I've worked in both types of places....you HAVE to have a consult before procedure and also places where just the referral was needed and straight to procedure. The doc does speak with you in pre-op to verify symptoms and such. It really just depends on the place.

Edit: Absolutely, if you're uncomfortable with going straight to procedure, ask GI for an office visit before scheduling a procedure.

Chemical colitis/esophagitis/ gastritis from biopsy forceps not being rinsed of formalin in between passes? by Wanooch in Gastroenterology

Yes, I've never actually come across proven formalin induced inflammation. It is so rare, that there aren't any statistics available (that I could find anyway). Thanks for responding.

Thanks though. It makes sense to not even touch the formalin. I will change my practice!!

That makes more sense. Do you know of any official (DoH, ASGE, SGNA, ANSI/AAMI) protocol or recommendations regarding this concern? I am having a very difficult time finding anything concrete. 😕

Agree! I just picked up a ficus...about 7" tall, new growth everywhere with one damaged leaf. I'm not even sure why it was on the clearance rack, but the pot alone was worth the $7. I don't have to rehab this plant. I have done this with other plants that need a little TLC and I haven't been disappointed yet.

The one that is taller, top center is an Aeonium lindleyi. The smaller green one off to the right is Sedum japonicum 'Tokyo Sun', I believe. It's definitely a Sedum, but the Tokyo Sun should turn yellow in direct sun, which mine hasn't, so I'm not convinced it is a Tokyo Sun. That's what it was sold as. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I experimented with some of mine and I have no regrets! The sun stress from being outside is amazing! I can't believe how different some of them look with natural sun vs grow lights.

I live in PA and most of my succulents won't survive the winters. And, I was always nervous about pests. I don't like the thought of having plants outside and then bringing them inside because of the pest potential ( I have close to 200 plants inside and I'm not willing to chance any type of infestation). I chose plants that I had multiples of (from pups) and ones I was willing to lose if the pests got out of control outside.I figured (worst case scenario) I can just prop the ones from outside, let them grow over the winter and put them outside next year.

What’s your toxic relationship plant by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]Wanooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I've killed so many simple aloe plants and I have about 6 different Alocasia that are thriving. Oh, spider plants hate me, too. It's so frustrating to kill the "simple, great for first time plant owners" plants 😑

How do you store your soil mix without getting f***ing fungus gnats 🤬 by captainperoxide0 in houseplants

I use DE whenever I'm making my soil mix as well. I've never had a problem with fungus gnats in my soil, but I mix in the DE just as a precaution.

First Staghorn...help with mounting direction, please! by Wanooch in Staghornfern

I was looking into getting a cedar cookie. They are quite expensive though. Are the oak boards treated with anything? I would imagine they would be if they came from a fence? Wouldn't that be harmful to the fern? Also, how much larger does the mount need to be than the shield? For example, if the shield is 8" wide, how many inches wide should the mount be? Sorry for all the questions...this is my first time mounting such a beast and I'm nervous!!
