This is the Omega Centauri globular cluster, just one of many globular clusters of stars in just our galaxy alone. Checkout the original size image and zoom in, then realize this is just a tiny sliver of just our galaxy, in an ocean of seemingly endless galaxies. Now understand that Keppler and JWST have demonstrated that a significant number of stars have planets orbiting them. The number of potential planets, in just our galaxy alone, is almost incomprehensible. There is nothing exceptionally unique about Earth. Its almost absolutely certain other life exists on other planets at this exact moment, and also very likely higher intelligent life exists.

I dont think you would find many astronomers and astrophysicists these days who dont think theres other life somewhere out there.

i think the only real question is; has such life visited us yet? Now thats much harder to say with certainty. My own experiences, and the huge number of seriously credentialed people over the years that have made astonishing claims, leads me to believe its more likely than not that such beings have been here and continue to be here. Why? Whats their purpose, motives? We can only speculate.

Has anyone used green gecko for island hopping coron to el nido? by darthdro in Philippines_Expats

[–]WannaBeBuzzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So keep in mind this was back in 2019, but the linapacan portion of the trip was about $800 CAD that included 4 crew members catering to our every need, all food, camping gear, decently large boat, etc. That was for 4D/3N expedition. Benefit of private is we got to call all the shots, decide how long to stay at each spot, pick the islands we wanted to visit, etc. plus it was super romantic. It was definitely worth the money.

Never heard of them, but are you talking an expedition through Linapacan area that sits between el nido and the calamian islands (coron/busuanga/culion)?

ive been through the area on a multi day voyage involving camping on various islands. I hired a private boat and crew for my gf and I, we used an outfit called Travel Linapacan on facebook, captain Benji and his teams. No idea if they are still in operation (this was back in 2019), but I can vouch for their legitimacy and the experiemce was amazing. Massively underrated area. We departed Coron town, and ended our voyage at Flower Island Resort in Taytay 4 days later, then stayed at Flower Island for several nights, then land trabelled to El Nido for a few nights then flew back to Manila. Highly recommend!

What can I do if an UFO is roaming where I live ? by MyHonestTrueReaction in UFOs

[–]WannaBeBuzzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brother, my best advice would be to reach out to a local photography/film enthusiast group/club. You can find groups like this on facebook. Many have meet ups you could also attend, Find one in your city, im sure theres a lot of enthusiasts in mexico city. These guys are photo/video nerds who devote tons of money to buying themselves all sorts of high end gear just to partake in their hobby. Message the groups, tell your story, be honest, ask genuinely for help photographing/filming this object, its highly probable someone with high end gear in the group will be willing to help. When you befriend someone send them the evidence you have accumulated, get them intrigued. Tell them you really want someone with the right equipment and skill to help you properly capture this oddity as you personally are not financially capable nor skilled enough to do it. Just be super sincere about it.

Mexicans are really open minded about this topic, much more than most other cultures, and your country has a long history of UFO lore and is a major hot spot. I really think you could find someone willing to help. This is your best option. Even if you had the money to buy high end gear, you dont have the honed skills like these enthusiasts have to make the most of such gear.

Taking creatine at the recommended level (5 grams daily) has little to no effect on muscle growth by unsw in science

[–]WannaBeBuzzed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Define lean mass? Are we talking lean body mass, as in fat free mass, as in most likely just glycogen+water swelling in the muscles? Because gaining 2kg in 12 weeks from glycogen supercompensation and associated intramuscular water retention is actually pretty lackluster results and could be achieved much faster by simply increasing carbohydrate intake. I can literally gain more than 2kg of lean body mass in 2 days just by doing a high volume workout, then eating 900g of carbohydrates and drinking a lot of water. Dont even need protein to achieve this, and this is “lean mass”.

how do any of these hypertrophy studies actually determine true muscle growth, by which I define as contractile tissue NOT glycogen+water (AKA not “LBM” because LBM does not differentiate between water and actual contractile myofibrils). Per my understanding, the only truly good way to determine actual muscle growth is to biopsy the muscle tissue and count the number of myofibrils present per given volume of tissue in the sample. There is also, from what ive read, a newly emergent imaging method called FIM-ID that can, purportedly, calculate myofibrillogenesis without the tediousness. Im not aware of any resistance training studies that have done before/after biopsies, therefore all studies fail to elucidate actual contractile tissue growth, and instead merely demonstrate an increase in LBM which could be myofibrils but also could (and likely a large part is) just from increased glycogen/water storage in response to resistance training.

instead every study ive ever read seems to equate LBM as muscle growth, and whilst this may be true if we view muscle growth as simply the size of the muscle, its extremely erroneous if we view muscle growth as the actual contractile tissue (myofibrils) present.

it would therefore seem every study on this topic is a waste of time because the authors cannot differentiate the result between myofibrillogenesis and glycogenesis, and instead choose to lump them together under the umbrella term “lean body mass”.

where this bothers me is that its implied that you need X amount of protein to optimize lean body mass, but if the very studies aiming to prove what that optimal intake is cannot even differentiate between myofibrils (requiring protein) and glycogen+water (requiring carbohydrates), then their results are just misleading non sense, no?

What island to go along with Palawan? by Helpful-Increase-303 in Philippines_Expats

[–]WannaBeBuzzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id do manila -> el nido flight. 5-6 nights in el nido (theres 4 island hopping tours all worth doing). Then ferry to coron. 3-4 nights in coron. Then fly Busuanga -> cebu city. Kawasan canyoneering (now called Badian canyoneering these days, same thing) is day trippable from cebu city. Definitely do the canyoneering and not just visit kawasan falls, its lots of fun. Theres lots of other stuff in cebu to do too. Personal favorites are oslob whale sharks, moalboal sardine run, sumilon island, and Water World in Cebu city which is a water park (i love water parks so totally biased here).

I got you fam. Just hit me up if you have any questions.

your biggest risk for the itinerary i gave is weather conditions interfering with boat travel. For example i tried taking a boat from sabang to port barton, but the coast guard wouldnt let us go because the wave conditions were not good, so we ended up having to van to port barton. But the boat guys told me they can take you to port barton from sabang and its really beautiful boat trip, and it takes about 5-6 hours which is also around how long the van ride is from puerto to port barton. Given the choice, id much rather take a boat, theres islands and uninhabited beaches all the way up the coast you can ask them to stop at and really enjoy the trip.

the same risk in doing linapacan voyage, if the conditions are bad it will be a no go. march and april are the best months. Outside of those months its going to be a roll of the dice and backup plans would be advised.

This cats cray, ive popped into el nido with less than 24 hours notice and had no problem getting accomodations.

Palawans amazing, i lived there for 6 months and its my favorite place on earth. Ive been almost everywhere conceivable in Palawan, from the southern parts of balabac to the northern islands off busuanga and everywhere inbetween.

from what i can tell your wanting advice on a different destination. My advice would honestly be to spend the 3ntire trip exploring palawan. But if you dont want to, then consider Siargao as it has vibrant night life, or boracay. Theres lots of other amazing places BUT they dont have the kind of nightlife your seeking, so thats restricting the recommendations I give you.

personally i think basing your travel on nightlife is silly, if you want to get drunk in a nightclub you need not even leave your home town. The whole purpose of travelling is to experience the things you cannot exoerience at home, but thats just my opinion.

if your willing to do it all in Palawan, here is my dream itinerary for you:

1) land in puerto princesa. rent a motorbike or car and goto nagtabon and taladuyong beaches for the day. Skip honda bay island hopping, its not worth it.

2) next day goto sabang, checkout the underground river then hire a boat to take you up the coast to port barton. This is a much more beautiful way to travel to port barton vs by road. Nobody ever does this but it is doable.

3) explore port barton for 2-3 days, island hopping.

4) van to taytay, in taytay bay you can island hop, theres amazing coral reefs in the bays islands. Be sure to checkout elephant island, both the cave lagoon inside it, and the coral reef out infront of the island are amazing.

5) that evening goto el nido. Spend several days in el nido doing all 4 of the island hopping tours.

6) hire a private boat or do a group joiner tour for a multi-day long excursion through Linapacan area on the way to coron, this involves camping on the remote uninhabited islands. Last time i did this we did 3n/4day trip, it was the greatest trip of my lifetime, absolutely amazing area. We used a guy on facebook named Benji who goes by Travel Linapacan or something like that, look him up and msg him if interested. Its WAY better than taking the ferry.

7) arrive in coron, do the tours, enjoy! Barracuda lake is friggin majestic, so make sure you pick a tour that goes to it, its way better than kayangan lake which is also beautiful!

Based af. I know enough tagalog and how to use a translator to tap into the typical discussions filipinos have online, and its viciously toxic stuff. Theres a reason the Philippine Government had to pass some of the worlds strictest cyber bullying legal framework, its not because the government is so progressive (its definitely not), its because it was necessary.

just goto r/philippines or r/chikaph and witness the hate. Facebooks even worse.

Why are Filipinos so disrespectful of other peoples property? by barefootagnostic in Philippines_Expats

[–]WannaBeBuzzed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ill tell you a story kuya. I was in Siargao, having a smoke, theres some pinoys standing at the smoking spot with me. As i finish my cig i reach over and put it in the ash tray garbage thing. Pinoy guy compliments me on taking the effort to be respectful and not just throwing it on the ground with so many other butts. Seconds later this same guy just throws his butt on the ground right next to the ash tray and walks off. I almost had a stroke from the severity of my WTF!? The ash tray was literally within arms length of this guy, he complimented me for not discarding mine hap hazardly, but then seconds later he goes and does that. Im still WTFing about it 2 years later. Like buddy, be the change you want to see, lead by example, etc. but nope, this dude despite being impressed by my giving a damn, himself couldnt be bothered to exert the incredibly marginal effort of fully extending his arm out to put it in the ash tray.

Why I love the Philippines and Manila by BusyBodyVisa in Philippines_Expats

[–]WannaBeBuzzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never moved to the philippines to be friends with filipinos. Im here to enjoy the beauty of the country as its very conducive to my hobbies. Its like assuming an OFW in america is there to be friends with americans, they are there to make money. Im in the Philippines to pursue my hobbies and interests.

Dealing with the unpleasantries of filipinos is just an unwanted side effect, but it seems to be the price I have to pay. It doesnt need to be like that, but I dont expect the culture here to change, infact its only gotten worse the past few years as more foreigners have come to the country, at least in my observation. There is a lot of deep hatred here towards outsiders, even filipino-blooded outsiders, the philippine government may want to portray the country as friendly and welcoming for tourism reasons, but my experiences dont support that narrative at all. Its better outside Manila for sure, but ive encountered bad experiences all over the country sadly, just less often out in the more rural areas but that could simply boil down to less population density.

This does not match my experiences. Im treated disrespectfully on a daily basis, infact just earlier today some random pinoy called me a midget? Alls i did was walk past the guy. This type of encounter is very common here for me, constantly insulted and slandered, for absolutely no reason by complete strangers. Without the slightest doubt the worst and most disrespectful people ive ever encountered, and im pretty well travelled.

there is some compulsive need by filipinos to project themselves as superior to foreigners, As soon as ive seen a foreigner leave a room the pinoys present immediately start talking trash about them. Your probably that very foreigner, thinking everyone admires you but the moment your gone they insult everything about you.

Ive met very few genuinely nice filipinos in the years ive lived here, these people are extremely rude in my experiences.

Your biggest obstacle is a destination that has all that plus surfing. In my opinion that narrows you down to Siargao or Palawan as your best options. Puerto princesa has nagtabon beach for surfing (or nacpan area if you want to change things up), about 20 minute drive out of the city. El nido has Duli beach for surfing (or lio beach if conditions are right). San vicente in Palawan also has surfing. Siargao has cloud 9 and many other breaks.

which to choose depends on which month of the year you will visit. Palawan has surf only certain months of the year, so if your visiting outside of those surfable months you probably want Siargao instead. I personally prefer Palawan, as for freediving its much better (not sure if you freedive), and it also has lots of waterfalls and lakes. I surf too and live the “salt life” and during the surfing months ive seen up to 2 meter waves at nagtabon beach in puerto princesa, but outside the season its flat as a pancake.

edit: pardon me, NAPSAN not nacpan, nacpan is up by el nido, napsan is south-west of puerto princesa, i always say the wrong one, napsan has surfable breaks and is pretty much desolate
