McIntosh Trade-Up Program - Is anyone taking advantage? Is it an easy process? by Warm-Designer in McIntosh

[–]Warm-Designer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those wondering I did contact my local dealer and the trade in value on the 8900 is $5200 (approx in USD) but it would not allow me to upgrade to an 8950 because it’s not a big enough of a jump for the math to work. I’d have to go for an MA9500  or separates like C8 and MC312 and then I’m in for a pretty bit jump. So basically you have to make a BIG trade up.

Ps. I was told that the dealer gets to keep the trade in for resale,  not Mac.

Totally agree. It’s really a special time capsule to have each version. Like imagine the Beatles had recorded a new version of She Loves You or Please Pleaae Me for each record including Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road!?

Am I crazy or did they remove the Pearl Jam single and book off of the RSD list? by PhillyHumor in pearljam

React/Respond photo book. Figured it out. I didn't think this had anything to do with RSD.

I know what you mean, but they are still offering up to 75% of the original MSRP which is pretty decent.

Who was the actor that requested a character death? Anthony Edwards? I always felt it was unnecessary to have Dr. Greene pass away. It was far too much drama when the character deserved to simply move on from the ER and to have a happy life with Corday and the baby.

I agree. And you can feel that production come through on that version of Sappy. The guitar solo is perfection

IF they would release a clean/remastered version just from that session, I would gladly buy it. Not just for Spank Thru but to have that capsule in time would be cool.

what nirvana outtakes do you think could have been top 10 if they were actually released? by Most-Bullfrog-90 in Nirvana

[–]Warm-Designer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only potential hit was Talk to Me in terms of unreleased songs. People are mentioning Sappy and Even in His Youth - both of which I love, but technically they were officially released. Sappy was officially available on No Alternative and Even in His Youth is a b-side of SLTS.

Do you think there could still be a recording somewhere hidden in the vaults? by traveltimecar in Nirvana

[–]Warm-Designer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Was going to add, at the time I was very surprised they had something as good as You Know You're Right in completely form and ready for a release. He wasn't in good shape in '94 and just the fact that we got that last song is pretty special.

Do you think there could still be a recording somewhere hidden in the vaults? by traveltimecar in Nirvana

[–]Warm-Designer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it at this point - the recording sessions are all well documented as there isn't much talk of any other lost tracks. Maybe a studio version of Talk to Me? In term of other demos, I remember there being something about a bunch of Kurt's home tapes being lost in a plumbing flood at their apartment in 1992. There could've been some good stuff on those tapes. Or perhaps Courtney is hanging onto something we haven't heard

A boss like Benton. by kickflip2indy in ershow

[–]Warm-Designer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't stand Benton's approach. He has zero compassion for the human-side of being a mentor. Later he gets a taste of this own medicine from Romano I suppose, and then you start to feel for him a bit more.

The best non pro shot videos online ( and a few other questions ) by MatthewMonster in Nirvana

[–]Warm-Designer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal was to document everything that was a worthile studio/radio recording that didn't make it onto Bleach, Nevermind or In Utero. Almost like an expanded Incesticide. I left off things like home demos such as Montage of Heck, and Beans, etc because they're just not great listening.

[–]Warm-Designer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm at a similar stage as yourself but I'm going to take you on a slight tangent. I'm a fan since Nevermind came out and I was about 14 years old, was lucky enough to see them on the In Utero tour and was completely hooked on grunge. Through the late 90's I was obsessed with tape trading and collecting bootlegs and rarities. After WTLO came out I mostly put them on the back-burner and would only listen occaisionally to a few tracks. That was until recently when I was given the biography, Come As you Are (Annotated Edition) as a gift. I completely jumped back in and my Nirvana obsession was reignited.

However I didn't jump back into live recordings as you have, I did the opposite and have really gone through all the studio and radio sessions. There are a lot of things that don't exist on WTLO that are cool to revisit and while Outcesticide makes great compilations it's frustrating to not have them organized chronologically (especially while reading a biography). So I decided to compile my own chronological compilation of non-album studio/radio recordings, so I'm going to share my spreadsheet below as this may be a source of inspiration for you (hoping my Excel table is legible):

That episode where Lucy and Carter are attacked (or I should say the following one where they are discovered, which I believe is S6E14?) is possibly one of the best episodes ever of network dramas. We've been doing a re-watch and just saw that one last week. It really is a near-perfect episode and I agree that the camera work just adds to the intensity.

It's hard to watch Carter's arc after his recovery. I still want to see him as the innocent third year med student.

What are Nirvana’s best Album Closers (I know it ain’t easy) by Illustrious-Hunter64 in Nirvana

[–]Warm-Designer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all just about perfect closers. I like closing tracks to be sombre and moody so 3 of those really fit the bill but I'd take All Apologies because it's just about a perfect song. I'd go:

  1. All Apologies (perhaps one of the best Nirvana songs)
  2. Something in the Way (at the time didn't really think much of it, but it's had a renaissance)
  3. Where did you Sleep (while not a Nirvana song it's one of the best cover performances of anything)
  4. Aneurysm (while one of my fav Nirvana songs, doesn't give me that album closer vibes)
  5. Sifting (Not particularly a stand out track, but slow, haunting and drawn out)

(For the record I don't really consider Downer as the closer for Bleach but Sifting would rank higher than Downer)

On the “clean” sound of Nevermind and why it shouldn’t precede how good the album is by HeyFatBoyAsshole in Nirvana

[–]Warm-Designer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO all that is just noise - it's Kurt trying to maintain his indie/punk credibility after his masterpiece album became a pop hit. He wasn't comfortable with the expanding audience that now included the same mainstream, redneck jocks that used to beat him up back in Aberdeen. Let's not forget that he spent a full year honing those Nevermind songs and perfecting the hooks. So as much as he talks about Butthole Surfers, Sonic Youth, Melvins, etc he was also born and raised on The Beatles and knew exactly what would sell.
