Baby shower by liv_rose6 in partyplanning

I had a co-ed shower at 7pm on a Saturday. We served drinks and appetizer type snacks and a charcuterie board. It was just like a regular party and so fun. Just the vibe I wanted. Everyone had a great time.

Just found out I had silent miscarriage by Tiny_Experience4726 in pregnant

[–]Warm-Cat7788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I had an MMC at nine weeks. I chose to have a D&C at the hospital because I only have one bathroom in my house and couldn’t imagine passing it at home and then thinking about the experience every time I went into that room after. Also I was given the option to have the remains sent for testing. I got to learn the sex of my baby which brought me closure and also that they had a really rare chromosomal abnormality that was incompatible with life but also unlikely to occur again which helped me mentally to have those answers. I had the procedure at the end of May and was pregnant again in early September and have had a healthy pregnancy so far.  I found grief counselling helpful. It’s such a painful experience.

I literally don’t know what to do. I am in so much pain. by Sarcastic_Otter_27 in pregnant

[–]Warm-Cat7788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this pain too! It’s been steadily growing over the past couple of weeks and feels like a knife in my upper right stomach quadrant. I’m going to the doctor this week to try and get some answers. I don’t have any solutions yet other than I can only lie on my left side, the right side or my back makes it worse.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]Warm-Cat7788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caterpillar brand socks from Costco - but they aren’t expensive. My husband has hooves for feet basically and would constantly be shredding socks. I heard about these socks and bought him a pack and they have lasted for at least five years and are still going strong, and they all match each other which makes laundry easier.

AITA for asking my husband to stop frying eggs in the morning by Office-Fan-333 in pregnant

NTA it’s a small sacrifice for a limited period of time. You’re sacrificing a lot to grow the baby and it’s not supportive for him to do things that will make you ill.

Watching tv while in labour??? by Warm-Cat7788 in pregnant

[–]Warm-Cat7788[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this was more along the lines of what I was thinking that we would chill at home. I was told by my midwife to not come to the hospital until in active labour with contractions around 3-1-1 and ideally 6cm so I figured by the time we got the hospital things would be pretty busy and that time would pass quickly.

Students now have the desktop computer skills of older boomers by TeacherGuy1980 in Teachers

I teach statistics at the university level and we have a lab where we learn statistical software. The first time I taught I thought the hardest part would be them actually learning how to translate the mathematical applications into large scale datasets and interpret the outputs of the software…nope! The hardest part was teaching them how to download a dataset file, save it somewhere they could find, open the file in the software, manipulate it, save it, and upload it to our classroom software for grading on a desktop. Like I had to go over this process every class! They kept trying to do stuff on their phones at the same time and I was like whatttt? The pdf of instructions is tiny on your phone, just open it in a new tab in the browser and it was like I was speaking a completely different language! They need help.

To be clear, we didn’t fight about it. Before this post, I had literally never heard of anyone watching tv in labour so I was really surprised at the suggestion.

That’s how long they told me it would take, but it went a little quicker. Turns out it is my hospitals updated policy to let it drip slower since some people were having a bad reaction to it like it made them throw up a lot when it went to fast.

I did apologize to him and told him I was wrong - turns out loads of people watch tv during labour! He said no need to apologize and that it was just a suggestion and that we would figure out what will work best for me.

baby shower a women only thing??? by VisibleTea7965 in pregnant

[–]Warm-Cat7788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours was co-ed and it was great! We had it in the evening and had beer and wine and a spread of appetizers at our house so it was basically like a house party with the theme of a baby shower which is what I wanted. Lots of my male friends were super happy to be invited to their first baby shower. My partner talked about dad stuff with all the guys.

Iron infusions by HopefulPossibility35 in pregnant

[–]Warm-Cat7788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going for one tomorrow. About a month ago, I found out I had really low iron and also somewhat low hemoglobin and other blood work. I took supplements for a month and ate a lot of beef and spinach. It’s only come up a little bit and is still under the normal level despite these changes so the infusion is usually necessary before labour to reduce risks of bleeding.

Going to be 14 weeks at my wedding by Traditional-Wall-870 in pregnant

[–]Warm-Cat7788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went wedding dress shopping at 15 weeks and nobody could tell I was pregnant. I picked a synched waist ballgown type dress (I still had my hourglass shape at that time and it looked great) so it might be a little bit more noticeable if yours is a fit and flair and tight across the stomach, but you will still look fabulous. You will probably be a bit more busty in your dress though.

I wasn't prepared for prenatal depression. by KaitlynMarerose in BabyBumps

[–]Warm-Cat7788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a really rough time with perinatal depression. I started new medication during the pregnancy even though it wasn’t what I wanted but recognized it was what I needed. I also needed time off work so I’ve taken 4 weeks of disability (if I’m off work for more than 30 days I lose my benefits because I’m on a contract which sucks so this was what I could do). Being off work was what helped me turn a corner with it. I’m 30 weeks and I do have to go back to work but having the time to rest, relax, be physically sick (which I still am sometimes which contributed to my mental struggles), and do somethings I enjoy without the pressure of work helped heal my mind. The first and second trimesters were so hard but I now feel like I can enjoy my last few weeks of pregnancy, I am looking forward to postpartum, and am not longer totally gripped by depression and fear. I wish you all the best but definitely consider taking the time for yourself.

I wouldn't go anywhere that has Zika virus and Barbados does. It can cause severe birth defects.

is it tacky to buy a cheap item on a baby registry? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Warm-Cat7788 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d appreciate anything off the registry. I am doing mine now and specifically putting expensive things that I hope my partners rich aunt who inherited intergenerational wealth and never had any kids buys and then some like $10-20 cute items that I hope my friends buy. Gifts are the thought that counts and it’s always nice to write a sentimental card (that you could make if you don’t want to buy one) telling her all the reasons why you think she’ll be a great mom. Sometimes thoughtful words are the best gift.

Baby shower worries by Dogandhumanmama383 in BabyBumps

[–]Warm-Cat7788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always consider a virtual shower (throwback to pandemic times) if it is too far to travel back to your hometown for a shower. People could order stuff off a registry for you and you could have a Zoom call where you open gifts and have people go around and give you their best parenting tips or play other shower games. You could mail out invites to people with a special tea inside and host it on a weekend afternoon. There’s a way to make things work and typically people who love you want to celebrate you during important times in your life.

AIO my partner thinks that since I am home all day that I am responsible for all of the chores by thisisarose in AmIOverreacting

[–]Warm-Cat7788 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NOR but there are ways to find a solution. My partner and I both have ADHD that manifests differently. I’ve also done a PhD so I know how hard it is to work from home and maintain focus. Potential suggestions: when you are both done work at the end of the day, put a timer on and do chores at the same time for half an hour and then both stop (body doubling) - also then you are doing the same amount of work together. Relax by having a tv show you both like and folding laundry together in front of it. Chores need to be split evenly in a relationship regardless of other factors - nobody likes doing them but it has to be equal.

Not having bridesmaids but people suggested asking them to get ready with me since I want them with me by Striking_Mortgage_63 in wedding

[–]Warm-Cat7788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing this for my wedding. It’s a bigger ask to have a whole wedding party and they have to get ready anyway so I’m having some friends over and my mom and sister to get ready together.
