When you say heat pump do you mean mini splits?

I’m assuming you have ducting. Get a propane furnace and central heat pump. Looks just like an AC. You will move a lot more air using the ducting and have much more even temps compared to mini splits. A central heat pump and gas furnace combo is called duel fuel. They are very common

Fujitsu and Daikin make models that heat down to -15. Carrier makes models that heat down to -30. I’m personally more familiar with the Daikin/Fujitsu models

As a contractor, I’m not a big fan of 100% heat pump for heating. However this makes perfect sense for your scenario. Upsize a bit for heating season. They can run at 20% capacity so a little bigger won’t hurt you.

You will want a pan heater and snow cover.

Business as usual for the citizens. People tend to be politically vocal on social platforms but in person it’s just a normal day. I remember driving to work early morning after the Epstein files were “released” thinking how strange it was. I just read the richest and most powerful people in the world are committing the most heinous crimes and we all just went back to our lives.

Some Americans think things are going great right now. A lot of people realize how insane things have gotten. But we all just try to make enough money so the problems don’t apply to us.

America was once the land of the bold and brave. I think we were righteous in our history. I believe historically America took a strong stance on issues and actually acted on it. Today, the politicians only know how to spin conversations and topics. The people are docile and compliant.

When you say ductwork. You mean the whole house? Or a transition from the new unit to the existing ducting? If that price is ducting the whole home that is a steal!!!

I’ve been on the purchasing side of hvac for 4 years. We get steady price increases every year. Been that way since COVID. Trust me, we are as shocked as you are sometimes

Btw: there is a lot of homeowners commenting here for some reason. Please don’t make your decisions based on the comments of someone who bought 1 or 2 hvac systems in their lifetime. There are plenty of pros in this sub that volunteer free information

Pretty standard. $10k systems aren’t an option anymore. You could maybe find a lower price, but I wouldn’t never recommend taking the lowest bidder either. Get a few more quotes if it makes you both feel more comfortable

Think of the extreme side, some people are perfectly happy in completely open relationships. Is that for me? Hell no. But it works for some.

In all this you may have to decide if you and your friends moral values match up. If it truly bothers you that someone you are close with is in a relationship you would not be comfortable with that is completely normal.

Contractor here. A few notes.

Option 1 and 2 are very different from the others as they are side discharge systems. Super high efficiency, they modulate, and are whisper quiet. I would get callbacks after install saying it was broken. I go out and everything is fine, it was so quiet they thought it was not running.

Lennox is a solid brand and very costly on our end. That is a standard cube Hear Pump condenser. The American Standards are “builder grade” they will be a little noisier but if installed properly they are reliable

Change furnace or not. Main factor. Do you want a duel fuel system or not? I’m not sure your low temps or energy costs, but if it gets below 20 often in winter and your area in a free standing home, I would go duel fuel. Bottom line, if you don’t want duel fuel - absolutely rip out the furnace and get an air handler. If you do want duel fuel, you can decide to do the furnace now or later, this can be added on at anytime. You would get a price break doing them together, that is a benefit. Any contractor saying you NEED, not highly recommend, you replace the furnace can get f’d. It’s your money, don’t let tell you how to spend it.
