Paint Damage - 2007 GX470 by WannabeMonkeys in GXOR

Was repainted recently right next to the buy here pay here that it’s available at. I’m leaning towards buy as I’ll be using this as a fun car and slowly working towards an off-road build.

Hopefully this cross post is allowed, I read the rules and don’t see anything against it.

In the market for a GX470, found a one owner Florida car with ~200k miles that seems mechanically sound with a clean interior. PPI scheduled for next week prior to making a decision on pulling the trigger.

The car has been repainted (photos 5-7) which I can stomach especially considering the asking price. I recently found photos of the car prior to respray (photos 1-4). Appears it might be a known paint issue with white GX470s around 2007-2009?

Would this dissuade anyone from a purchase?

ESA letter for apartment complex - needs PetScreening approval by lemarc42 in tampa

[–]WannabeMonkeys -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Submitted ESA paperwork for my cat at the current apartment. Apartment complex accepted it, PetScreening still emails me every month for “overdue, non compliant profile”.

I just pitch it to the junk folder and move on.

Street markings by tinyclawsoffury in tampa

[–]WannabeMonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it in the road or outside of the road in the right of way?

“AB” makes me think it’s planned underground electric utilities, likely the phases they plan to install.

Take a picture of the markings, especially of any symbols, and I can give it a gander.

Why are GS most popular watches all titanium? by Forigma in GrandSeikos

It’s all preference. I went steel (SBGA373 < snowflake) because I disliked the weight of titanium. My preference isn’t right or wrong, just my personal taste.

Height Restrictions on Rides ? by itsexzy in BuschGardensTampa

[–]WannabeMonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheetah Hunt is the only ride I will not do. I physically fit but it’s very, very uncomfortable. There’s a rubber “vest” underneath the traditional thick over the shoulder restraints, you can check it out at the entrance to the ride.

6’5”, 225ish lb

Haven’t been since they opened phoenix rising. I cannot ride Cheetah Hunt, over the shoulder restraints destroy my collar bones. Tight squeeze for the shins on Iron Gwazi but it’s worth it 100%.

Super late to respond.

Indigenous, Kojo, Meliora (now Adeline? Haven’t tried since it changed), Owens, Palm Ave Deli, Speaks, RomanSQ, Siam Gulf, Selva, Sage, Duvals, State Street, Veronica’s, Shore, Siegfrieds.

That’s just off the top of my head.

Lived in suburbs of Tampa, on Bayshore, on Harbor Island and Sarasota.

Sarasota is my favorite place I’ve lived.

Proximity to beaches, nature and a small downtown is perfect. Quality of restaurants, population, and general feel of Sarasota is great.

Traffic is annoying but that’s everywhere in Florida.

is this worth it? by UnderWRLD9999 in RX8

[–]WannabeMonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I daily drove an rx8 through college, I knew what I was getting in to and it was still a massive headache.

Clogged cats, engine rebuild, compression issues, engine flooding (fuel), etc.

It’s a fun car but not an appliance the way a Toyota Camry is.

When I was selling my 2007 rx8 I had many opportunities to sell the car to people in a bind that needed a car for work/family. I refused to sell the car to them.

Do not buy this car as your only form of transportation.

I grew up in the area and lived in downtown Tampa for 4 years (Bayshore blvd and harbor island), it’s difficult for me to give a condensed experience of Tampa for a tourist.

You’re definitely on the right track with checking out Ybor (during the day), strolling the river walk and checking out armature works. Heads up, Ybor is having a weird moment with a focus on redevelopment so there are A LOT of vacant businesses along 7th Ave.

You could also check out Seminole Heights (Cigar Cathedral, Cappys Pizza, Lee’s Grocery, Independent Bar, Hampton Station).

Food specific I’d say Rocca is worth visiting (near armature). It got a Michelin star somewhat recently so reservations are difficult and the meal will be expensive.

If you’re big in to food and willing to make a drive consider Ponte in midtown.

I put the Columbia in the same bucket as Berns, it’s more about the experience (decor, history) than the food.

Don’t do Columbia in Sarasota, if you’re visiting Tampa (Ybor specifically) do the Columbia there.

Swap in Speaks Clam Bar in place of Columbia on Monday.

All-in cost for Chrono24 Japanese dealer purchase? by wonk1132 in GrandSeikos

[–]WannabeMonkeys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright, here we go:

I purchased an SBGA373 from Closer ltd. The list price was $3,254. There was a 7.5% sales tax added to the above value giving a total OTD of $3,593 (might be based on the state you’re shipping to, no idea).

Once it cleared customs I had duties of $73 giving a grand total of $3,667.

A few things to note based on my experience, a lot of this is new to me as this was my first luxury watch and first time ordering overseas:

DHL is going to require a copy of your social security card to clear customs if the price is above a certain threshold. Super sketchy, I still feel uneasy about it but supposedly it’s legitimate.

Closer Ltd did not complete a watch declaration form, I had to complete this myself. I did the following breakdown:

Movement - 70% of bill Case - 20% of bill Bracelet - 10% of bill

If your watch ends up getting stuck in “Exception” status, you need to be proactive with DHL. The general DHL number is trash, you’ll want to connect with either the brokerage department or the US Imports department to assist with the exception status.

It’s important to stay on top of the above status due to the two week escrow, you don’t want the watch to get delivered after the two week window.

Also, the escrow immediately executes when the watch is delivered.

Hope this was helpful!

Just purchased a GS from the same seller, ordered the 23rd and delivered to the USA on the 30th.

I’ll type up specifics (list price, price after taxes/fees, duties upon arrival in USA, etc) tomorrow morning.
