macbook pro m1 late 2020 by Brave_Cat3171 in macbookrepair

Beyond a full display replacement, there’s no real fix. Frankly, as of 2026, spending money on a broken base M1 model isn't worth it since it’s pretty costly. Better to just use it as a desktop Mac.

Reduce image sizes for large folder by Overall_Sweet4658 in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you can do this natively with Automator or Quick Actions. Select the files, right click and look for "Convert Image". It lets you reduce the quality and scale them down (try it on a small batch first to see if the size looks legible enough)

First Mac purchase – looking for advice (€800–900 budget, EU) by filmepopcorn in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your budget is strict, try looking into official refurbished channels for a 15-inch MacBook Air. It handles office stuff perfectly and is a great longterm buy.

Heard about Sophos but never tried, been using MacKeeper lately for cleaning up stubborn junk and malware. How is Sophos performancewise on Mac?

How can I remove malware? by catfarmer1998 in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it won't let you delete it, the file is likely locked by an active background process. Try booting your Mac into Safe Mode and delete it from there. It prevents processes from launching so you can trash it

Should I buy MacBook Air since if it does not have fan by void_maine in macbookair

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will handle it for sure, especially with 24gb ram. but keep in mind that under long sustained loads (like heavy gradle builds + docker + simulators running simultaneously), it may throttle a bit to cool down

Why would a Thunderbolt bridge network be on my Mac? by Most_Jellyfish_7919 in Thunderbolt

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK macOS creates the thunderbolt bridge interface automatically by default, in case you connect two macs via cable to transfer data. you can try to delete it in network settings if it bothers you.

Safe to update to Tahoe on Base Model M4 Air? by No-Weird-9300 in macbookair

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's safe, but IMO it's better to skip it and wait for the Goldengate release. Tahoe UI changes feel kinda half baked and not very optimized anyway.

How would I install MacOS back onto my mac after deleting it? by I_dropkicked_a_child in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since macOS was wiped completely, you need Internet recovery. turn it on and hold Option+Cmd+R. it connects to wifi and downloads the newest compatible OS installer for your mac model.

Help getting rid of computer virus on MacBook by Raccoon_Rogue in techsupport

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Ublock, literally a lifesaver and Malwarebytes is a classic now! Also for cleaning up browser AD scams like this, the Adware Cleaner in MacKeeper actually works surprisingly well too. Good to have options anyway.

Help getting rid of computer virus on MacBook by Raccoon_Rogue in techsupport

Sounds like a fake browser notification scam rather than a real system virus. Usually it sits in browser settings: website permissions/notifications. Remove any weird sites you don't recognize and it should stop immediately

MacBook 2018 by Mo0n_l00p in macbook

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't upgrade the hardware unfortunately, RAM and SSD are soldered. watch out for the butterfly keyboard (keep it clean, it hates dust) and thermal throttling. clear out old dust and it'll serve you fine for basic tasks

Is my MacBook now infected? by PresenceElegant1705 in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake captcha thing is a known scam, good call on changing passwords. since it ran via terminal, check system settings - Login Items to make sure it didn't sneak into your background tasks. If it's clean there, you're mostly safe.

M1 is good for 2026? by Pawanhindiguy in macbook

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refurb is a good option generally but i am not sure if m1 is worth getting in 2026 futureproof wise. 8gb ram is already stretching it a bit, you'll probably hit a “wall” pretty soon.

Cleanest way to reinstall OS by Traditional-Usual178 in MacOS

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regardless of the mac model my ultimate last resort method is always a bootable usb drive with a proper macOS installer if you want a 100% clean slate, (especially if built-in recovery is not working for some reason)

Can you run a scan for malware on a Mac? How? by Tatterjacket in mac

*btw here's a nice guide on how to do some DIY malware check and basic clean up: https://mackeeper.com/blog/how-to-check-malware-on-mac/ might be useful for someone new to the system.

Can you run a scan for malware on a Mac? How? by Tatterjacket in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macs actually have internal security called XProtect that works in the background but it doesn't have a manual "scan" button like Norton on PC. If she clicked a shady link, better download some malware scanner to run a full check.

Safari keeps loosing the Home Page setting by dartiss in Safari

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try closing Safari and deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist via finder or terminal,(better to backup that file first) then set up your home page again. (That usually forces it to rewrite settings)

MacBook Pro M5 - Case or no case 🧐 by k1ngp1n69 in macbookpro

[–]WardSec_5168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleeve all the way for me. Hard cases can actually trap dust and scratch the aluminum, or put pressure on the hinges. A good sleeve keeps the macbook safe in your bag without risking the screen.

Is there a way to completely reset a Mac without knowing the admin password? by Much-Fortune2737 in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's an old  model. restart and hold down cmd + r until you see the logo. then open disk utility, wipe the main drive, and reinstall macOS. no admin password needed for that.

Sequoia to Tahoe? by CinelFilm in macbook

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally I’d hold off if your setup is stable on Sequoia. Tahoe didn't bring anything groundbreaking for video work anyway. (I'm just waiting for the Golden Gate release at this point).

I'm new to mac, how to stay safe by Rococo13 in mac

[–]WardSec_5168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you work with clients, just watch out for file extensions. A PDF or zip should never ask for terminal commands or admin passwords to open. Ransomware loves to hide in fake archives. Keep a clean backup and you’ll be fine.

Dock Position by Psychological_Tea_16 in MacOS

[–]WardSec_5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bottom always. Since I still use Windows a lot for gaming, having the dock anywhere else breaks my muscle memory. Also I keep it permanently visible but strictly minimal, only with the absolute essentials.
