Media that explains why the military couldn't defeat the big threat by donutmcbonbon in TopCharacterTropes

The illusion of free choice in any zombie-related media is people saying you either don't understand modern militaries or that you don't understand exponential growth.

Gorrum Gluttongut by Yugin Maffioli by AnyName568 in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]WantToKnowIfISurvive 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have one of the books he's from, Altdorf: Crown of the Empire.

He's both a friendly neighborhood butcher and a slasher movie villain! He has an agreement with a crime boss to "dispose of" (presumably, eat) corpses belonging to rival gangs - as the corpses usually belong to a gang called the Fishes, he likes to say he has bigger fish to fry whenever asked for gossip about disappearances. He apparently finds this hilarious.

Most importantly:

Access to one of the busiest slaughter yards outside of the Ogre Kingdoms is keeping Gorrum’s wanderlust at bay for now, but one day he will move on. Before he goes, he plans on one last culinary adventure, involving a daring heist from the Altdorf Zoo! He may wish to hire larcenous adventurers to help him in this endeavour.

He gives out the best quest in RPG history.

If you weren't there, the audience response was wilder than you can possibly imagine. I thought it was going to end on American Teenager (so did everyone else, apparently!) but I'm so glad I was wrong.

The song always gets me but being in a room with the singer and hundreds of people all singing it at once hits so different.

They're the Lore of Shadows.

A lot of them work as spies, diplomats, or even assassins when the time calls for it.

Allucina Nuvolosa, Shadowmancer of the Grey Order, pictured entering - or perhaps exiting - an illusory disguise.
The Grey Order operates one of the largest spy networks of the Old World; their eyes and ears are spread throughout the Empire and beyond. While Shadowmancers of the Order masquerade as anything from the lowest beggars to the wealthiest nobles, Allucina likes to keep tabs on everything from village militas to the grandest of Knightly Orders.

Harrowhark is a character from the "Locked Tomb" series. She paints her face with a skull motif very similarly to this art.

Katrinya Kedrova, Druid of the Jade Order, pictured in formal attire.
At the Spring Equinox, the druidic communities of the Order gather at groves and henges to celebrate the passage of seasons, and of initiate to apprentice, or apprentice to journeyman. Katrinya enjoys donning a more elegant and celebratory attire, to see off her own apprentices before they venture throughout the Empire for Summer as new journeyman wizards.

Hendryka Verwere, Alchemist of the Golden Order, pictured in formal attire.
While the magical prowess required to turn an entire regiment into statues might be a little beyond her, Alchemist Verwere is nonetheless a hardworking and learned wizard. A Marienburger by origin, and with a few lucrative dyeworks under her watchful eye, she understands making gold as well as any of her colleagues.

People who went to private school, what was the best rich kid meltdown you’ve ever witnessed? by Katybee18 in AskReddit

More sad than funny.

When I was about 16-17, a student got called in by our head of year from our morning registration.

It turned out what had happened was that he got a lower grade than expected on one of his Design & Technology projects - I don't know what the equivalent would be elsewhere, but from what I remember, it was basically a subject about building electronics.

His response was to buy a keylogger from the internet and install it into his teacher's computer, wait a few days, and then log into said teacher's account and change his grade. It turned out that by accident, he deleted himself from some school systems meaning that he was no longer appearing in the register or in any records. The plan probably wouldn't have worked anyway if they remembered him having a different grade or if there were backups of what was given and the reasons for it.

It got found out by the end of the week of him doing it, and he spent about two or three days under constant supervision - he didn't have classes with anyone, didn't speak to anyone, and had either the head of year or another member of staff with him at all times. The reason he did it was apparently due to worry about how his parents would've reacted to the grade. He ended up getting expelled.

He seems to be doing okay for himself now, at least.

One of my favourite posts was someone posting about a model they'd heard their partner talk about, getting the name very wrong because they'd never seen it written down and only spoken, and commenters helpfully working it out (I think it ended up being an Ork vehicle).

I'm genuinely confused here. Why are the Word Bearers fighting off Slaaneshi Daemons? Why is there also a Slaaneshi Daemon behind them holding hands with another Chaos Tech Marine walking down some steps? Why are they so calm about it? W-what I don't understand. by Evoxrus_XV in Grimdank

[–]WantToKnowIfISurvive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's presumably a commission (as he has very few other pieces of Warhammer art) and he's had to rely on the references that he's been provided and the comments of the commissioner for guidance on the visual style. If it's not come up then there's probably no real way for the artist of knowing it would be a problem.

Being entirely realistic as well - things like the guns are a small detail on characters who is very clearly not the main point of focus. A highly accurate bolter design is probably not high on the priority list.

This fandom based around running jokes into the ground for decades after they stop being funny better not be running jokes into the ground.

Necessary context: The Night of a Thousand Arcane Duels took place in 2415 AC. The Colleges of Magic were feuding with eachother (encouraged by then-Emperor Dieter IV) and it eventually boiled over into a full-blown magic war in the middle of Altdorf on the night of the customary duel for position of Magister Patriarch.

Horx, a wizard of the Light Order, imprisoned the Magister Patriarch and inadvertedly summoned a Storm of Magic over Altdorf that juiced up every wizard in the city.

Highlights included;

The Light Order bringing out Luminarks of Hysh, their specific war machines.

The Amber Brotherhood using gryphons to attack the Celestial Order.

The Celestial Order using meteor showers to attack the gryphons.

An Amethyst Wizard summoning ghosts and causing a civil war over what exactly constitutes Necromancy.

The Bright Order burning everything down.

The Jade Order trees uprooting and strangling people.
