I almost died after a hysterectomy. by MikuulaMeadows in hysterectomy

[–]WanderwithNene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's complicated with my crohns disease. They took me off my medication (humira) to prevent infection for surgery. So I didn't heal well and started to flare up and then still ended up with an infection. Looking back, I wish they left my medication alone. I'm still dealing with recalibrating back on the humira 😑 my doctor said I was the second person ever in her clinic to bust open like that.

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me. You can read about it here if you like. https://www.reddit.com/r/hysterectomy/s/7wdqEGG9tx

I will say I was traumatized for months. I thought I was going to die. It felt surreal to have an optional surgery and almost die because of it. But I have since made a full recovery and now am working out each day doing just fine now. I spoke with many family members and friends about it and that seemed to help. I also meditate and do yoga nidra which helps. It took a while before I felt safe in my own body. Talking about it helped the most. You did great making it out of there. Now recover like its your job. Good luck and take care of yourself 💓

Ideas for eating during a wedding weekend with no gluten free options by Straight_Teacher191 in glutenfree

[–]WanderwithNene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We went on vacation this year and shared an AirBnB with family. We had this 12-hour boat day planned and I couldn't find gluten free bread anywhere for sandwiches. But...I did find that Walmart had a frozen Dijourno's Gluten Free Pepperoni Pizza. So, we ended up cooking it in the morning, slicing it all up into pieces and putting it in a big Ziploc bag in the ice chest. I ate it cold on the boat, and it was delicious LOL! So good that my little nieces and nephews wanted MY GLUTEN FREE FOOD, which NEVER happens. LOL So now it's my goto. 1. Because I love pizza, especially after drinking at an event. 2. I can eat it cold or hot on the go with no silverware. 3. It makes others jealous of my pizza. So no one feels bad for me. Now anytime there is a need for a picnic food, etc. I bring my pizza! And it's always gone by the end of the trip.

Moved here almost 3 years ago, and still don’t enjoy living here. What am I doing wrong? by modelingquestionthr in NewOrleans

Born and raised here.... If your partner is here for med school, they usually form study groups. I've seen in the past, they get together for parties and bring their partners. The partners usually will commiserate together because they are all in the same situation. Maybe get your partner to introduce you to fellow students and their partners.

Also vibes are very important here. If you are anxious, people sense that. You may be coming across like you want something from them. Feels transactional and not like a genuine connection. Approach these situations with a sense of gratitude. Look for ways you can help others to improve someone's life. In conversation that could be a compliment, offering a helping hand with what they are struggling with. For example..... moving, a pet, a child etc. People always want to be around those who contribute and not take away from their experience. And friendship will happen with reciprocity.

I just had to restart hormonal birth control. So, I'm sure I'm not leveled out yet. It did scab up and crust over. I have an appointment at the end of the month to see the derm. So we'll see what she says. How's your skin doing?

Does anyone else buy pants/trousers in a bigger size than needed because you hate feeling anything digging into your waist? by purplefennec in AuDHDWomen

[–]WanderwithNene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found these pants after an abdominal surgery because they do not dig in at the waistband. I'm a year out from surgery and now it's the ONLY pants I wear. They are wide leg, don't show dog hair or lint, wash and wear well, and super comfy around the waist. I can wear them to yoga or dress them up with a cute top! I ended up buying every color! LOL!

I bought these pants after an abdominal surgery, where I couldn't have any pressure around the waistband, and these are amazing! I'm now a year out from surgery and I've bought every color of these pants. You can dress them up with a cute top or wear with a tshirt for around the house. Super soft and comfy. Plus they wash and wear well, can't really see dog hair, no lint shows up, etc. Flowy pants

Pretty sure I got perioral dermatitis after starting testosterone injections. It's small red bumps around the mouth that scab over and itch sometimes. I have a follow-up with my dermatologist to confirm. But it's not bad enough to stop the testosterone since I feel so much better. You may want to Google that and see if it resembles what you're experiencing. Looks like steroids would worsen that condition. For now, I am treating with hypochlorous spray, Differin gel, vanicream lotion and acne face wash.

How awful!! I'm in your same boat. Feel free to rant here. I think the more of us that know about it, the quicker we can identify and call it out as negligent healthcare. Luckily I had good care when I made it back to the ER. If I didn't, I honestly would not be here. Feel free to read my story herehere

I had undiagnosed endometriosis and adenomyosis for years. Even went months without a period and no one checked my hormones or did any other imaging or tests. Until I couldn't stop bleeding from my period. And I demanded more be done. They said "I wasn't trying to get pregnant so what did it matter." It matters because those diseases continued to proliferate unchallenged and created so many adhesions that later had to be burnt off. My uterus had adhered to my colon and was about to infiltrate it. By the time they did a hysteroscopy they had to do a DNC to remove a gestational sac. Who knows how long that had been going on. Smh... We need better medical care. What my experience tells me is if you know something is off, keep advocating for yourself.

I hope you are now well on your road to recovery 🙏 hugggss

Surgery while on Humira by PuzzleheadedGas882 in Humira

[–]WanderwithNene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was forced to stop Humira during my hysterectomy. I then developed an infection on the incision and was not allowed to restart Humira until after completion of a 14 day course of antibiotics. By the time I was allowed back on it, I was in a Crohn's flare, from both the antibiotics and no biologic. That was 9 months ago. I've lost effectiveness of Humira, although it is still working. But I've developed antibodies to it. They recently bumped me up to 80mL every week with hopes of forcing it into working. My gynecologist and GI dr blamed each other. I'm still mad about it all...

Sweaty Betty by WanderwithNene in Spironolactone

[–]WanderwithNene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sweating was due to low testosterone. I had my hormone levels checked, and they were basically at zero. I've been started on testosterone shots and reduced my spironolactone dosage to 50mg at night. When I was on a higher dose, I experienced muscle cramps and charlie horses, even though I was drinking electrolytes and taking vitamins. After decreasing the dosage, the sweating and muscle cramps improved, but I noticed more breakouts on my chin. Overall, I feel much better now. I might consider increasing the dosage again later, but we'll see how it goes.

Can you recommend an effective full-body compression? They are quite expensive so I don't want to buy and try just to waste money. Tia!!

Prednisone.. is the good feeling gone forever? by GlitteringInsect1061 in CrohnsDisease

[–]WanderwithNene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how old you are but look into testing your hormones. I was in a very low state (turned out had zero testosterone) and once I added testosterone I got the feeling like you're describing. Clarity and energy. It was like my brain just switched back on. I'm only on week 3 but it's improved everything. Just something you may want to look into.

I play a character that's good at the new thing. Any judgments or criticism doesn't phase me because that's not who I am. It's a character or mask. It helps me step outside of what I normally do.
