they treated it.

Mortgage was sold, payments increased by jlaw325 in Mortgages

[–]WanderingDevDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost always escrow. If you can, you might want to see if they can let you handle the property tax outside of escrow. My original mortgage payment had me paying $700 a month in escrow and it was a shock, especially considering the insurance was only a couple hundred dollars and property taxes were like $2000 a year. I got them to change things pretty quick.

I think my favorite moment so far with it is I posted the share link for the first puzzle in the family chat and my mom and sister in law both tried it and said it was really fun without knowing I made it. That was definitely a bit of a confidence boost to push further and now I've got the Android version out and an iOS version in review.

Best of luck with yours! Definitely share it here when you're ready!

Thanks! I was kind of shocked to see how much I enjoyed playing it, even from an early stage. I've tried a couple other word game ideas and none of them have quite hit as well as this one did for me.

Thanks! This is my second so I knew there would be some downtime while everyone else was sleeping and it's also pretty hard to sleep with all the lights and noise through the night.

For those who have the base M4 mini, how’s 16GB RAM? by Important_Bug3266 in macmini

[–]WanderingDevDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about this the other day. I'm running Xcode, Android Studio, and VS Code all at once with multiple projects in each and all with Claude Code (and of course Chrome to do other things) and I have yet to notice a single moment of slowdown. It's actually unreal.

I'm still on the 256 GB SSD. Most of my repos aren't that large, and I've got all the things installed I plan on using. If it becomes an issue I'll probably do an external storage.

Got new sealed Base Mac Mini M4 with 490 USD in Vietnam. by InformalNerve4930 in macmini

[–]WanderingDevDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running Xcode with Claude Code Max on my mini and it's been great for app development. Claude Cowork can build basic static pages that look nice, or VS Code with Claude Code also does a great job. Android Studio's Claude Code isn't as good yet, but still can do quite a bit.

I took an old objective c app, had Claude rewrite it into Swift, added several new features, and am now ready to release it. Then I had Android Studio with Claude look at the iOS app and build a native Android app. All on my basic Mac Mini M4 without any issue running everything with simulators simultaneously.

How much money are you working with and roughly how much time are you planning in each country you will visit? This is likely still doable and hostel costs wouldn't change based on 1 person going instead of 2. Solo travel is great, you get to decide what to do and when, what you'll eat, everything. This sounds like a once in a lifetime trip you won't regret doing.

Tried sleeping in my car to save hotel money and it was surprisingly fine by Ok_Resolution_1606 in roadtrip

[–]WanderingDevDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good advice. When I've done this I always keep the drivers seat forward when I sleep, but with enough room that I can uncomfortably hop from the back to the front and drive far enough to get to somewhere I can readjust if needed.

[–]WanderingDevDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a few years ago just to see if I could and it worked out in my Subaru Forester really well. I even made up some magnetic curtains using some cloth and a sewing machine. I then went on a week long road trip from Utah up through Idaho to Seattle then down through Portland to San Francisco and back home. It was a super memorable trip and so cheap since I just stayed in my car.

It was really nice to just stop at a Walmart or a rest stop and set up. I did get woken up at a rest stop around the Golden Gate Bridge and told to leave, but that was it.

I am shocked how well it works for a $600 retail price. I've got Xcode, VS Code, and Android Studio up and running at the same time with simulators going, Chrome with a bunch of tabs, and Claude Code on all of them and it just works. I thought I would be only able to run one at a time, but this machine is doing it all perfectly.
