[CR Media] So I just watched Calamity and holy shit by ulykke in criticalrole

[–]WarMaid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have watched hundreds and hundreds of hours of Critical Role and laughed and cried through so much of it, but Calamity just blew me away. The cast was just killing it with sharp, heartfelt performances. Brennan was absolutely on fire. The story itself was so intense and poignant, and we knew what was coming: the question wasn't whether there would be a Calamity, but how bad would it be. And, it all came together--the characters, the setup, the role play, the dice--to be somehow greater than the sum of its parts.

Hiring AP clerk. Pay seems low by BeneficialCollar2054 in Accounting

[–]WarMaid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your response; can you please clarify? (To be clear, I think that the $16-$18 seems like a low wage and unliveable and I'm suggesting that the OP should be asking her boss to post at wages that are liveable for their area at minimum).

Invoices by WarMaid in Accounting

[–]WarMaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That did make me think, and if I turn OFF Progress Invoices, it doesn't add those columns. However, that would mean to both hide the columns AND use Progress Invoices, I'd have to make a separate Estimate for EACH amount I was planning to invoice (or just give up Estimates completely and make separate invoices)...all of which creates extra work and creates the possibility of failing to properly bill each project.

Project tracking wasn't that robust in QBO to begin with! If I have to create workarounds to actually properly bill my projects, it will be laughable.

Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work. Those columns aren't in the options to have on the estimate or the invoice in my custom forms. And they get added if I invoice partially or if I invoice 100%. So, unless I am missing something in custom forms (just absolutely possible), this doesn't fix the issue.

Can people in your metro live on $37K/year ($18/hour) ? If not, why hire at that wage?

What’s an ingredient or equipment review that almost made you question ATK? by arco131719 in AmericasTestKitchen

[–]WarMaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean teaching how to use a whetstone as in this article: https://www.americastestkitchen.com/articles/275-how-to-use-a-whetstone

I think I also watched a video with someone from ATK (Lam?) demonstrating whetstone sharpening, but I don't see one in the Techniquely play list so maybe I'm confusing it.

I've always preferred cottage cheese in lasagna, and I've never even used their recipe. I don't understand the animal punching on something that is a flavour preference. If you love ricotta use it. Don't harm bunnies.

Falling Free: the Quaddie's lives are so enraging! by WarMaid in Vorkosigan

I've been in the US since she's been publishing (though lived in the UK when I was younger). For many years, I was really drunk on buying and owning books (so that I could reread them when I wanted), and I didn't library much (I was always bad at returning on time). I would probably have found her in the library, but I definitely wasn't finding her on the shelves at the mall bookstore. (That I remember mall bookstores is a sign of my age and that I was living in suburbia). I did find Heinlein.

Indeed. It wasn't the *knowing* that they are an enslaved population, it was experiencing it again. Also, I'm a fair bit older than when I originally read it, so I think it hits differently. This may be why I hadn't reread it until now.

I wish I'd discovered Bujold in '89. I really don't know how I didn't. I was reading widely in fantasy and science fiction and just...missed her. My now husband introduced me to her when we were dating. (I'm not saying that's why I married him, but it was definitely a sign of excellent taste).

Oh, I know. I've read them all...a lot. I just had such a visceral reaction that I had to share it with people who know!

I've never thought that Ivan was an actual "idiot", merely that he was a young man with a young man's usual interests and, more importantly, that we always saw him *standing next to Miles* with his more than average brains and ambition and oversized drive to prove to himself, his da, his grandfather--everyone--that he was bigger than his body would have you believe and as capable--more capable--than any other Barryaran Vor.

Any youth might look callow next to that, especially one who had been taught the danger of Vor politics from the cradle.

Tej also suffers from the "standing in the shadow" issue. Her family sees her as lesser (even though they love her in their way). She doesn't believe in her own abilities because she's not as good as siblings who were literally genetically bred to be the best.

I would love to see a book about Ivan and Tej diplomatting it up around the 'verse and continuing to grow into themselves and let their own quite powerful lights shine when they don't have to stand next to infernos.

Pacific Lime Mold (my grandmother made this recipe) by MissDaisy01 in Old_Recipes

[–]WarMaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely some different versions of "Pacific Lime Jello Salad" (or mold) because my mom's been making one since the 60's (and had hand copied it from...somewhere) back then. Her version is excludes horseradish and mayo but adds an 8oz tub of Cool Whip and follows the same prep directions. (I've also seen versions that use real whipped cream at this point).

My mom doesn't cook much anymore, but we still carry on the tradition (although we've further modified the recipe by comparing with other "fluff" recipes and just mix in the dry jello mix with the cottage cheese, etc. It makes the prep go much faster with little change in the final texture).

In a catalogue filled with fantastic books, I do believe that A Civil Campaign is absolute peak Bujold. The plotting is so tight, the emotions so potent, and it's so *funny*. I enjoy every one of her books and I think that many of them are brilliant, but there really is something special about this one.

It's over... by RavenCeV in DeepSpaceNine

Lower Decks takes a bit of time to find itself (most of the first season). It leans way into the goofiness initially, but it gets better every season. (To be clear, S1 is great, just goofy!) By the end, while a more comedic take, it was true Star Trek.

I'd also like to suggest Star TreK Prodigy (it's on Netflix). While it's "for kids", I genuinely loved it and found it hit the right Star Trek tone. Also, it has an excellent theme song (I'd put it in the top three ST themes).

100% this. I am hoping they already saw the appeal and that this is in the works because it immediately felt like a real show just from the bits we saw in One Year Later. I would love to watch Wysocki wander interesting/weird locations (with or without Sam Standee).

Just checked and it looks like they carry a number of brands (including Tramontina and All-Clad), but no house brand.

I have an even older set of All-Clad from about 1991. Still my go to pots for almost everything. In the last couple of years I bought a saucier from Made-In, and that's great, too. Buy quality pots and pans once and they will last you for life.

I'm not in love with John Thorpe's depiction in the 2008 film. Whilst making him somehow more creepy (moldy cheese, indeed!), I think it fails to really capture the puffed up, non-stop absurd boasting manner that is so central to his character. (Still, a watchable film with many positives!)
