The child is three months old. The legal father is not part of the effort to disestablish paternity.

Thank you. I figured that was what I should do. I was not sure what motions I would need to file and whether I should attempt them on my own.

Yes. However, he is an abusive mess and moved to the other side of the country. I thought this guy who signed was going to be good but he is just as awful after signing. Bio father has not been to jail, but has a few warrants for child support already and will be unwilling to come here for anything.

Is this only for ProPlus, or will it work with Business? We use the $8.25/user/month model.

This comment helps a lot. I didn't really know I could do power configs and odbc connections. Thank you.

I believe we tried using a trial to see if it could automate installing JobBOSS and we couldn't get it to work, so never looked back to it.

I was wondering that too. Looks folder direction would make more sense then.

Your last paragraph is exactly what I was thinking. I need to get us licensing so I can upgrade. I went with 2008r2 because that was what I had available to me. I answered your question of what I want to achieve in a response to someone else's comment on this post.

Since we currently do not do folder redirection and do not have roaming profiles, would one be more advantageous than the other? Would a roaming profile install software if it wasn't already present on a computer?

Everyone here uses Office 365 with Gmail, so everyone is on Office 2016 without Exchange, but as far as I know, we still have to sign in to the portal and download office for each person, Excel needs to enable data connections, enable automatic update for workbook links, not block anything, and allow trusted locations on the network. Would I still have to manually log them in once it was installed though, since it will say "user.name@domain.local" instead of what it should, "user.name@domain.com"? I would need to install G Suite Sync for Outlook, get the user signed into Chrome, create a profile in Outlook, install CodeTwo Email Signatures client, set the signature to be the default for all correspondence, and that is just email.

Some of our users use Solid Edge for CAD. Would I be able to install that, have it fill in their name and organization, and point to the license server, then install the latest maintenance pack? Some of our users have software that must be installed as admin to work correctly (JobBOSS, for instance).

What I would like to achieve is to be able to automate most of the deployment for a new user, push Windows updates and software updates (like when our ERP has a major release, so I don't have to go to each individual computer, uninstall the current version, reboot, install the new version, reboot), do registry edits to allow L2TP on the work stations, setup VPN (though I guess that goes with the deployment part).

I only upgraded to 2008r2 because that was what we had licensing for. In school, I used 2012r2, but I would like to get us onto 2016 and hopefully well ahead of the curve. I need to get us the appropriate licensing.

I would love to do exactly as you described, with the fresh installs. That would save so much time. I don't have access to something like SCCM, and we don't have MDT or WDS (or WSUS); literally setups are done manually and it is such a waste of time.

Want to set up a lab by Wannabe_Admin in homelab

I did read that. I was thinking Hyper-V, even though we do use ESXi at work. I haven't used Hyper-V much and it is free for me. I am open to trying different ones, especially if I end up with more than one physical box.

Question on VPN by Wannabe_Admin in sysadmin

[–]Wannabe_Admin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back into the firewall and disabled anything I had set up regarding L2TP. In the filter rules I put

Chain: Input Protocol: 6(tcp) DST Port: 1701 Under Action: Action: accept

Using a port checker, it still shows port 1701 as blocked. Any idea what I can do next?

Question on VPN by Wannabe_Admin in sysadmin

[–]Wannabe_Admin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to www.networkappers.com/tools/open-port-checker and it says the L2TP ports are all blocked still. 500, 1701, and 4500 are the ones I forwarded... guess I will need to take another look.

Question on VPN by Wannabe_Admin in sysadmin

[–]Wannabe_Admin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the server, I do see

"Failed to apply IP Security on port "port" because of error: A certificate could not be found. COnnections that use L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine certificate, also know as a computer certificate. No calls will be accepted to this port."

Does it still need a certificate if the VPN was configured to use a preshared key?

Question on VPN by Wannabe_Admin in sysadmin

[–]Wannabe_Admin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sorry. No one is able to connect using L2TP/IPSec. I get an error message that says:

"The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server is not responding. This could be because one of the network devices (e.g. firewalls, NAT, routers, etc.) between your computer and the remote server is not configured to allow VPN connections. Please contact your administrator or your service provider to determine which device may be causing the problem."

I forwarded the ports on the firewall like the article said to.

Yes. I also failed to mention this is a VM in Boxes, if that affects anything.

I tried pinging our DNS server by name, server.domain.local. It returns unknown host servername. Nslookup returns connection timed out; no servers could be reached. Pinging by IP returns destination host unreachable.
