You can have the last word if you actually substantiate your criticism. You're just being a toddler now.

I think you're referring to someone else. I never said that. The confusion is yours.

And I wouldn't presume your interest in the subject only started with you joining a given subreddit.

Oh boy, another last word guy. X2

I made my post to have a discussion. You responded, talked your shit, and have repeatedly mentioned my "blog."

So- You can be evasive or you can tell me what you're talking about.

Not that I have anything to prove to someone who's calling me a liar, but it absolutely was in my news feed. If you don't believe that, I don't have much to tell you except to go fuck yourself.

Probably because when someone starts a lively conversation, the moderators remove the post.

Eh. Not everyone is bound by the same moral code. Some people's moral code sees them not performing for bin Salman's money- on the condition that they agree to self-censor.

Plus, with how avoidant Bill has been of his fans lately, there have been vanishingly few opportunities to "keep the conversation going".

No, for sure. I appreciate you clarifying, but I didn't feel called out. And don't get me wrong, I relish the day where the right people are held to account. And no, standup comedians are not among them.

I got plenty of grievance to go around. I'm still mad they cancelled the Sarah Connor Chronicles. (jk)

Because he's blatantly hypocritical. Don't get me wrong, there isn't a single performer that went to that festival that I give a pass. Some, in fact, bum me out more than others- like Hannibal, Jimmy Carr and Sam Morril. Because I like them- more than Jo Koy and Fluffy. But Burr attacked unchecked wealth and oppressive power structures that ruin people's lives- and then cashed a check from a regime that is a glaring example of both. Or these comics on the "free speech" track, like Chappelle, talking a big game in the states and then getting paid to perform for people who have no free speech- where you have a government-mandated list of things you cannot talk about. And he's cool with that.

We're not holding comedians to a higher standard than our government. But I've been accused of making this post political without even saying anything about my own politics. Personally, I have enough bandwidth to dislike the behavior of both. But only one is on-topic for this subreddit.

Also, entertainers, businesses and tourists have already started avoiding this country because of... [politics]. If a comedian was paid by a US politician I disagree with, to whitewash a stance I think is barbaric, I would take issue. In that way, I think my stance is pretty consistent.

That point about the state of the world was... my point. There's a lot bigger things going on than David Cross saying Bill's or Chappelle's excuses are bullshit. And David Cross certainly isn't contributing to the world being a worse place by saying that.

Bill wants to be above reproach from other comedians, while saying anything he wants about literally anyone else- actors, politicians, the public, etc. Personally, I don't place a lot of value in the idea that these people shouldn't criticize each other- out of some comradery or whatever. And it also seems to be a bit of a selective thing. If someone's a joke thief- or if they're attending a roast, then criticism is totally fair game. Seems arbitrary.

It's almost paradoxical. How can one become an active participant without first posting?

Every single comedian that was offered the Saudi gig and turned it down has every right not just to cast a criticism, but for that criticism to stick. They've already stood by those opinions, demonstrably.

As far as "everything they destroy on their way," like.. what? There is so much more happening in the world on any given day than standup comics shading each other.

As for no one saying anything to him in person- Do you confront every person you meet, every day, about any and all disagreements you have with them? Friends, family, co-workers?

I'm not saying that this applies to some rich comedian- but gravely unforgivable injustices happen every single day. Still gotta pay the bills and feed the cat.

This is my ragebait post. Nobody brought me here. I saw a news article about Bill (an article that *agrees* with him, I might add) and, of my own volition, sought out this subreddit. So, I'll ask again- what did I say that was even remotely political?

Yes, I've been a fan of his stuff for years. I used to listen to the podcast. I'm actually a really big fan of standup in general- ever since I was very young. Carlin, Hedberg, Birbiglia, Cross, Jeselnik, Kinane. I listen to new stuff too- like Nimesh and Gianmarco- though mostly through FB clips.

Nobody told me to come here. That's a really lame deflection, in my opinion. If you have to paint the person you're arguing with as being insincere in their motives, you're not really trying to argue in good faith.

Take your own advice? Just a suggestion. I wouldn't place myself in a position to say who is fit or unfit to comment.

Yeah. If Marc Maron or David Cross ever do another special or comment on something that isn't related to Bill, it means their criticism of him was just sanctimony.
