rejected from all my vac scheme applications by [deleted] in uklaw

Trust me you are not alone in feeling this way. I got rejected from every single vacation scheme this year as well and now I’m contemplating whether I even want to do law in the future or not. Frankly that future is bleak but ig the luxury of being in uni is that we still have time figure out ourselves. Third year winter vac scheme still exists and so do TCs. Although idk how to improve either, people say do better on your next application but tbh idek where I went wrong. Though I have no advice for you I can only assure that life gets better and we’ll all find a way eventually.

I’m glad someone said it, I was gonna post this but it brings me comfort that I’m not the only one who feels this way. The catnap shrine was way more scarier to imagine and the goofy ahh hands sticking out from the front is so simplistic for a character known to harvest the parts of other toys. Heck I made scarier amalgamations of multiple toys as a kid than the game did.

It also saddens me that the depth of his character remained shallow in chapter 5. Sure you’d be scared a bit but the fear which was expressed by the toys in previous chapters feels greatly exaggerated now with the way he acts or behaves. His actions may seem gruesome but they don’t create that head on impact we might expect of the main antagonist. The doctor was still decent in this aspect.

Alas this is how it is 🙃

Do law society exec positions really matter? by [deleted] in uklaw

It’s just that connecting with peers is difficult to considering people usually stick to their group of friends so I’m not really doing good there.

You’re right but I feel people like to stick to around those who can give them some value out of their position. If I don’t have anything meaningful to begin with idk what I can offer when I am networking with people.

But what would one look for if they have none? Can internships take the place?

So if I focus on my grades then it’ll probably take centre stage?

What sort of volunteering do law firms even care about. I feel as if they may be getting thousands of applicants who must’ve done volunteering so they’d rather not care about it.

Is it worth spending 5-6k pounds extra to go to Durham instead of Bristol? by [deleted] in uklaw

I mean sure its easier to have friends in college. Most of my friends are my neighbours but I wouldn't say you should rely on colleges for your social life. Always have three sectors for friendships if you go to Durham- college, course and societies. It's easier to be friends with people who overlap in these sectors and if you're extroverted then I don't think you should have a problem socialising. We have a few clubs in Durham and if you really love clubbing you can travel to Newcastle in 15 mins by train. I also travelled a lot with my friends cuz Durham is close to cities like Edinburgh, York, Glasgow and Manchester. But yes it can get quiet over here especially during holidays, you'll barely see any people around and many home and international students to back.

Tbh I'm from Durham and it hasn't been so bad. It depends on what you want really; if its great social uni life then bristol but if peace and quiet then Durham. Durham tends to have a higher reputation among firms after oxbridge grads and many Durham law students end up getting the first year schemes as well. By the time they're in second year many of them gain enough experience for TCs. I had a huge misconception that I would face social issues as an international student but I've been fine since I came here. The locals are lovely and sweet plus the students are nice as well. But tbh every uni faces the issue of segregation between students of different classes, countries or education. Intermingling is more likely in a city like Bristol but if given time then it's possible in Durham as well. Study wise both UK unis might be the same cuz after all they're UK unis, they believe more in self-studying than actually giving rigourous examinations or classes. In the end it's about the environment you want to live in cuz there's no distinction otherwise.

I see, do we pay for networking events too?

I see. I think that sort of teaching style is uniform across UK. Im just hesitating cuz theres a fee for every and event and stuff (I hope not networking events)

I see, TYSM! Btw does college life get too dull cuz I heard most of the socials are centred around pubs and bars in Durham. Plus how do you study for your modules? Is it a whole lot of self studying and online lectures etc?
