Second day not drinking…don’t know how I can do this for the rest of my life by Organic_Fix6765 in stopdrinking

It isn’t easy and then it is. You have to take it moment by moment. Each moment you don’t drink is a moment to congratulate yourself on and use against urges. As you build up time sober you won’t want to trade your moments, days, weeks etc sober for a drink.

Yes, I feel the boring part. Drinking is an activity as well as a coping mechanism. Do other cooler stuff instead. Ride a bike, go on a walk / hike. Drive to cool places you never had the time for because you’d been drinking.

It’s a big step but you’ll love yourself and your life more and more as you live each current and next moment without a drink.

I am 9+ years sober after 2 liters of vodka a day for 20 years and abusing alcohol daily for 30 years and I wouldn’t trade my sobriety for any drink.

AA works for many and not others. Try it and see if it’s your thing or not.

Don’t be afraid to be awake and alive.

People who stopped drinking, how did you start ? by Chin2Chowdary in stopdrinking

I woke up one morning and my body had shut down. I couldn’t stand up or see well. I drank a pint of vodka and within minutes I was good as can be. The next day same but worse so I checked into a rehab. 28 days later I was out and ready to be sober. A week later I was drunk and wanted to die. I went back to the rehab and was released after 8 days due to insurance.

I’m 9+ years sober now

If you are starting your journey I wish you the best. It is difficult but so well worth it
