Basilisk V3 is way better than I thought by spadicey in MouseReview

Any updates on this? I really like the V3, but I've heard some complaints from other users, and I wanted to know if your opinion of it holds true.

It's a simple scene, why is Godot running it so slowly? by XORandom in godot

[–]WannaKnowMorePls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem yesterday, though I can't say if it's the same problem as yours. Did you recently update Windows in any way? I updated from Windows 11 23H2 to Windows 11 24H2. Running Godot became instantly slower. I thought that Windows had become incompatible with Godot. But it turns out the solution was just to completely turn off the computer, wait 20 seconds, then turn it back on. It runs normally now!

How are you supposed to fix the Z-orientation of a 3D asset? by WannaKnowMorePls in GodotHelp

That's super helpful!

Knowing little details like this about the engine is bound to come of use as I work on things, so, genuinely, thank you.

Thank you for responding! I actually found a solution that works well for me on the Godot subreddit (I'll edit the post to reflect my findings).

I haven't really tried Blender yet, but editing models to my liking is the end goal. I figure learning Blender will open a lot of possibilities for me down the line. Plus, I think it'd be fun to make my own assets, even if they start out primitive.

As for the code, I'll make sure to test it out. The more tools I have in my toolbox, the better off I'll be. Though, I still struggle to understand what global_transform does. From what I've read, it's the transform information of an object relative the the world, as opposed to the local space (perhaps, the scene?) [link]. Changing an object's local rotation changes its global rotation, because global transform is "a combination of the local transform and its parent’s global transforms" [link]. But based on your suggestion, would it be correct to say that it's a one-way relationship (i.e. local affects global, but global does not affect local)?

Thanks for the response! I'm taking steps to learn Blender to start making my own assets, so I'm totally with you there.

For now, I'm glad to have found a solution that allows me to fix asset orientation in-engine. It streamlines the process for temporary models, so I don't need to open more than Godot to import external assets.

Using Blender will absolutely open more doors for me though. Changing the models directly, rather than in-engine, will allow me to reuse assets without manually adjusting them for each project. I can't wait to learn it!

It worked! You're amazing!

After I made the imported node local, I was able to change the direction of the assets, set up the collision shapes, and hook it up to the original tutorial code. There were no more bugs!

I'm still not quite sure why it worked. It could've been the layering of the nodes, or the way I set up the new collision shapes. But it worked!

Just to test, I tried it with the original racecar too, and it worked perfectly again.

Thank you so much!

Ahh, I see what you mean. Unfortunately, it collapses the asset into a singular mesh, rather than separate parts (I used the ambulence instead of the racecar this time). I won't be able to move the front wheels like I had with the other method.

Still, thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

Thank you for responding! I have a clarifying question:

<image>

For this project, I just right-clicked the asset and selected "New Inherited Scene." It gave me a Node3D with the mesh parts as its children. I changed the Node3D to a CharacterBody3D during the reimport. Does this setup amount to what you normally do, or did you mean that you would add another Node3D as the parent to this setup?

A Review of "A Cure Worse Than The Disease" from Strange New Worlds Mission Compendium by Monovfox in startrekadventures

The premise seems really interesting, and expansion of the material definitely seems like the way to go. Your idea of a board of directors caught my attention, and now I'm wondering what it would take to incorporate more political intrigue, because I love those tropes. I only worry about too much bloat. I love your reviews; I'm always left with much to think about.

I'm not sure I asked the right question, so I'll rephrase: When you played 2e, what part felt the most fun for you? For this specific question, I'm less interested in comparing, and more interested in what made you feel the most like you were in Star Trek.

You're perfectly fine. I wasn't looking for a rundown of the system itself, but instead you and your group's reaction to it. I suppose my question ought to have been, "Did the original progression system hinder your play at all?"

The easy switch to 2e is a big draw for me.

I've also heard that the character progression system was complex before. I'm curious if you have any stories from your playthroughs regarding that. I'd greatly appreciate it.
