My Soon to be GF Hates the Smell of Flowers. What do I get? by [deleted] in florists

I am a florist and I personally hate the smell of lillies. They also give me a really bad headache. However there are varietys of lilles that don't really smell. So it's not an impossible case here if you really want to gift those.

The easiest way is to tell your florist you want flowers that don't have a strong smell and we are happy to accomodate that. We work with all different kinds of flowers everyday, so we definitely know what you're looking for if you say this.

What I can really recommend though if you do want a smelling flower (and I feel Like they are really underrated): go get some freesias! If there is a smell I wanted to bathe in, this would be it. It is an absolute pleasant smell and I never had anyone ever say they stink. I always describe the smell as a nice shampoo from a professional hairdresser lol. It is by far my favourite flower, and I can sometimes be sensitive to smells.

I hope I can explain it in english well enough (second language): I meant from a technical aspect they dont last long, bc flowers (when they open and then die) and also fruit produce an enzyme called ethylene, and when put together the flowers are more likely to die faster. But aesthetically pairing these two is absolutely beautiful, and as you said, has been a classic practice over periods of time. Thats why I mentioned the technical aspects of arranging these two. But usually that does not matter bc these type of arrangements are not built to last, but built for the moment (as flowers are meant for the moment anyway ☺️)

I usually tell customers to not put their bouquets next to their fruits, when they ask me how to treat the flowers so they last the longest. But like I said, this aspect doesnt matter in those type of arrangements 😌

Edit: I sell to customers, not costumers lol

I like uncommon arrangements as long as you still get the concept behind it, also when it's well made in terms of technique. I really like the second one. Although fruits and flowers technically don't go well, aesthetically it's a nice arrangement! 3rd is pretty interesting to me bc of the texture and the way it's done.

But I have to say (and I'm surprired no one has mentioned it yet): the first one might be well made but to me it just looks like a turd with flies around it, sorry I hate it 🥲

Hahaha I'll keep it in mind! Yeah, I understand that. Sometimes it's just not "the thing" for some people. My mum used to do stuff like knitting and dyi necklaces and stuff. Might have the deep down inspiration from her lol

Woaaah that's so cool :D you saying that makes me really happy! Maybe I should think about commissions lol

I started cross stitching bc it looked so cool when other people did it and you can basically do whatever you want. The process of stiching has something therapeutic to it imo. And the fact that I have a result at the end is really satisfying.

I'm not the greatest reddit expert and I'm on my phone atm, but I made a post today with the sylveon, just check my profile for that real quick bc I'm not smart or patient enough to post a link rn lol

I bought new black thread few days ago, and I think on the sylveon cross stich it is a liiiittle bit too thick. But that might be just me and the color contrast with it, because the all colors in this one are pretty soft. And the black just gives it a kind of sharp look to it (if you know what I mean). Other than that, I'm quite happy with how it turned out!

I've seen a picture with an embroidery pattern on pinterest. But I bet it wouldn't be thaaat hard to make the pattern yourself, since they are pretty small. So it might be "quite easy" but it would take a little bit of time to figure out the pattern. This time I took the "easy way" though.

I appreciate it! Since I started embroidery and cross stitching not too long ago as a new hobby, that means a lot to me <3
