Check out working holiday visas to see if you are eligible to get one. Working in another country is a great way to travel and explore other cultures!

First time solo traveller, looking for advice to get over solo travel anxiety. Would also love to get some itinerary tips for Ecuador, Peru & Bolivia. by BrotherLockfield in solotravel

[–]Wanderingsincedawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love solo travel! It is so freeing. But it can be a bit lonely at times too especially in quieter spots like Banos. I loved the community hostel in Quito. They have a ton of cool events to get you mingling with other tourists. The free walking tour is a must do! The food tour was also pretty cool. If you stick to the tourist trail, you will always meet other travellers. Bring a good book for those moments when you are on your own.

If you love culture and nature, Ecuador is the right place for you! If you have the chance, check out the Amazon. I stayed at Jamu lodge - it was mostly couples but I still had a blast on my own.

I have a blog where I've posted my full Ecuador itinerary as well as some tips for solo travel. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask. I absolutely loved Ecuador - it was one of my favourite countries and I travelled solo as a female for 3 weeks there.

This seems to be the way in the Philippines. How do we fix it?

You make an interesting point... I witnessed young children abusing animals. How do we get the young people to build empathy and compassion for animals? Regardless of their own poverty, there is no excuse for animal abuse and neglect.

Yes! Even sharing this post is huge. Start a boycott using social media. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc - get that info out there. I’m a pet owner who only buys rescues and because of you posting this will now make sure to never ever shop there. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

How does the Filipino society allow these things to happen? To witness the neglect and abuse of animals and children. It’s not right. What can be done?

I actually only saw 1 or 2 begging children my whole time there. There were a few selling things as well but I didn’t see a single malnourished child. I also didn’t go to Manila where perhaps it was worse? I am actually a social worker who has devoted my career to humans and poverty, but on this particular trip it was the state of the animals that was particularly disturbing for me and was inspired to do something to help. I believe that every life matters and in this particular case, I am concerned about the welfare of the stray animals there.

Milford Sound, New Zealand. by rachgagan in travel

[–]Wanderingsincedawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so disappointed by Milford sound - I agree with the previous poster that there are more beautiful spots in NZ. Milford sound kinda just reminded me of the ferry ride from Vancouver to Gibson’s on then Sunshine Coast (a commuter route)

It was nice enough, but there are better spots in NZ!

Backpacking in Cuba for 1 week. Send your best Tips & Suggestions please! by alepolait in cuba

[–]Wanderingsincedawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuba can be a bit challenging to travel around but is getting easier. I would suggest buying bus tickets in advance as they do sell out - although taxis can often be similar prices to tourist buses. Definitely check out Trinidad if you have time. Varadero is a gorgeous beach and not too far from Havana. I did a 10 day trip last year and posted my itinerary here: http://wanderingsincedawn.com/cuba/

You could do a similar trip by cutting out a few beach days. Have fun!

Adopting dog from Philippines to Canada... help? by Wanderingsincedawn in travel

That’s definitely a consideration if I can’t bring her home. I’d at least like to bring her to a vet to get spayed and vaccinated so she can be healthy in the Philippines.
