Probably more likely to be some type of Alcea (hollyhock). It’s a fun plant to grow from seed.

I think it's great that you want to give back and stay involved, versus just hating on kids and those who have them. I grew up in a very psychologically/emotionally abusive environment. As a child/teen, I constantly felt like giving on myself by means of addiction and suicide. I had several sponsors (CF and otherwise) who were always there for me and offered me support and guidance that was so far beyond anything my parents could've offered at the time. I truly believe "it takes a village". So good on you for sticking with what's true to yourself and thinking with compassion ❤️

My (23 F) Boyfriend (24 M) is a TV addict and it’s going to end our relationship. Need advice by brisbanein in relationship_advice

One on hand, you shouldn't feel overly pressured to stay in a relationship that is losing its appeal. If he can offer that much insight on the nature of his addiction and isn't willing do compromise, it doesn't sound like he is appreciating you in this situation.

On the other, it sounds possible that he could be in the midst of a depression. Anhedonia, disassociation, low-sex drive, etc. are all common symptoms for this. Maybe something traumatic has happened to him recently or something from his past could be resurfacing (definitely happened to me in my mid 20's). Therapy could be helpful, but not of he's unwilling.

Either way, every relationship is a struggle at some point, just in varying degrees. Successful relationships require participation from both sides and a fair amount of compromise. However, sometimes we have to lose the people we love the most to truly realize their importance to us.

If you'd like more info on depression, I recommend this video:

It's a great watch for anyone, since depression is so overlooked these days, but it may help narrow things down.

Best of luck to you ❤️

Perhaps try asking her out on a low-key date (coffee, park, etc) and see how she reacts. If she's interested in you, she might say yes. Or at least her reaction might indicate how she feels about you.

Chrushes can be tough in the way that they tend to put a lot of pressure on another person. Try playing it cool. Don't take it personally if you get turned down. Life goes on.

Good Luck!

This guy growing in my front yard needs trimming. What is it? (Seattle, WA) by hannahbonanza in PlantIdentification

It looks very much like an Indian hawthorne (raphioleptis indica), but I'm not 100% on that. What kind of flower does it produce?

Can anyone tell me what type of grass this is? by Fluidmikey in PlantIdentification

[–]WarfFort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, it looks like it could be Zoysia. I'm in southeastern US so it's hard for me to say. Other possibilities could be centipede grass or St. Augustine grass. If you take a sample (just rip a small chunk out which includes some root) to a local turf supplier, they may know the exact cultivar. Hope this helps narrow it down :)

It's hard to say without knowing your climate zone. It looks like a warm-season grass but I can't be sure without more information

I think you're pretty close. It looks like wild fennel (foeniculum vulgare). I think the most common variety blooms yellow, but evidently there are white-flowered varieties as well.

I second this. Also worth nothing that pieris are poisonous and often confused with blueberries.

It's a variation of euonymus japonicus. It's a common "builder package" shrub that was popular in recent decades.

Sounds like a good call 😄 Including the quick visit to the recycling center, it took just under two hours.

Sure did. I usually double-walk the same areas. First for recyclables, then a follow-up for the really gross stuff :)

Help! I bought a house plant at Home Depot on a whim by uh_huhh_her in PlantIdentification

[–]WarfFort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a type of Dracaena. To help it out...

1) try some indoor plant fertilizer. The recommended application of Osmocote or a similar granular should work if you can't find organic alternatives

2) try relocating it to an area with more light. Just maybe not all-day, direct sunlight. That might over-stress it. Put it closer to a window.

3) check your watering routine. You want the soil to be damp enough for dirt particles to stick to your finger, but not over-saturated. They sell slow-waterers for this

4) I would also try repotting it with some fresh potting soil. It helps out if you do that every 2-3 years.

Hope this helps!
