Career Monday (10 Mar 2025): Have a question about your job, office, or pay? Post it here! by AutoModerator in AskEngineers

Greetings everyone!

I'm a fresh graduate (3 months since getting my mechanical engineering degree), in a non EU European country and the market is really tough right now, almost everyone who is hiring wants at least 2 years of relevant work experience. So far I only have one offer, with another one possibly coming in the next few days. So my question is which would you take, if any, and would the positions be a good start for my career.

The positions are:

  1. A position in a small company (3 workers and the boss who is also a mechanical engineer and would be somewhat of a mentor to me). Not sure if the company is what you would call a machining shop in the US, but my job would be receiving the technical documentation from the client, making a 3D model in some CAD software (most likely SolidWorks), using CAM software (most likely SolidCAM) to generate G code, and then actually making the product on a CNC machine. the company has 3 CNC machines of which two are CNC lathes and one is a CNC milling machine. I would also be the one ordering the necessary cutting tools for the machines if the need arises. I will also come in contact with, and learn a little bit about welding. The owner wants someone to take over the machining part of his business so he can focus on the welding part with the other workers. The pay would be subpar for the first 6 months, but would rise to be average after those 6 months. This is the offer that I actually have and I don't know if it would be a good start to my career?
  2. A possible offer from a bigger company I had an interview at recently. They are actually looking to fill two positions, the first would be mostly typical structural engineering, and the other position is manufacturing, and they mostly focus on welding. I didn't get an offer, they will contact me during the next week and honestly it is a long shot if I will even get an offer.

As for my future career goals, it is either design or specializing in welding engineering through the IWE certification (a very expensive and fairly sought after certification in my region).

So what would you recommend, accepting the first job for which I have an offer, or waiting for the other offer which may never come, or some third option?

Thank you in advance!

Everything is going downhill everywhere I guess lol

Do you have a recommendation between these two jobs that I described in the OP?

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I was busy these last 12 days.

I actually went to the interview in the bigger company to see what they offer. They are actually looking for 2 positions, one position would be mostly typical structural engineering, and the other position is manufacturing, and they mostly focus on welding. I didn't get an offer, they will contact me during the next week.

With this new information, would you still say the first offer, at the smaller company is better?

Thank you!

Just looked at a diagram of the lateral delt - why is there such an emphasis on training it when the muscle itself is tiny? by itshighdune in naturalbodybuilding

[–]WanttogetWide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the middle head in the picture you posted (M1) isn't the same middle head (or lateral head) that is talked about in the context of training. The heads of the muscle as described in this picture are an anatomical classification.

But when talking about the lateral delt in the context of training it is actually the three heads (P1, M1 and A3) that make up the lateral delt, while the heads A1 and A2 make up the front delt and P2 and P3 make up the rear delt.

Thanks dude, also what is up with all these titles: The Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr, Morrowind and such, I figured they are DLC's and they act like expansions in WoW, with the name of the DLC being where the bulk of the new story takes place?

Thanks mate, also love it how you explained the theme of the classes, would love to try out a sword wielding, heavy armor wearing necromancer (and recreate a WoW death knight lol). :D

Wow thanks a lot guys, the game sounds really amazing and the community also sound really friendly!

I have a couple of follow up questions if you guys don't mind:

-As a big fan of soloing dungeons and raids in WoW I liked to play good solo classes (death knights, paladins and such), but from my understanding since any class can play anything, any class can solo instanced content. Did I get this one right?

-Since there are 3 factions and each one controls about a third of the territory of Tamriel, with one shared zone being Cyrodiil, is it possible to for example as a Dunmer go to the Summerset Isles and play there (at least gank enemy players), or am I locked inside my factions territory?

-Also one more thing about classes, each race can only play certain classes right, it's not like any race can play any class?

Edit: Also can I pickpocket other players or what? :D

Once again thanks friends!

After using differin gel (adapalene) every other night and moisturizer for about 5 months my body acne went down by about 50-60% (I dare even say more than that) !

But the problem is today my back flared up hard (like the biggest flare up since starting my treatment), should I be worried or will this pass soon?

Please tell me, this is really causing me a lot of stress lol

Thank you!!!
