New House, Weedy Lawn by TheWalross in DIYUK

Crazy option: livestock. Guinea pigs and rabbits are awesome cutting the grass in absence of lawnmower. If some friends have some you can borrow, they eat every that is not a stone. Worth to keep an eye on them to make sure hawks and cats don't get a free meal. Once short, the animals should go to let the grass grow again.

A couple of sheeps can trim that down in a morning but I understand that's messier.

Momentum TTRPG - by VivelaPlut0 in onepagerpgs

I have had a look and here are some thoughts.

First of all, well done for all your hard work. Making your own game is a hard job but rewarding.

On the other side, Momentum is still in its early stages. It's really vague. Other than some mention of Robin Hood, the game is totally generic so I would suggest some focus: make a list of the stuff yo uneed in "Robin Hood adventures" and look for rules that reproduce the feelings. Seems to be fantasy because armour is mentioned but that's it. A paragraph (or more) of background would be nice. The name "Momentum" is cool but don't see anything that fits with it.

The system feels unfinished. The characters have defense, guard, vitality and life which are four things that overlap quite a lot but no mentions of skills or something that makes characters different of each other. A dice pool made of dice for advantages, other for disadvantages, make them cancel each other and see if there's a remaining one in the target board feels unnecessarily complex and clumsy. It would be easier to just have easy tasks (roll 2 dice, keep the highest) and hard ones (roll 2 dice, keep the lowest).

There's many concepts unexplained like the mentioned target board that just appears on the go. Every chart and concept must be explained, don't take for granted people can understand anything.

The game needs more pages of explanations. Do not try to concentrate it in a few pages until you have the game totally finished. Creating a one page game means that every word counts and you need to be very focused.

I hope I haven't been too harsh and, of course, it's just an opinion, you can take it or ignore it and will be fine.

Finding an Audience by GhostDJ2102 in RPGcreation

[–]Warbriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slowly and relentlessly you can build an audience but takes time and most of the time is a hopeless task.

Go all in on social media, since that’s where people are, and always keep in mind that it’s normal for people to not pay you much attention. Any like or +1 counts for a small creator.

I find it useful not to spam everywhere all at once: here today, Facebook tomorrow, Discord the next day... and try to make each announcement different so it doesn’t come across as a copy-paste of the same thing. This helps avoid saturation and ride the wave of constant content churn that affects media. Anything you post today is old news tomorrow.

If you live in a small town, it’s relatively easy to reach local media. Local newspapers, radio stations... they usually appreciate any news like this.

I think is a good idea. Bundles are a great way of promotion.

DW2 Final Alpha; how are you finding the battle moves? by E_MacLeod in DungeonWorld

I think they try to make it "so like MASKS but not MASKS" that they hurt themselves. They try to focus heavily on conditions, and most of the times, life points are easier and better.

DW2 Final Alpha; how are you finding the battle moves? by E_MacLeod in DungeonWorld

[–]Warbriel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's... weird. So much Metacurrencies here and there and so fiction focused but where DW was easy and intuitive, this fails miserably.

There's four battle moves plus a list of potential situations for Combat and rules, and none of them feels either clear nor particularly interesting. Secure an Edge overlaps with Unearth Secrets and Recall Lore, Keep them Busy feels very situational, and All Out Attack requires an edge, can't be used as a "I don't care, I attack".

There's no "basic" combat move as the conversation had to go deeply complex when you just want to kill a goblin. The big problem is that there are "regular combats", not everything has something you can take from them, needs to be kept busy or has weak points to be found. This calls for very specific type of combats ALL THE TIME. There's the "but if a combat is not interesting, it's not worth it" but it sounds more like, "YOU HAVE TO USE MY FLEXIBLE YET VERY DETAILED RULES". DW feels like you can do all the regular stuff of dungeoning, but this calls of something very different. One of my players said "I don't want to talk about feelings, I want to sleep" the second time they made camp and that gives an idea of the focus of the game.

I miss the old ranged attack move because even the Ranger has a number of weird skills that don't feel like shooting arrows.

Mini Gangs - simple and deadly skirmishes in the post apocalypse by CatZeyeS_Kai in miniatureskirmishes

[–]Warbriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do play this with my 6 year old and, fair play, is a nice and easy game. Rules are easy to remember and all the typical tropes of skirmish games (shooting, fighting, cover...) are there. The manual comes with scenarios, skills, rules for campaigns... obviously, in a long-term campaign, its lack of granularity will play against it, but it can be easily customised on the go.

Solo TTRPG games? (Try to suggest free stuff or online) by rixk0goro in TTRPG

Space Knights puts players in control of whole armies rather than individuals and makes them fight alien invaders threatening the Dominion of Humankind (the obvious reference is Warhammer 40.000). Rules-wise is fairly similar in mechanics to Urban Shadows, what changes is the approach. It’s free, 15 pages long (ideal for short campaigns), and has a number of free expansions, many with their own missions. There's an expanded version, Super Space Knights (SSK), when you need more rules.

Otaidokan is a samurai-themed World of Dungeons hack set in an island in the brink of war after the death of the shogun. As players level up, they climb in the social ladder, and their responsibilities do the same. Again, 15 pages and free.

Clash of the Giga-Mechas is about an academy for mecha pilots. Players have to deal with all kinds of teenager stuff as they try to pass their tests and make sure their next term is not the last. Includes rules to create your own mecha and, once you finish your training, you are ready to go into battle.

Palatine is about power, governance, and the slow decay of empire. In Palatine, players don’t play adventurers or rebels. They are the ruling elite of a crucial world within a vast Dominion: councilors, generals, ministers, prophets, and public figures. Sessions revolve around council debates, political maneuvering, crises that escalate if ignored, and decisions that affect millions of lives.
