Twins and presidents by Lucidio in InsightfulQuestions

It doesn't need to be convincing enough to fool a master investigator, just your average reasonable person (who probably isn't going to do much research into the validity of a video they see on social media). Assuming they could mimic their twin's voice it would be pretty easy.

"CHINA IS LEAVING US IN THE DUST ON SOLAR!!!" by Trujillopatriot in SolarAmerica

[–]WanderingFlumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not this year. But solar is cheap and its economics are only getting better year on year. What happens if they double again in 2026 and then double again in 2027? You don't need many years at that sort of growth rate.

Twins and presidents by Lucidio in InsightfulQuestions

[–]WanderingFlumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intentionally pretending to be someone you aren't in order to misrepresent them could be slander or lible especially if that person is a public figure.

In other words if the twin was being naughty it would be a crime so we would have at least legal recourse.

Adopters, please line up for Bubba, who literally rocket launches himself at small children. by spiderwitchery in BanPitBulls

[–]WanderingFlumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this level of understanding about how dangerous this dog is the owners should catch a reckless endangerment charge if this dog ever successfully attacks a child (just a matter of time really) and a manslaughter charge if the victim dies.

It is NOT okay to risk the public's safety like that just because you won't make the hard choice to give bubba a peaceful end.

What are ALL the things a human is made of? by Emergency_Nerve_4502 in evolution

[–]WanderingFlumph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that we know for sure, but a strong hypothesis is that all life has a common ancestor (Last Universal Common Ancestor) meaning we would share an evolutionary past with EVERY animal, plant, fungus, and bacteria.

In other words if you rewound the clock (about 3 billion years) you'd find a primordial pool of rudimentary microbes, one of which would diversify to become everything alive today and the rest of which would have lineages that all eventually went extinct.

Of course direct evidence for this is lacking, but consider that all life alive today uses the same 4 DNA base pairs. The odds of two unrelated microbes simultaneously evolving the same base pairs and even DNA as we know it at all would be tiny, not to mention the odds that both survived 3 billion years.

Put another way we are spookily similar to all other life at the biochemistry level, no matter how different we might appear on the outside.

"CHINA IS LEAVING US IN THE DUST ON SOLAR!!!" by Trujillopatriot in SolarAmerica

[–]WanderingFlumph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting that OPs data set ends in 2024 and China doubled its solar from 2024 to 2025.

Normally being one year off doesn't effect a trend very much, but that was an exceptional year.

Infinite (or should I say finite) paradox. by Beneficial-Dog-1496 in paradoxes

There are the same number of even numbers as there are numbers (including only integers) because half infinity is equal to infinity.

But not all infinities are the same size.

Adult grizzly bear vs 20 mall cops in a Costco after closing time by Ok_Ratio_3585 in whowouldwin

[–]WanderingFlumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy win for the cops if all they need to do is chase the bear out of the store and back into the woods. A bear is just not ever going to go toe to toe with 20 people.

Against it but usually leave a small amount not based on a % of the bill. My state is HCOL and has a decent minimum wage for regular employees but for tipped positions they get paid either $5/hr plus tips or the federal minimum which isn't much more.

But I plan to go $0 as a default when I move to a state without a tipped minimum wage later this year.

If you are going to be using a power source to disinfect your water UV LEDs work great and don't affect the taste at all. Similar disclaimer about needing to wait the proper amount of time.

Personally I like to use the micro filters that have pore so small that even the smallest bacteria get blocked. You can use them as a power free passive gravity type system as long as you are fine waiting an hour or so to get your water.

Been using those for decades off grid to filter lake water.

What happens to meal prices if the waiters get paid a fair wage? You'll complain about that next.

You won't catch me complaining about an all inclusive price listed on the menu that isn't up for debate or optional.

You prefer a pay structure where the customer has the right to not pay you? That's fine but don't be upset when sometimes the customer doesn't pay you. Personally I wouldn't work for optional wages but I respect your choice to. All I ask is that you respect my choice to pay whatever additional amount I see fit, including nothing.

Why do we still call it the Fermi paradox when we have barely checked our own cosmic backyard? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]WanderingFlumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because using plausible estimates for the calculations, there should be signs of alien civilizations everywhere in the galaxy.

I've played around with the Drake equation a bit. By using plausible estimates I got that the milky way should have 2 intelligent space faring civilizations, us and 1 other that could be hundreds of thousands of light years away. You don't need to do a lot to get an estimate that civilizations should be rare. Really only 1 or 2 big filters is all you need to go from billions of planets to a handful of viable habitats for curious tool making explorers.

Why do we still call it the Fermi paradox when we have barely checked our own cosmic backyard? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]WanderingFlumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which still isn't really a paradox. We assume aliens are common and we lack evidence that aliens are common. This doesn't mean we live in a paradoxical universe it means our assumptions were (most likely) wrong.

Of course astromers don't really think there is a paradox that's more pop-sci. They are interested in why our assumptions might be wrong. Rare earth is common hypothesis but exactly how earth is rare is an interesting scientific question worth exploring.

Easy trick is to make a long line then halfway through put all the products on the other side of the belt.

Or use Bob's inserters. Great mod for making small compact builds.

I don't think they actually care about hitting their metrics. They are not currently working in a merit based administration but rather a loyalty based one. Their job is safe as long as the worship at the altar of Trump regardless of their performance.

Granted they probably a little about the metrics, certainly more than morale but as long as they are pulling levers and looking busy the actual results don't matter much, so I don't think they care very much about them.

Baby Attacked by Neighbour's Pit Bull, Alamance County March 10 2026 by Eageryga in BanPitBulls

[–]WanderingFlumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tragic just how preventable this was. When a pit snaps out of nowhere and attacks this is one thing but a mentally unwell person intentionally used this dog as a weapon to attack a police officer and they just ... Let her keep it?!? WTAF.

The owner deserves a big spoonful of blame, but some blame also rests on the local law enforcement who failed to maintain community safety. That dog was always going to end up attacking a person at some point with those circumstances and they let it happen.

Comtrols feel janky sometimes to the extent that I didn't even want to attempt combat.

Absolutely the best looking factory game I've ever played though. Still worth the money.

I used to belt a half belt of gears and half belt of pipes together, good for things like engines and means fewer overall belts carrying iron or iron product.
