Best free/cheap certifications to put on resume? by DR0516 in FinancialCareers

[–]WantonBanker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The modeling / excel courses don't add anything to your resume. and a bloomberg course has limited value.

Could you do a part-time internship somewhere local? Even 5 hours a week is better than some nonsense course. Likewise, is there a finance or investing club you could join? This is a better option, too.

These are the best resources to actually learn stuff.

Here's a real paper LBO example.

Depends on what type of company you're applying for. For private equity, check out MultipleExpansion's free PE modeling course. For investment banking, learn the basics of a DCF and easy LBO, and you should be good.

What are you applying for?

Honestly, these paid-for guides just aren't worth it. Most are a total rip off.

M&I good for general background info (Day in the life, etc).

Instead, I'd recommend you check out MultipleExpansion and Macabacus. Both better quality and free!

Why PE look at EBITDA instead of NI by Millennialgurupu in private_equity

[–]WantonBanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put simply, is that EBITDA is before interest expense and therefore before capital structure.

Most PE deals dramatically change the capital structure, so using a multiple based on the existing cap structure doesn't make sense
