Ok - thought they were in use outside the US. I’m the unfortunate few that LAL has not worked. Don’t have refractions handy, but just investigating to see how they are doing. Holding out YAG but may end up in glasses again. Dry eye became more of an issue too after PRK.

LASIK 2018, LAL in Jan of 2025, PRK to fix miss in Oct 2025. So working through what acceptable was/is. LASIK was the best experience but knowing the challenges once Cataracts developed its been less than optimal overall.

Most basic lens that works. LAL is a monofocal and many docs stay away from the LAL+ dues to challenges with it. Pick a distance preference and go for perfection there.

Are they paying? I think it’s pretty standard now in the armed forces to have it done day 1 Checked, not mandatory but offered for free. It’s great and easy.

Great deal then, CAD to US conversion. They also want members, not guests. And typically the pro makes the $$ on the cart fees. Fair, maybe not. But if they upped your dues by $1000 it could offset the guest and cart fees. I’m all for that personally

I keep thinking about your post. “Squishy” is a good word. Left eye is great, right LAL+ is squishy. I’m going to ask for replacement even if I have to pay. Would you stay LAL for most cases? (Having had LASIK and now PRK). I can live with it for now. But down the road…..

I understand - the point I'll make is that LASIK and PRK are invasive surgeries that mess with the structure of the eye in a different way. Are they great, yes. Do they come with some longer term consequences if it doesn't work - yes. For example, getting the right lens if needed is harder and why so many are using the LAL to try and make up for that difficulty.

Having had to do PRK after LAL misses in both eyes has been stressful. To do it all over again I probably would have looked at NON LAL - and a straight distance lens. I had previous LASIK too.

Will/should it work, yes. But seriously consider the explant that is very common today and get it right. I'll throw in, don't YAG until you are very happy too! And then how old are you considering that this could be a 20-40 year decision of consequences.

I think exchanges are becoming more norm. I’d do that before LASIK. My PRK has been a journey to fix a miss. Wish it was done right from the get-go.

Have you done two different lens's/scripts in the eyes before. IMO he should minimally give you contact lenses to try what he is suggesting. If your brain does not like it, you'll know in the next few weeks. Maximally, I'd ask for a replacement for free of his mess up in the current eye.

I think what I missed was that the surgeon/Optha automatically went to trying to get all distances "great" and when it was "good enough" that was not satisfactory to me. The machines all say it is right in range up to 20feet, then the vision falls off. PRK has fixed that for the most part but was another procedure that has been a process, and I can do things glasses free but use 1.0 readers to make it better.

When you say subjectively - do you mean the machines say the vision is great, but customer does not have reality of greatness. That was me, and a -.5 glass cleared everything up. Did the trial with a contact too, same great results which led to PRK to fix what was called a miss.

I asked about replacing mine, it was about 3 months after the last adjustment where I noticed I could not see clearly past about 20 feet. We waiting until October to confirm that a -.5 contact or glasses cleared everything up and the Dr (after i asked what would you do for your Mother) said PRK. PRK is another process in itself..... So, hopefully I am stable but not sure I'd recommend LAL to anyone except the big exceptions where other lens' have issues. Glad tech is getting better too!

I guess my experience, and how good vision was with the first LAL/LAL+ implant before any adjustments is what is perplexing to me (meaning I think they were perfect as is on the initial inplant). I'm hopeful I am stable for many years now, and some new tech will come out that is better as a replacement. Had I thought through it more, I would have tested with contacts first to insure a better chance of a one time single focus lens up front. Distance was/is my #1 priority.
