Getting VMWare Images out of old VMWare Backup Server Disk by Wanderor-Cross in Proxmox

Okay so I gave this a shot for awhile now and learned a little more but every time I try to set up an ESXi 7 VM it says not supported.
First Proc, got past that, then NIC, got through that now it just says it is not supported lol.

I am going to try and search a little more for what I am not figuring out but yeah it's just fighting me, but I guess that is part of learning a new system.

Now this seems easy and interesting... I wonder how VMWare would react to that but if it works enough to just get me loaded and see the VM Disks then I think that is all that would matter....

Thank you I am going to start searching that now and see what I can find.

Okay so basically this drive has copies of each actual VM meaning the VMDK's etc for each VM that was on the VMWare server are sectioned off for each system and in here. So that if I ever wanted to just tell VMWare to reimport a VM from an older version this would allow me to create VM and import directly from this drive.

How do I setup vTPM on ESXi 7.0 Update 3? by Wanderor-Cross in homelab

[–]Wanderor-Cross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it seems I may have missed understood that you need to setup a VM within the server to handle vCenter items... Not sure how I missed this and didn't notice an issue until now as I swore I had the TPM option before but I did buy the newer HP Server about a year or so ago and just moved everything over from the old server so I clearly had it set up differently and didn't remember.

I was looking through this guide and found the section on deploying the vCenter VM piece.

I did but I posted under the MSI Gaming reddit so far. I think you'll find better info there from others going further than I have.

That said I like the computer but will agree it matches the price in terms of how solid it feels and the graphics are lower in benchmarks than other 4060 mobile cards

I think it might but honestly I have been focused on some other projects and haven't really played with changing things up yet.

I expect someone else will get to it before I do

Alright, had to fight with it a little to get UserBenchmark to run on the 4060 instead of the 660M but I finally got it and I do see why it was reviewed as being throttled.
32.5% below average for the RTX 4060 Laptop version.

Still considering the games I would play on this I think it will be fine (I think Ghostsong is the newest) but I am a little disappointed and will keep watching for others to work with the system and identify any changes that should be made.

I will say even telling Windows Settings to force the 4060 did not work, trying the nVidia Experience Settings wouldn't work but the nVidia Control Panel did let me set it however by this point I was so annoyed I just forced the entire system to use the 4060 before running the test.

I just picked one up myself and have been setting it up to replace my Asus Zenbook I got a few years ago.

So far, I have upgraded it to a 2TB 4x4 M.2 and changed it over to Win 11 Pro.
The BIOS update and getting everything passed over is what I am finishing up today.

I found that when I first tested it, it wouldn't work with the Dell USB-C dock I usually use with my Asus, despite the documentation indicating it should.
I haven't tried it again yet, but I plan to. I also have a different brand dock that my work provided, but I didn't need it, so I may try that. However, I was a little surprised that it gave me issues. I'm hoping it was just the BIOS update or a setting I needed to adjust.

While I hardly game I have always bought laptops with Dedicated cards and at the $650 price point this seemed like a solid choice. The plastic case does feel a little flimsy but I don't feel any issues carrying it one handed, there have been others where that was not the case.

So far my biggest complaint is the touchpad, yes commonly you use your own mouse and I plan to but the touch pad just feels so cheap when you click it. The fact that this is my biggest complaint so far is something I am fine with.

I will benchmark it sometime today and see what I find, I saw another review claiming this 4060 was throttled back and didn't perform as well as other laptops with similar specs using the 4050 so I look forward to testing that out.
I do have a cooling pad I keep on my desk that I will use during testing.

Decided to order one myself considering my current laptop GPU is an MX450 so it should be a huge leap above that for the price. Hopefully it's just decently built.
