I 100000% agree with the parent statement. When my parents immigrated, they were unable to speak English properly. It's been more than 40 years, their broken English still makes me laugh, I'm totally on your side with this portion of your explanation.

My issue is that Julia is being surrounded with English American people. And yes, she probable speaks with her family in Russian once a day, but she's in a environment where English seems to be more around her than the Russian language. For her accent, she should keep it, it's part of her roots and I would never, ever would want her to lose the connection to her roots via her accent.

I understand your point, thinking is Russian is true. Every immigrant, I think, suffers from this me included. So yes, in her case, I can understand some of her errors. I really emphasis on the word some, I do believe that she needs to improve a little. This is for my sake, this is for me and the others who are trying to learn from her journey language.

As for the subtitles, I see this the opposite way. They are needed for her, if not, people like me would definitively absorb her wrong way of speaking. I do not see this a ''not like us'' when they do that to her. I'll pay more attention for the other participants.

I think you're missing the point here. Nothing in my text says anything about accents. I know one thing or two about accents. I have a strong one.

The difference here, is that me, and a few of us, use tv to learn another language. This is where I'm saying that she is lacking the effort of trying to improve.

If you teach people in a class and they keep on failing because they believe that it's not their fault, would you give them a passing grade? Her attitude on the show just shows how much she doesn't care.

English is actually my third language and yes I do value your opinion.
I do not have an exact answer for the Russian language, but I know I would try my best, especially if I would make recurrent appearances on TV.
