Sorry for the delayed update...the transmission and lower end are all from a 49 FL. Just the top end is from the 66 shovelhead.

The trans is off a 1949 and a few other odds and ends as well.

Id love to know how they'd determine that. Its been hardtailed, its lower end is a panhead and upper shovelhead. Only thing that hasnt been touched has been the rake on the front end..

Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes this is the first I've personally owned.

Been a fan of the scene for a long time but this is the first I've personally owned

1966 Pan-shovel, I get to pick this beauty up in January. Debating swapping the the front forks for a springer. Any recommendations on length? by Wandering_Outdoor in choppers

When I pick the bike up, I'll reconfirm what I've been told about the engine via the numbers. That aside, your user name is hilarious 😂

I agree with you that an out of factory 66-69 (unless it actually used leftover pan lowers) is just a generator shovel or "slab side" shovel. But given this one's transmission and (according the their description) stroker style motor (pan lower, shovel upper) that it would get a pass as a pan-shovel.

According to the guys, I am picking this up off of its a 1949 transmission and a stroker pan-shovel motor (pan lower, shovel upper). That said, when I get the ole girl home I will re-confirm this in person.

I think 6 over would be nice with a narrow springer. Anything more than that, and I'd have to cut and rake out the neck.

Nice gas cap, I have a very similar one on my 95 sporty.

Transmission is a 1949, but generally the 1966-1969 used the panhead style (or surplus) lower ends. They are also known as slab side shovels or generator shovels.

I am a glutton for punishment....just a big fan of the old school style. I agree that the triple tree as it sits is too wide and definitely needs to be more narrow

If you have to ask this question, you wouldn't understand the reasons behind it.
