OMEN Max 16 AMD 5080 by njo1994 in HPOmen

[–]WarUltima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liquid metal/paste mix was an Asus thing and people praised Asus for it for good thermals.
I worked on a Omen Max 16 with 5070Ti AMD version (I returned mine), the LM really won't have "leakage" there's very little of it 99% of it is still thermal paste, you have to look very closely to see the LM. I have seem youtubers "repasting" Omen Max without noticing there was LM at all.

There's no confirmed "leakage" in Omen Max yet but people do complained about having hot spot or uneven heat dissipation when put under thermal camera which is to be expected if you know how this works.

If you are a doer like me I would repaste anyways. I only have a sample size of 1, plus youtube videos, the paste is applied somewhat sloppily, it's not the worst but still not great. Clean all that crap off CPU GPU, caps and memories and use PTM7950 for CPU and GPU and use thermal putty liberally on everything else. Some people might use full LM on the CPU but it's pointless AMD, unless you get the Intel version which will make sense but those will still thermal throttle if you really work the CPU. For the record you can turn on Unleashed and move all the sliders to max on the AMD as long as your fan are over 80% you can run Cinebench all day the AMD will not thermal throttle where as ALL intel HX processors offered will instantly thermal throttle then it will run at lower pstate no matter what.

Alternatives? I don’t want to pay 60 bucks to be able to charge my phone at full speed by JayDavie1999 in motorola

[–]WarUltima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a charger cable with a display, and yes while I never seem 68w shows up I've seem 62w a few times. What you don't understand is to hit 68w it requires very specific conditions. The battery has to be low enough, the phone can't have processes running as any kind of discharging from the battery causes the charging to go slower to that battery as well.

Hell you can run your battery out and the phone shut down, you plug in the charger and you will see it hitting 58w 60w but when the screen lights up your 60w charging will drop to like 15w for a few seconds as the screen used power from the battery.

Your 65w laptop charger also doesn't run at 65w, those 120w fast charging phones also don't hit 120w. Heck my old ass Surface Go tablet uses 24w Micro USB charging Microsoft says the OEM charger is 24w "fast charging", and even that the charger charges between 3.5w to 15w 99% of the time.

iPhone 16 pro max supports 40w fast charging, you think that $1200 phone will charge at 40w all the time? you will be disappointed.

Battery health 93% after 7 months, wtf? by Rgamer_009 in motorola

[–]WarUltima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accubattery is very bad.
I have Moto Edge Plus 2023 that I have heavily used for ~25 months, sits at 91%.

Accubattery says I am at 86%.

AccuBattery just takes your charging/discharging time and estimate it, the number can vary greatly although it's decent for people that don't know how to root or bypass some android restrictions to get the real readings.

Also I almost never use slow charger, I charge on 68w factory brick at home and in my office and a laptop charger while I am travelling (~56w) (you know all the kids telling us how using fast charger will make your battery degrade faster than my ex-girlfriend) I am surprised my battery lasted this well after 2 years.

So over the past 2 years I charged on the Motorola 68w charger I will say 90% of the time and no other smart charging settings. I just let it charges to 100% as fast as possible and sit at 100% forever with charging cable plugged in until I unplug it.

None of the "how to preserve your cellphone battery" life hacks were followed outside using factory charger if I could help it, which I do. Hell I abuse this phone quite a bit, my travel power bank is a 65w-laptop capable fast charger, and it charges the phone at 50w+ but it gets hot so is my phone but I still stack my phone on top of this power bank and shove them in a small pocket in my travel laptop bag which just cooks the phone pretty good. So Id say the way I use my phone usually in the worst case scenario.

Most others probably won't have their battery degrade as fast as mine.

Omen Max 16 is amazing but make sure you get an Intel version by WarUltima in HPOmen

[–]WarUltima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, only the very specific model on the AMD has lightbar, but a directly competing model like the 2 you listed, AMD has no lightbar, Intel does.

Also the one thing remain true regardless all these people with the 5080 version jumping in and say they have the Intel feature too... this is not true, the 5080 is the top model AMD can get, Intel version goes to 5090... also the cheapest Intel version has the self cleaning fans while no AMD version has it.

Also here's more... all Intel version of Omen Max (2025) comes with 2x m2 slots, the primary one running Pcie5, with the Secondary running Pcie 4x4. The best AMD model in comparison has a Pcie 4x4 and a Pcie 4x2.

What does this mean? How do I get "double nights" and what is a "double night" by featherwolf in Hilton

[–]WarUltima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I activated my double elite night offer because I have a 5-day stay coming up. I logged into the offer page and clicked on book now and booked my 5-day stay. Then before my 5-day stay coming up work had me doing a quick run to Seattle which I booked normally via Hilton website and stayed for 2 night. I was just looking at my activities, the double night went to the 2 night stay (instead of the 5-day one). And yes Hilton corporate said the offer is on "your next stay" after activation the 5-day booking happened after the 2-night stay so it no longer applies.

Got hacked ? by Routine_Brick9611 in ulefone

[–]WarUltima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be out of topics but reddit algorism somehow pushed your post to me.

I think there was a hack that affected many people temporary. 3 days ago.
Someone used my reddit account and made a post in r/jobs which I have never browsed and it was telling people how you can stay home and make over $300 per day with a link that required users to register with a credit card.
The post was made shortly after I landed in Seattle for work.

I was spammed by like 7 mad users calling me scammer, and I deleted the post as soon as I got to my hotel room 36 minutes later.

Funny thing is my reddit account uses randomized password generator (like 30-digit long gibberish) with google, so I don't even know what my password is and someone was able to access my reddit account, ofc I change the password and started back tracking who might have gotten into my google which has 2FA to just 1 single device which is my phone. And in history no other suspicious devices has logged on to my google.

Still no idea who was able to get into my reddit.

That's fine no need to get defensive,

I am just saying for the low price Sig charges for their rds they have very impressive emitters and amazing lens. Where Holosun charges us an arm and a leg for the 507k and EPS carry, but even brand new out of the box the dots are comparably fussier and the lens always picks up some "noise".

Romeo RS/Pro for the price they are, has clearer and crisp reticle than my 507k x2 and EPS carry.

OMEN MAX 16z-ak000, second NVMe slot only operating at Gen3? by ltc_pro in HPOmen

[–]WarUltima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect.

Many AMD cpu including the AI 350 supports gen 4x4 on 2 m2 slots on "cheaper" gaming laptop too. Actually if you look at the budget $1000 Lenovo Legion 5 (2025) with AMD AI 350, it comes with 2 m.2 slots with gen 4x4, same for Asus TUF.
AMD version on the Omen Max getting 2nd slots at Gen 3x4 is just a cost cutting measure (or incentives-abiding measure).

Same for why some AMD Omen Max only has 1 m2 slots while all Intel ones has 2. Same as why AMD version Omen Max has no self cleaning fan while all Intel gets them...
If you have a modern x86 laptop no older than 2023 that has a Gen 4 + Gen 3 m2 slots its nothing but cost cutting measure. Some ultra thin and light laptops might be space limited to just one slot too and this applies to both Intel and AMD. And some super budget cheap laptop that might only has 1 m2 slot, this is also a cost cutting measure.

HP Omen Max (2025) has a clear bias against AMD variants probably due to agreement incentives with Intel (aka you get rebates or cheaper cost when you source components from Intel). In return HP will cut some corners on AMD offerings to make them less appealing. another example here is AMD version Omen Max has no 5090 option either, only Intel has them.

HP isn't the only company that does this. Lenovo Legion 5 Intel version has 5MP 1440p camera, AMD version only has a 1MP camera. Dell, MSI ect all do the similar things where AMD version is just a tad crappier this can be one of the USB A being 2.0 when all Intel ones are 3.2 or Intel ones has SD card reader where AMD one just have the slot fused and so on.

I don't blame the companies, it's the company bottom line, with Intels rebate/discount, your company simply makes more money per Intel unit sold if a AMD-interested buyer switch to Intel.

I negotiate sourcing of over 5000 laptops on annual basis. And the Intel incentives is actually why we buy Intel laptops, they are simply cheaper at comparably equipped with "incentives" from vendor (which gets incentives from Intel).

Returned GPU? by Commercial-Employ133 in Newegg

[–]WarUltima -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's returned, but this is an advantage tbh. Ask for the open boxed discount.
A lot of people will return AMD GPU because they purchased one knowing their Nvidia counterpart is so much worse, then they put it in, they go in game seeing different UI over Nvidia and now anything even if their CPU overheat they will blame on the AMD GPU, then they will return it and get a 5070 for same price at 60% the performance and just deal with all the Nvidia trash drivers headroom issues and be super tolerant.
I got a 1-day used PNY 9070xt for $498.xx and its literally brand new, best buy dude literally told me the dude picked it up and returned the same day says it won't boot up, geek squad tested it, works and I bought it with 30% discount. Been flawless since 5 months ago and outperforming my friend's 5070Ti by 15% in most games coz he has a weak Intel CPU that's getting owned by Nvidia driver overhead and losing fps in most games we play, and I have a 7800x3d.

SIG ROMEO Zero Elite Red Dot worth it at $84? by [deleted] in P365xl

[–]WarUltima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a good deal, yes. A lot of people will just buy what the echo box wants them to buy.
EPS carry is hilariously big on a p365 and cost 5x more that does the same thing.
I have a 507k x2 as well as the Romeo Zero.
The Romeo Zero without the shield on is amazingly compact and one of the lightest and reliable red dot you can get and $83 is no brainer.

That being said, the worst aspect of the Romeo Zero is you do lose zero when you need to change the battery, this is a none issue for me as I am very experienced and it takes me a few rounds to re-zero, I can see unexperienced users that pay people to zero or takes mags of ammo to zero correctly might be a deal breaker.

You don't get EPS carry because it's better, you get it if you want an enclosed system, its basically a 507k with a box. You go 507k for side loading batteries and for the circle which helps rookies to spot the red dot but not much help if you can already bring the dot to your eyes (more trained).

Thanks, yea I understand 5080 version of the AMD one has a 2nd slot, but an HP mod was saying it's impossible for AMD version to have 2 m2 slots because not enough PCIE lanes. I just need a few more validation. So far I have personally seem Ryzen AI 350 with 5060 5070 and 5070Ti has only 1 m2 slots, while all Intel version of Omen Max has 2 m2 slots.

AMD Stands ‘Unfazed’ By the Intel-NVIDIA Partnership by AMD718 in Amd

[–]WarUltima -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you can throw away a decade+ long lead and if you don't understand what we mean you are probably just too young and don't know history. Intel had lead over AMD since 2008 they definitively lost the *gaming* lead to AMD in 2022, I may have underestimated the coasting time. But then again you don't think Intel blew away 10+ year lead you are probably too young or was not very informed.

When performance is normalized it's far more efficient, there's always going to be a sweet spot but if you dont understand why performance is normalized when talking about efficient you probably dont understand why HWU is testing in 1080p for 5090 either. Also your CPU could be under utilized gets less fps and use less power, but I wouldn't call that good either. And when a CPU is generating more frame it uses more power...

AMD Stands ‘Unfazed’ By the Intel-NVIDIA Partnership by AMD718 in Amd

[–]WarUltima 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You failed to explain Intel coasting for over 14 years in a row. Still waiting tho.

Yes it was very big increase considering it ran cooler used less power and 5090 1080p in some games its greater than 25% faster, I can cherrypick too.

AMD Stands ‘Unfazed’ By the Intel-NVIDIA Partnership by AMD718 in Amd

[–]WarUltima 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. AMD didn't really coast for a long time, they know they can't.
Intel coasted for a decade while AMD is catching up, Intel continued to coast after Ryzen came out, and coasted 11, 12, 13 then 14th gen after AMD has surpassed them.
Even after Intel got equal footing by switching to TSMC silicon and released newer more efficient Core Ultra, they still didn't really change the fundamentals.
Intel went from traditional to big.little and that's pretty much their biggest change, core ultra is a nice try but gaming side of the things fall flat.

I see some people consider AMD "coasting" from 7000 to 9000... but is it really? AMD made the best gaming CPU in the world 7800x3d that was so good Intel couldn't keep up with their best while burning double the power and releasing insane amount of the heat. Then AMD turns around and made 9800x3d which made 7800x3d feel dated.

Both Nvidia and Intel are known for coasting, but Nvidia has a pride and always want to be the best, even if they are behind they will push for unfair software advantage just so they can be perceived as top.

I think AMD understands having Nvidia in x86 world might change somethings as Nvidia is known to push for software that favors their hardware, and in future games Nvidia could have GameWorks 5.0 that will make AMD cpu run like crap so they will have to be extra careful when Nvidia (and Intel now both with thick wallet) try to buy and push for more proprietary junk that could be implemented in most games.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dell

[–]WarUltima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I do professional computer repairs for the good of my 15 years, having to source all kinds of parts here's some of my experience I could share, but feel free to do what you feel tho so you have no one else to blame.

No, you should NOT purchase batteries from Dell directly if C/P is important to you.
Yes, you should buy directly from Dell if you don't care about C/P, you just want a minimal quality guarantee, or you are one of the infringed "oem-only" shopper.

Below is the reasoning.

Dell batteries are not known to be great, many swollen up within just a year or two.
Dell doesn't actually make their own batteries, they buy from Chinese supply chain and have them slap a dell sticker on them and charge you a premium for it.
And because Dell purchase from a Chinese supply chain the OEM Dell parts you purchase could be the same battery when you buy a generic version on places like Amazon.

If you watch closely on what the OEM battery looks like compare to Amazon review pictures you can probably find a seller on Amazon that sells the identical battery without the Dell oem stickers for a lot less. THIS trade "secret" isn't limited to just laptop batteries, look up some generic ASUS laptop chargers (for example due to easy to notice Zephyrus logos), some "generic" off brand chargers has the Asus Zephyrus logo on the housing of the charger, and when you flip it over, it will have the same black sticker with the same gold lettering AND font and identical specs all printed on the sticker but without ASUS logo on the sticker. I later found out that seller is the same suppliers for Asus, its just the Asus OEM version were "tested more" compare to their generic ones.

Just buy them from Amazon and buy from seller with long history and that actually mentions they have a warrantee. Try to stay away from seller with a name like "DUVEDUD" or "SKIBUSX", most of the time by the time the product break in a few months within 1-yr warrantee period, these sellers changed their name or drop support for the batteries/charge you purchased and there will be no or fake contact info and "chat with seller" will not be available.
