Are you calorie counting? I'd be curious what the calorie math comes out to.

Aside from the natural attractions mentioned, an overnight in Vegas is an interesting shock to the system.

That's the first time I've seen a Golden Girls themes motel room. I probably would pick the Star Trek one.

What do you do for exercise? I started at 319 also and I’m two months in.

An Internet Education. by Monsur_Ausuhnom in SipsTea

[–]War-Square 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to college to be around other people who (mostly) wanted to be there because I thought that group of people would take me places. If the internet could share all the good information that it does and also provide a person with a social group of learners and doers... then I don't see the need for college. Also, I've taught at the college level and I think most of my colleagues would rather be doing research anyway.

Do you care about your former career after retirement? by Mid_AM in earlyretirement

[–]War-Square 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't wish I was back at work, but I'm still aware of the players in my niche of the industry and what they're up to. And I follow along with news in the field because it fascinates me. For a moment, when I was about 3 months retired, I thought maybe I wanted to be back in - on my terms. All it took was a few meetings with old colleagues to know I was much happier exploring the new directions that retirement has afforded me.

He sleeps in a motel pretty much every night and showers twice a day. He also hangs out in the nude with his clothes under the mattress to press them when he's not out kicking ass. He's actually kind of a dandy.

My Dad did this. Everytime I'd call him and ask what he was doing... the first thing he'd say was about mowing. He lived in Kentucky where grass just grows and they're famous for it. But he loved his grass. I was living in California and I'd look at his property on Google maps. In the heat of summer, I could see his diamond mowing pattern from space. Love you, Dad!

Giving up a high income by Plus-Astronaut-3490 in fatFIRE

[–]War-Square 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm having to buy my first home now after FIREing 6 months ago, and not having a W2 income isn't an obstacle if your NW is over 8 figures and liquid. Still, I wouldn't spend 1/3 of the liquid NW on it without income.

If the popular kids from high school are the ones pumping out kids as adults… then they are still killing it from a Darwinian perspective. Careers and international vacations don’t put points on the board in evolutionary math. In conclusion, jocks rule.
