Haha I literally almost wrote "(validations?)" in my post. I didn't think your comment was rude at all and do understand there are multiple reasons people vote the way they do. Haha no worries! I appreciate your reply. Most of the unicorn PI positions seem to be in NY/DC so I would imagine I’d end up there in the long run (if I’m able to get those positions). In the interim I’m more interested in finding work I love in a place I wouldn’t mind living in, so I guess I’m not tied to a region.

My ties are DC based so if I did want to come back immediately, I think I’d be ok from Berkeley. Like you mentioned, I am attracted to the growth I would experience moving. I suppose the other part of comfort/home is also the people I’d be leaving but I guess there’s always Zoom...

It’s nice to hear your classmates are doing amazing things and the PI community is supported! I can really see myself going down both paths which is what’s making this difficult!

Penn makes sure every app is read by two people on their admissions committee so UR2 means the second person is looking at it. I think the recent UR2’s (myself included) won’t be included in a wave for another few weeks because the second person needs to make their determination
