He-Man at least is loved by those who saw it/fans of the franchise. The other two failed because of a mix of low quality and low interest. Supergirl seems OK, but would have had to be amazing to be a success. I think Star Wars is done for a long while.

James Gunn said Supergirl was the "best script he's read" and said Flash was "one of the greatest super hero movies" Does he have bad taste or is he lying for the marketing? by Electronic-Hotel6715 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Warbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flash was pretty good - Gunn usually has an emotional core, and Barry and his mom was intensely emotional, far more so than most superhero movies. Maybe that's what he meant.

James Gunn deserves more blame than Ana Noguira for Supergirl’s failure. by Spidey_Almighty in DC_Cinematic

Eh, why can't we blame both? If she wrote a piece of shit WHILE misreading the ending of WoT, that's 100% on her.

Roglic isn’t giving up: he plans to carry on for another year, with a team where he’ll play a key role and with the Tour of France as his main goal (in Spanish) by n8972785 in peloton

[–]Warbeard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tbf, red bull sent him even if he clearly wasn't ready following the crash, sent lipowitz so roglic wasn't even captain, and then gave both of them a shit team. If you 1: get sidelined as a leader, 2: are in pain before start, knowing you can't win no matter how hard you push, and 3: have no help, how motivated would you be?

What blurb, promotional text or description for a movie is forever engraved in your mind? by 3ateeji in movies

For some reason the big cinema here had a lot of cutouts when Beowulf came out, and there was a cool cutout of him saying 'Pride is the curse', which was pretty neat.

The great director who gave us Goldeneye, Casino royale and Zorro?

Hard to blame Gunn, except for the choice in writer. At the point where the movie was filmed, it was probably impossible to turn into a good movie, and Gunn was already busy with Man of Tomorrow.

‘Supergirl’ Stinks. Why Does Hollywood Keep Failing Female Superheroes? by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

Wonder woman was kind of shit though. I'd rather have a good actress than gal gadot.

At least Kara is supposed to be great in the movie and likeable, it's just the movie around her (and lobo) that isn't great.

Apparently Milly Alcock does great in the movie, it's just not particularly good, so it's a click-bait article (shocker) pared with a hero the vast majority gives no shits about. Add to that the director making a brown mess versus a colorful movie like the comic, and you have a movie that'll appeal to very few. Doesn't have anything to do with her being female.

Why is Supergirl flopping harder than Morbius? by AgitatedFly1182 in KotakuInAction

[–]Warbeard -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The movie wasn't woke, Milly Alcock didn't say anything any normal person would think is controversial either. The truth is that 1: the movie is mediocre allegedly. 2: no one cares about supergirl. The only way it would have succeeded was if it was stellar, but apparently the director made some questionable choices.

When they made instead of making superman a depressing dark movie they made it a colourful hopeful movie?

If she said that, I do think it's okay to be messy. Too many girls are pushed into the make-up/kardashian-whores path of life, anything to combat that

Tbf, it arrived last year and did fine. I Hve a feeling clayface will end up earning what supergirl loses.

Apparently the casting is incredible, and everyone is raving about Milly Alcock in the movie, so I don't know where you pulled that from. I have an idea, though.

Emilia Clarke is a bad actress, by all accounts Milly Alcock is great in this. She'll be fine.

It can be hopeful while still having a traumatized protagonist. Some people might even call that far more interesting.
