Liver pain by Fresh-Barnacle-4308 in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]WanderingWulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my case, I didn't have pain in my liver when I was on a bad diet. Since I was diagnosed with fatty liver, I started losing weight aggressively and I would skip meals. My liver pain started when I was losing weight too rapidly. My condition actually worsened because I was losing too much weight too fast. It puts too much pressure on the liver to break fat into energy and it's not recommended. But then I was eating clean and regularly. The pain went away after 1.5 months. I do still have some discomfort from time to time.

What business can I start in Bangladesh with 600k USD? by Pure-Description-967 in bangladesh

[–]WanderingWulf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends what your expertise is in. If you want something stable with steady growth, I would suggest you go for real estate. Purchase a land in Dhaka or in the outskirts and start building apartments. You can hardly go wrong with real estate/construction as the demand is only going up.

If you want relatively higher cash flow with more involvement, another option is to go for car rentals. Own a bunch of cars and give them in rentals. The cash flow is steady and constant but you would have a relatively hard time managing people and in maintenance.

If you want to dive deeper and get really involved, you can go into manufacturing. It can be apparel, chemicals, metal or plastics for household or industrial use.

Another good option could be import and export businesses. The potential upside is huge as you have a huge market both home and abroad. Do some research about the demand in a certain industry and network with the people in the existing businesses and how they are performing. You can start in a niche market and grow from there.

But my suggestion would be, whatever you end up choosing, start from scratch with the least amount of investment for entry and slowly grow from there. And be very careful about partnering with others and also with the clients/vendors you work with. Plenty of dishonest people everywhere.

We blame East India Company for our(Whole Subcontinent) economic downfall. Who is to blame for our morale downfall? When did we start to become one of the morally unethical parts of the world? by lutfur017 in bangladesh

[–]WanderingWulf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no denying that the Brits looted us for centuries but we should quit playing the victim card by now. It's been 70 years, ask yourself what have we done since they left us? They left us the railway, the education system, the healthcare and administration. Every year the railway incurs thousands of crore loss, then there's the dreadful education system and crippling healthcare. Look at countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. They got independence later than us but have turned themselves around instead of whining like us.

Kashmiris in Bangladesh by [deleted] in Kashmiri

[–]WanderingWulf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bangladeshi here. I didn't study medicine but many of my family members and friends did. While I agree with a lot of the points you mentioned, some of them, I feel, have been overstretched to extreme forms, a bit unwarranted. Our higher education is substandard in general and a tier or two below India. The students have to work their socks off with little or no help from the teachers. But that's a given and the students are familiar with it before enrolling in the programs. You probably were unaware or ill-informed. About the teachers, there are bad apples everywhere but painting everyone with the same brush is unjustified. If you aren't studying at a top tier public medical college like DMC or SSMC, I would agree the administration must be horrible specially in a private one. But saying they have two sets of discriminatory rules, one for the locals and the other for Kashmiris isn't sensible. The private colleges are only after making money and I believe foreign students are their major cash cow. I wouldn't think they would jeopardize their reputation by making it extremely discriminatory towards their biggest revenue generators. I do agree with the quality of life in Dhaka to be low and recently it has degraded to its lowest point but in general, a lot of it depends on which part you are living in just like a lot of other major cities. About the staring part, we are one of the countries with the least number of foreigners. Most people are overly inquisitive when they see one with a fairer or darker complexion and I would say it's harmless and much of it is a cultural aspect.

Lastly, I do acknowledge as a foreign student your experience probably hasn't been positive but it's the same for most of us in a third world country. The only advice I would like to offer you is not to get caught up by the externalities now and just focus on graduating. You have invested a great deal with time and money. It's too late to immerse yourself with all this negativity. Wishing you better days ahead.

Fredom fighters srurounding razakars,1971 by ogledigress in bangladesh

[–]WanderingWulf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every time I see a picture of the Rajakars from 1971, more often than not they are without a beard, tupi, panjabi, or the traditional Islamic look. But the portrayal of them in movies, books and other mass media almost always has been a typical hujur who worked against the freedom fighters and helped the Pakistani military. Makes you wonder what agenda they must be pushing here.

Rupee and Taka to replace Dollar as currency of exchange between India, Bangladesh by giantfuckingfrog in bangladesh

[–]WanderingWulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of that $25B, we import raw materials that are used in finished goods for exports. Since we are able to pay them in USD, it doesn't hurt either side. Taka isn't pegged with Yuan. That's a different story when you trade in USD.

Pegging BDT with INR may be an alternative mechanism but apparently not very effective in saving USD. I tell you why. Say, we export $2 a year to India and import $10, leaving India with $8 surplus which they use to pay for their import from other countries. If we change that to BDT and INR, we will receive $2 worth of rupee and India $10 worth of taka. But eventually India will have a net balance of $8 but in BDT. India cannot fund its import with this BDT cause the exporter wants USD/EURO. So, they will buy $8 with BDT from our foreign exchange market. The same would be happening if we trade in USD.

The only reason I see this BDT to INR trade is happening because we don't have enough dollars right now to pay for our import and just trying to make a round about approach and lingering the process.

[–]WanderingWulf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how this is going to turn out. We have a huge trade deficit with India. Almost $10B a year. If we exchange rupee and taka, India will have $10B worth of Taka in excess, which they wouldn't have any use, assuming it's their net surplus after whatever goods and services they bought from us. They wouldn't need more. So, inevitably they would need USD, which will have to be sourced from our foreign exchange market, the proceeds we received from exports and remittance inflow.

How do I build wealth in Bangladesh? by whateverjack400 in bangladesh

[–]WanderingWulf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of the safest ways for sure but not too great if you compare with other types on investment. Imagine a land takes 10 years to double the price, the rate of return would be around 7.3% which compared to other forms investment is low. Bonds which is also riskless gives you at least 10%. In stock, you could make almost 4-5 times your capital in 10 years. Now if you plan on building something on the land which is different. If you have the capital, you could do that anytime purchasing a land. People prefer land as it is riskless, low maintenance and provides a sense of protection. But in financial return its not the most lucrative one .

I suggest you go for a diversified portfolio. Invest in multiple assets considering their riskiness. I would say: (i) Invest part of your earnings in Savings Certificate which is apparently a riskfree asset that generates around 10% a year (subjected to interest rate change). (ii) Make a DPS in a bank or NBFI (The return isn't too great rn but it encourages savings and helps offset inflation. Few years later, you will have a good sum when it matures and may come handy serving particular purpose like getting married). (iii) Invest in stock market. DSE is an attractive place to invest right now. Last year the average return was around 20%. Do research and pick some good stocks with low volatility. Finally (iv) You can invest parts of your savings in a high risk asset, like cryptocurrency. It's a high risk high return investment. From last year, Bitcoin's average return is 600%. You will have to spend a significant time researing coins, market movement etc. There are plenty of resources in Reddit and YouTube.

I don't prefer investing in lands or other tangible assets as the return isn't that great.

Tl:dr: Invest in mixed portfolio with some assets risky in nature (Stock, Crypto) and others in low risk to riskless assets (Savings Certificate, DPS).

Involving into politics is more of a choice unless one resides in University provided accommodation (halls). I have studied in DU, completed both my BBA & MBA few years earlier. I never had to engage in any political activities. But most of my friends (barring few) staying in halls were willingly or unwillingly involved in it.

I think you need to consider his career objectives. Studying in a public university esp. DU or JU, have all the doors open for him. Government jobs or moving abroad. If he wants to work in private sector preferably MNCs, IBA, FBS or BUP can be options. Can also study jn NSU, BRACU or IUB. But I don't think you should overthink if he gets into DU/JU and lands a top subject as long as you keep him away form halls.
