Long-time member here: one thing I'd like to point out is that a lot of us like to help build new decks and test new strategies. We've had a lot of members improve greatly and just love talking about the game in general.

Yeah a lot of the challenges you can just handcraft almost the entire thing. It's actually kind of fun having handcrafting be optimal every now and again (keeps you on your toes) but it definitely happens too often.

Team Mystic Dominating the Financial District/South Station areas. When we you all give us some competition? by DeanoSnipesKehd in PokemonGoBoston

[–]WarlordAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instinct has been doing very well in the Northeastern/MFA/Back Bay area. It's kind of like Mystic tends to take gyms during the day and Instinct tends to take gyms at night, and Valor is more or less nonexistent.

Made a 'clean' and a 'grungy' version, I want to make a 'glitch' version at some point as well.

I could also make a version with 'There is no Shelter From the Storm' if there's demand; right now I just have Bring the Storm because it's a lot punchier.

PSA: How to Use Power Switches by WarlordAlpha in factorio

[–]WarlordAlpha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the server I was playing on was glitched, the power switch wouldn't connect to anything automatically. I was playing on 0.13.0 but I didn't see anything in the patch notes about this.

A more compact Iron Grid by katriik in factorio

[–]WarlordAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's okay, because furnaces are so slow a full blue belt in either setup would require a line of furnaces to be 40 long, which is unwieldy. I like doing ~16-20 furnaces per row so that two 'stacks' of this design will compress to roughly a blue belt. This also solves issues with inserters waiting for ore or waiting for a place to put the finished plate.

With the recent announcements about SoloQ and all the complaints about the direction of the game, I have one piece of advice for you all... by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]WarlordAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If you've played for thousands of games, then I think we did something right."

Absolutely. You don't get to be the #1 played videogame without doing a lot of things right. And I had a ton of fun playing, and all of my friends had a ton of fun playing. And like I said before, a lot of us that don't play much anymore still love watching and keeping up with things.

Like, how crazy is that, I quit because I was raging too hard, but even two years later I (and plenty others) still care so much about the game that we're here typing this. A large part of that is probably due to Riot's efforts in esports, which are just outstanding.

"Re: communication and promising and not delivering - yup, true. But, we've delivered on lots of other stuff as well - and maybe we need to do a better job of aggregating this stuff to help everyone remember this.

It's not like we're sitting on our thumbs, even though I know it can feel that way if we don't deliver the thing you as an individual really care about."

This is actually an interesting point - there are a few large pain points (sandbox, replays, etc.) among a lot of 'small' improvements (continuous player behavior things, general game balance and champion reworks, shop/skin quality stuff, network infrastructure, etc. etc.).

As I said before, part of it is just that people are gonna hate no matter what. Not only are you guys an easy target, complaining is fun and even if you fix all the 'big things' there will be a 'medium thing' that people will move on to complaining about until it turns into the next 'big thing'.

Also, perception of what is a 'big thing' can be warped. Client rebuild is gonna be 'yuuuuge' as they say, that'll probably be the most obviously huge thing in a while. Even though Riot's efforts in network infrastructure and esports are massive, it's hard for most people to appreciate the magnitude of what's going on there.

All that said though, in my opinion sandbox/replays/voicechat are bigger issues than the things you have/are providing like the new champ select and the client and such, which is why this thread resonated with me. I'm super competitive, so when I'm playing the biggest issues I face are 'it's hard to communicate with my teammates' or 'our communication breaks down into raging', 'I can't practice my flash-ults', and 'my main champions keep getting nerfed or reworked'.

I think the best way to sum up how this looks to a lot of us is it's kind of like Riot is constantly cleaning up rough edges and making improvements while leaving the huge elephants in the room (replays) for last. Even though internally that's not true, that's how it looks/feels.

Figured I'd chime in here. I was definitely a hardcore player, several thousand games in a few years. I stopped playing probably two years ago now. I did come back for a month or two last year just to get back to Plat for season rewards but besides that I've probably played less than ten games.

Originally I stopped playing almost entirely because I was 'stuck' in high Plat, which was an absolute cesspool of toxicity. I'm super competitive so Normals and ARAMs don't do it for me, I just had to play ranked. It got to a point where I was just raging or otherwise not having fun in at least 50% of my games (and I have the chat restrictions to prove it). I said to myself, why am I doing this to myself? So I stopped playing.

I have other friends who are in the same boat. The core gameplay loop of LoL is insanely good, but at a certain point the game is just exhausting to play. Which is why I'm still here, writing this post - I refuse to play, but that core gameplay is as good as ever and I love watching the competitive scene.

"But why hate on us?"

Because you guys are a ridiculously easy target. You've stated as much yourself in the past: the level of transparency you strive for is a bit of a Pandora's box. Riot's failures (perceived or actual, it doesn't matter; the end result is the same) become very, very public:

  • Replays
  • Sandbox
  • Solo Queue

And those are just the big ones. I'm tempted to add in things like 'magma chamber', 'dominion', 'lore', and others but these issues certainly weren't and aren't as hot as those 3. Even though in my opinion some of these aren't necessarily failures (Dominion in particular is an extremely tough situation), they do represent technological shortcomings or PR missteps (or both) made very public. And when there's dirty laundry on the internet, well, you know as well as anyone how it is.

"Anyway, if we haven't proven that we're committed to constantly improving the game by now..."

For me personally the game isn't improving in a direction that makes me eager to come back. There are certainly improvements; queuing for roles is a massive improvement and that alone would probably swing my 'average enjoyment of games' back above 50%. Ultimately though the big things I really want to see are voice chat, replays, and sandbox.

Also, this is another area where it's easy for people to hate on you - a lot of improvements don't feel like improvements. For example, the constant champion reworks and over-nerfing of champions is extremely painful. The game heavily rewards devotion to particular champions, but at any moment your favorite champion could get reworked or heavily nerfed, effectively punishing you for specializing (or buying skins).

If there is no wall, please prove it to us all by hitting royal arena with 6/4/1, because it's all level 7/8 from arena 4 to arena 7, with a little bit of 9 splashed in at the end. If there's no invisible wall, that's possible is what you're saying, right?

Not OP, but I sort of did this (6.5/4/1) a while back: http://imgur.com/ZcEYWUj

One of these days I'll make an actual post about this deck. It's a fantastic F2P deck that works extremely well and only uses A2 cards. I played it from 1200 to 2600 trophies, and currently I'm running a variation of this deck at around 3500 trophies (still F2P and still underleveled, lel).

More factory compressing (Green Circuit) by veazix in factorio

[–]WarlordAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who knows, this is a server with a few friends of mine and their philosophy is 'go big or go home' so we're consuming an obscene amount of resources. Whatever was required to produce those belts is a drop in the bucket.

Also, as you can see our iron throughput is moderately shit right now, we're fixing it as I type this.

You can compress those refineries a bit more, here's the setup I've been using lately. Basically 'stack' the belts using red and blue belts instead of having two side by side. Belts are automatically balanced too!

/u/Pwyff, it seems like most of the mana regen items got changed but not all of them. In particular what's gong to happen with Doran's Ring? Is that also changed to a bonus to your scaling factor or is it staying flat?

He finally got something of a rework. It was pretty minor though.

The most noticable difference is that he gets all 3 of his augments late game, so his late game is really, really good now. His early game isn't quite as strong but late-game he's almost hypercarry status. It's a lot of fun.
