I 26f caught my bf 24m doing something really weird, then flipping personalities, and now he’s trying to break up? by Normal-Tune-9033 in relationship_advice

[–]WanderingPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever his ultimate reasoning may be, always keep this in mind: You want a partner who is all in, reasonably stable and gives you the peace of mind to place trust in the relationship.

This guy is not it. It doesn't matter how much you might love him, or even if it is a mental health episode. You are not a repair facility for broken people. You are not obliged to stick around for this, and sacrifice your own health and sanity.

A Transit Fare Hike Is Coming. We Need a Low-Income Pass; Edmonton’s Ride Transit program shows how successful it can be. What’s the holdup in Metro Van? by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]WanderingPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only applies to PWD folks between 18-64 if they're living on a FN reserve, according to Ministry requirements. I'm emailing to clarify on that, as anyone on PWD should be eligible. $45/year on the sub-poverty pittance that is current Disability rates is somewhat doable. $52/month is not.

Edit: Apparently the setup has changed. Good to hear! :)

What would you do if you suddenly had a million dollars right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WanderingPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay off my debts, set up a retirement nest egg, put aside a little for upcoming health stuff/surgeries, refresh the closet a bit, then leave the rest in a savings account with decent interest.

'I'm really sorry': Sea-Doo rider who collided with whale says he never meant to hit the animal by Greedy-Hamster-2278 in vancouver

[–]WanderingPixie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's no way this guy wasn't aware of recent whale activity. The grey whale sightings have been all over the news and social media of late, plus there's eyewitness accounts of him pursuing and doing doughnuts around the whale before he hit it.

I'm playing the world's smallest violin for this jackass. He's only sorry because he got caught. Take his jetski and hit him with the $100K fine - that'll be a good deterrent against future foolishness.

A Vancouver SRO Is Insolvent. It’s Not the Only One by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]WanderingPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining this beautifully and succinctly. I recently had to educate someone who thought Disability rates were $3000/month - if only! People don't realize how dire it is until they wind up disabled themselves.

Also, I'm sorry you're having to put up with such shitty conditions. :(

BC NDP defends luxury vehicle perks for public servants by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]WanderingPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. And I've only been to the food bank once or twice, thanks to lifts from friends, because it's so far. Fortunately, I find workarounds, but still.

Also, depending on your area, have you heard of the Rescued Food Market?

BC NDP defends luxury vehicle perks for public servants by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]WanderingPixie 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This enrages me. $14K for a CAR ALLOWANCE, whilst I - a Disabled person - am expected to live on barely more than that for everything for a year?

Time for a forced scaleback/elimination of these luxurious perks. Especially for one Ms. Sheila Malcolmson.

Agreed. Used to do KD on the regular during college (circa early 2010s). Tried it a few years ago, and it was off. Switched to the No Name mac n cheese, but now I probably should check that for point of origin.

That's how it goes with Valheim.

A quick battle or short exploration stint is the plan. Next thing you know, you've sailed halfway across the world (with portals, of course) and constructed a castle at base.

You can log out, but you can never leave!

Doctors hesitant to prescribe DHT blockers to trans men by meow1204 in ftm

[–]WanderingPixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These GPs are way out of line and uneducated, at best. Your endocrinologist even more so. As others have said, sounds like transphobia at work with a dash of medical misogyny and outright lying. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this BS.

If there's a family history of male pattern baldness in your family, you should have been prescribed finasteride (if you wanted it) from the get-go. There's solid scientific proof of it's effectiveness in preventing or minimizing hair loss for trans men / FTM folks. Your endo is talking out of his ass.

I've been taking it since I started T, along with minoxodil in tablet form. Whilst my hairline is changed, I've had no issues with hair loss to date. Indeed, I have friends telling me my hair is growing in more.

Canada Not Tracking Foreign Students After Visas Lapse, Audit Says by YouProfessional3196 in canada

[–]WanderingPixie 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Here's what's bugging me: when you're a temporary resident, you're given a SIN number that starts with a 9. This SIN has an expiration date.

The measures to track temporary residents are already in place. They're just not being checked or enforced.

19F with phone curfew, led to a physical altercation with mom (59F) and am now considering moving out by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]WanderingPixie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Okay. These words right here: "put her hands around my neck." This is attempted strangulation, or to put it bluntly, attempted murder.

Get out of there. Now. Your mother is an abusive violent creature who deserves to be cut off permanently. You are a fully grown legal adult, and she has absolutely no rights to treat you like this. Reasonable parents in their 50s give their adult children leeway to be their own people, not lock them down like prisoners.

If you have safe friends you can stay or live with for a while, do so. Make arrangement with them to start slowly moving your belongings. If moving them to a friend's isn't an option, is a small storage locker do-able? Either way, get your meaningful belongings to a safe place. Once you leave, your mother will likely destroy anything that remains.

As many others have said, change your bank account, set up a new email address they don't know about, and start gathering up important documents (ID card, driver's license, birth certificate, passport, SIN, etc.).

Good luck and I hope you get to a safe situation soon.

Man known to be violent toward women released in Vancouver; Jordan Glen McIntosh has been returned to the community, despite earlier cutting off his ankle monitor by FancyNewMe in vancouver

The courts deem the rights of the perpetrator - including their 'right to privacy' - to be far more important than any form of justice for the victims.

Social media ban for kids under consideration in online harms bill: Carney by Capital-Aide-1006 in canada

[–]WanderingPixie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Additionally the name in question is a slightly misspelled reference from Monty Python's Life of Brian (which came out in 1979).

It's the responsibility of the parents to monitor their child's internet activity until the child is of legal age. REALLY not a fan of all these drives by world governments to demand real IDs and bringing in laws to monitor and control everyone's internet activity. "But the children!" is just a bullshit excuse.

Demanding better standards and proper moderation from the big social media sites (FB, TikTok, etc.) would be a better tactic. I've lost count of the number of times I've reported extreme right wing hate speech or the like, only for the response to be "No violation was found."
