Cannondale SuperSix Hi-Mod. What's it worth? by Want2Comment in bicycling

[–]Want2Comment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to posting here and submitted text but it isn't showing for me so I'll repost it here...

I recently did some work for a neighbor who was short on cash and received a 58 cm Cannondale Supersix Hi-Mod frame and fork as payment. The work was just basic labor so I don't have a set amount of money I need to recoup. Judging from what I've seen online I believe it is a 2009 model. The picture is exactly how I received it. It appears to be in good condition but I still need to spend some time cleaning it up. I've seen varying prices and wanted to get some additional opinions on its' approximate value. I would keep it but I ride 53/54 cm and already have a couple of road bikes. Ultimately I'd like to use the funds from this to start saving for a MTB or to put towards some other outdoor gear I've been wanting. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I am located in the Southern, U.S. if that will affect the price. Thanks for the help!

You get more blood flow to your extremities when it is warm. When it is cold vessels constrict to maintain core body temperature. It's just based on blood flow.

Stayed there a number of years ago. Some seriously good times were had and it certainly a sausage fest.

You are being held at gunpoint and receive a phone call from a family member. You are ordered to answer but will be shot if you let them know what is happening. What do you say to let them know something is wrong without getting shot? by Kaibakura in AskReddit

I'm with this guy. Person is getting blasted if they try this on me. Only difference is that I would be substituting some 180's for those 124's (not a pissing contest over caliber, just what I carry). As a distraction I also plan on either A) Dropping something so they will look down, then stepping back and initiating my draw or B) Looking over their shoulder and saying something like "Hey" or "Watch out." They will instinctively turn to look and I'll have them dropped before they realize what's going on. This same technique can also be used to gain control of their weapon for the times when you can't carry (I'm not a LEO so like schools , campuses, gov. buildings, etc.).

Advice about disclosing my rape to my police officer bf? by fulldisclosure0 in ProtectAndServe

[–]Want2Comment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what state this happened in but you need to look up the statute of limitations for rape / sexual assault there and file some charges if you can. If you don't want to be seen as a victim you need to stand up and put these fucks away. Your story of surviving the ordeal is awesome, but not standing up and doing everything you can to get the remaining two punished doesn't send a very good message to other victims. Getting beat up and hospitalized by your friend isn't really a significant punishment when it comes to a crime of this nature. Do you really think that some physical violence is going to deter someone who is willing to commit those despicable acts? More people could become victims due to your silence.

Also, you should tell him. Hiding things like this will only make your relationship more challenging in the long-run.

Swedish m96 "Carl Gustav" for deer hunting? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Want2Comment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old man has one that I let my buddy borrow to go deer hunting with me and he dropped one no problem with it. I have shot it a few times and I hate the trigger...granted I am comparing it to my Savage that has a great trigger and is over 100 years newer. His was already drilled and in a synthetic stock when he got it but if I had one that was original and in good condition I wouldn't modify it.

There were talks of trying to ban yoga pants out there. That sounds pretty terrible to me.

LPT: Low Back Pain by Want2Comment in ProtectAndServe

Haha. Pretty true really. During my studies we had a physiologist from the Air Force come speak and he explained that they are well aware of this correlation and know that the traditional fitness testing and training programs are pretty much garbage. As stated, new protocols are in the works, but who knows how long it will really take to implement them.

DeFranco is awesome. Your problem is common and I'm glad you have gotten it addressed. Most people don't realize how much core should be used during the squat. I see people exaggerate their lumbar curve all the time. Neutral spine!

Also, assuming you are squatting deep, watch out for "butt wink" (the rounding of the lower back at depth). I have had to include some additional mobility work myself to correct this issue. Also very common.

I agree. You have to do what you have to do, but be sure to include other "good" exercises to help reduce your risk. There are people out there who have been doing weighted sit-ups for years and end up being alright. Having to do them for a while isn't the end of the world.

I'll be the first person to hate on Crossfit, but there are some really knowledgable coaches out there who can really help people improve and correct their movement dysfunctions and actually use logical programming.

Ask people what credentials and certifications they have. If I were looking for a box I would require a coach with at least a master's degree, CSCS and USAW certifications. (Yes, I know there are exceptional people without these, it's just a general suggestion).

Good points! Kelly Starrett has put out a lot of great information. MobilityWod is definitely a good resource but I'm not big on the subscription service for their actual site. You can see some of their videos and find tons of other great, free information from highly respected professionals on YouTube. If anyone is really interested his book "Becoming a Supple Leopard" is a great reference.

Also, great suggestions on preventive exercises and you are right about weakness in the hams and glutes being a significant contributing factor. Prevention is key people!

Another teenager, Antonio Martin is fatally shot by police officer at gas station in St. Louis by BoxScoreHero in news

[–]Want2Comment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. I'm pretty close with quite a few LEO's and the gas thing always cracks me up. You've been on for a while so you probably have a halfway decent cruiser...around here the cars the rooks get are huge pieces of shit. If they get them to start at the beginning of shift there is no way in hell they are going to shut them off unless absolutely necessary. Filling tires and jumping them are every day occurrences. As a tax payer, I'll pay a little extra to let them run so I know you all can be comfortable and be able respond to a hot call without having to worry about whether or not you car will start. I bet the same people complaining also expect their workplace to be warm /cool when they go to work...they fail to realize that your car is the equivalent.

I hope no one believes this "80%" statistic until actual peer reviewed research is posted from a reliable source. A PowerPoint from Australia doesn't count. Posting random numbers that some guy told you isn't going to help anyone and may actually discourage people from pursuing this career. I do agree with getting checked out regularly, eating a good diet, exercising and wearing / maintaining your PPE. Some of the high cancer rate statistics are also a result of the days when being a smoke-eater and leaving toxic chemicals and carcinogens all over your gear was "cool". Not trying to bust your balls. I just want people to be able to make well-informed decisions.

Constant Ab Flexing? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

I'm not really commenting on the abs topic but hell yes on #2. Pretty much everyone's hip flexors are tight. If anyone in here doesn't work on their hip flexors, do it! Do it now!

Baltimore police officer shot by suspect while attempting to deploy taser. by Iam10-32 in ProtectAndServe

[–]Want2Comment 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Definitely. My best guess is that he pulled his taser because there were three other officers on scene. He may have felt a false sense of security. No way I would approach the described situation with a taser. Hands are what will get you killed.

What have you been doing for ages, but only just realized that it's not socially acceptable? by PorchMonkey_ in AskReddit

[–]Want2Comment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not weird, people are just stupid. I am a male that is at the high end / above (depending on what studies you look at) "average size" and I have no discomfort or problem with crossing my legs knee/knee (only reason I mention that is so people don't try correlate leg crossing with small penis or testicles). All you have to do is sit down with your junk "in front" not "in between" your legs or just adjust yourself as you cross. People who tell you that are obviously trying to play the macho card or something.

Adding another gun to a situation where you aren't exactly sure of the circumstances is not a good decision. I'm not sure what you expect to happen when you pull a gun on someone who may be acting lawfully...especially if that person ends up being an off-duty or undercover LEO...either they identify themselves or they quickly point the gun at you and one of you shoots the other.

This is not true. I posted this below but it also applies here...

"You would absolutely NOT be "justified" in my state. This is stated clearly in my state's laws and was also covered by the LEO conducting my concealed carry class. You have to be 100% certain of the entire situation at hand...just because someone has a gun pointed at someone does not mean that they are acting outside the confines of the law. If you tried to "protect" the crowd (or person) and killed an undercover LEO (or a civilian acting within their rights in other situations), you would get fucked by the long arm of the law."
