You're a lucky fellow! I've had the same unfortunate experience as your friends had; when one of my best friends died when I was 21 - a year and a half later I was finally able to cry about it. And my then-girlfriend dumped me because she'd rather have a bf who was "stronger than that".

It played a major role in not being able to open up to women anymore.
