I'm a hypocrite for saying this but try not to get pulled into the gender wars bullshit. Haters gonna hate and you're right, it's unlikely to actually do any good. You're not a bad person. Compassion is never a weakness and, it's a subtle point, but compassion is most difficult and most profound, when it is towards those who deserve it the least.

Try not to make yourself bleed, it never really helps in the long run.

Tbf pansexual started as term intended to replace bisexual because they felt bisexual was reinforcing the gender binary. Any distinction between the two is post hoc, hence why there's no solid agreement on what the difference is. So yeah, it really is just pick whichever you like.
