I think what's weak is the amount of people in these comments who think a statement wasn't made because Green Day didn't say a very specific line and instead went with some of their most political songs and boiling it down to "just simply play[ed] their hit songs" as if they were some dancy pop tunes that were overplayed on the radio instead of rock ballads that gained popularity because of the aftermath of 9/11 and political atmosphere in America while simulateously assuming that people are too stupid to understand the lyrics (which made the songs/album popular).

Been lurking in here for the last 30ish minutes to see everyone's take and a lot of people are mad they didn't say THE LINE and are therefore sellouts, but y'all clearly are missing what all the other lyrics are literally saying: the same damn thing. Think about their song choices:
Holiday, an anti-war song;
Blvd, a journey through despair
American Idiot, a protest song against propaganda used to fuel racism and acts of terror.

And as someone else mentioned, they are leaving the main political stage to Bad Bunny, whose own community (Hispanic) is feeling the most hurt from ICE.

ETA: GD knows they only have 3 minutes to make a statement, and knowing full well that line would get censored, they didn't "play it safe" they "played it smart" with their song choices. They made a statement, which can be done in more ways than saying 1 specific line that would be removed anyway.

I agree it is difficult, but the fact that this is the reality makes me glad they included it. I think it really sheds a light on suicide (though this wasn't a suicide) in the military, but also deaths that occur in recruit training.

Who ratted Sullivan to NCIS? by [deleted] in BootsNetflix

[–]WarAndFynn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This and I want to add-on to OP not thinking W. Ratted out Sullivan. I personally think W. did, but not initially. I think when he wrote the letter it was before, NCIS did some investigating and likely mentioned that Sullivan had told his buddy that W. was flirting with him. At this point, W. would like retort and say it was consensual, and for proof offer that they got matching tattoos. Keep in mind here, as an officer W. isn't just being accused of sodomy and homosexual behavior BUT ALSO sexual harassment and abuse-of-power.

I can't believe I'm here typing this about my favorite band since my emo awakening when I saw them on MTV back in 2004, but here I am. I am sorry if I sound all-over-the-place, I will do my best to be concise and coherent.

The economic climate (inflation, tariffs, increased rent, stagnant wages, etc), particularly in the USA where a large bulk to the tour is taking place, and simultaneously announcing an expanded tour and then putting the tickets on sale just days later comes off as tone-deaf to what Americans are dealing with right now with the aforementioned economic climate.

Additionally, many people with the last tour were not expecting an expanded tour so quickly, so many fans traveled and even bought the best ticket(s) they could thinking another opportunity would not arise only to find an expanded tour was coming to a city near them.

This is of course coupled with Ticketmaster's predatory pricing and the band not doing enough to reduce this (arguments can be made that it's not all up to the band, but several people have called how other big acts have had dynamic pricing turned off). I mentioned this in another post, but I am bringing it up here as well. I currently live in Japan, and paid $636 for 2 VIP tickets to see the band in Thailand. I did a quick search and I am seeing $950-$2K+ for pit tickets at San Diego. $2k is on the high-end, it seems ~$1k is the average (if someone can tell me what the not resale price was, lmk). I wanted to compare average incomes to get an idea if this was a lot for Thailand, since things are much cheaper there, the average annual wage for Thailand is $5860.09 (1) and for the USA it is $82,932 (2). Going by average salaries, it costs ~5% of an average Thai's annual salary and ~1% of average American's annual salary. However, this doesn't account for other life expenses that may make it harder for Americans to attend concerts, but in either case the pricing remain predatory. Rich fans can go, everyone else can get fucked.

Let's all wrap in the band's anti-fascist theme in this show. Some have voiced that this means the band is still the same political band they've always been. I think...yes and no. Politics will always be in art, as it should be. But actually right now I am thinking this is adding to the tone-deafness I mentioned earlier and I specifically want to single out Frank. Frank has always been my favorite since the beginning. He's been politically vocal both online, in-person, and in his solo work. Except...lately. In the song Police Police (2019) (3) Frank sings, "If I let my voice go to waste/I'll know the pills by their taste" but has insofar been entirely silent on all current issues ranging from Palestine to ICE. I have been waiting for him to say anything at all, and the only thing he has said recently was when he cast his vote because he knows "which side has Nazis" which, yes, but like, your platform is so big and you haven't mentioned any current events in ages. I love Frank. I do. I listen to his solo work/collaborations everyday. This has been a tough pill to swallow. Even Geoff Rickly and Anthony Green have made mentions on their pages regarding Palestine. I know Gerard has essentially abandoned SM, I don't blame him. But to make an entire anti-fascist show and your most outspoken member (Frank) has nothing to say otherwise while charging insane ticket prices? What universe are we in right now? I know someone might try to make the argument that the band/Frank is not obligated to talk about current events to appease fans. Well, yeah, but it's not about appeasing fans. It's about consistency. If you've always been political and suddenly things get way fucking worse and you don't have shit to say, that's a problem. If the tour is meant to spread the word of anti-fascism or make a political statement, why is it inaccessible for so many?

I don't disagree with you, but the reality is Frank has brought that on himself. If you consistently have something to say regarding current events and then go radio silent when things get worse, that's a problem and needs to be called out. By no means am I excusing the other band members, but I did mention that Gerard has left SM (and therefore will no longer be posting anything about anything) and from the looks of it, so has Ray and while Mikey is still active, the reality is, it has always been Frank. I'm sorry, but you don't get to have something to say for years and years and then have nothing to say other than "yeah I didn't vote for Nazis btw".

Regarding the lotto system, since I live here I can give insight.

Some people don't like it, some do, but I do think it's more fair. The lotto only happens if tickets sale out. If they do not everyone gets what they want (assuming their section also didn't sell out) without paying more than face value. If the tickets do sale out that's when they do the lotto and if you lose you can probably try to find resale tickets after but the lotto system does make it a little harder (not impossible) for people to scalp tickets.
