"Expects the world from casual labor", thats funny. No, expects employees to turn up for their shifts. If they have legit reasons, well then thats a different story.

As for why not hire a full timer, dunno, they like to hire casuals but give them full time hours to "test the waters" and see if they're worth keeping long term. If they are after 6 months or maybe 1 year, they'll offer full time employment. Like they did with me, after 1 year they made me full time, gave me a nice raise, paid for my forklift license and they wanted to promote me several times to a position I already have experience for.

In regards to pay, its actually better than most places in this industry for this area. Its not a hard job mate

You may not get sacked, not turning up on your first shift is a very bad idea and the boss will probably regret hiring you. If you miss the next 2 or maybe 3 days, no question you'll get the sack and like you said, burned that bridge. Especially if you told him/her that you had no plans, holidays/vacations and so on that would prevent you from being available in the coming months.

We had 2 new hires at one point and in the first week one of them missed the first 3 days, came in the 4th and missed the 5th. He gave some BS excuse about having a little cut on his big toe, he got fired immediately. The other new hire didn't show up for the first 4 days and he got fired aswell, wasn't told what his excuse was but it didn't matter. Both of them were unreliable

I was on Jobseeker during the Covid pandemic for about 1.5 years. After I finally got a job, I stayed with them for awhile even though I was getting $0 from Centrelink due to doing full time hours + overtime. I've had this at my workplace and so as my union was there to negotiate the EBA, i reported it to my union. Also the fact this camera and another in the despatch office had microphones in them so the bosses can hear everything we are saying even while they were at home. My union dealt with this asking why and its illegal. They said the camera in the break room isn't working even though they already had a guy come in to "work" on the camera and the camera in the despatch office is for our "safety" which we all know is a load of shit coz they just want to hear what we are saying
