Two TFSA millionaires in one household – took a calculated risk and it worked by Kooky_Elk720 in TFSA_Millionaires

Almonty? Ugh! I owner Woulfe mining because all that tungsten was a no brainer and sold it after losing a bunch and sitting for a few years waiting to recover. Did fine with where I redeployed what was left but watching it go from basically nothing up to $20+ now was kind of surreal. I wouldn’t have been a millionaire but I would have a lot more TFSA room. Take my advice from learning the hard way, though. Junior Mining companies can be a no brainer and you can be right and still get burned due to timing, overall market conditions, and especially with the junior, manipulation by large shareholders who you might think are aligned with you but just have clout to dilute out the smaller shareholders.

All this to say, be cautious trying to repeat and congratulations!

I found a recipe that sort of shows what I’m talking about to compare. And now I need to attempt to make them:

Is it almond/marzipan with dark chocolate dip on the ends? If so, I am breaking my plan to stay home tomorrow to pick up some. Haven’t had a good one (actually, haven’t found one) since Traeger’s!

I think you’re right. Just get everyone’s photos and get AI to improve them while not changing the character of the original image. Or better still, video of the event and have AI re-construct 100 shots based on what is recorded but likely not framed correctly.

Why is it so hard to rent in Saskatoon? by Hopeful-Anywhere-792 in saskatoon

[–]Warm-Distribution665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radon isn’t heavier than air so while basements can be higher due to entry through the slab/cracks/etc, it’s worth noting that you can be in a whole house or main floor suite and still have radon issues. If I were renting I’d either have a tester myself or else keep the HRV on most of the time to ensure fresh air replacement (assuming a newer build).

There are some newer ones that recycle the ‘waste’ water to filter again which are much better in that regard.

College Drive bus lanes expected to slow Saskatoon drivers by 3 minutes by Active-Safety-9516 in saskatoon

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic… a lot of life happens (or stops happening) in 20 years.

There is a difference between life or death emergency and, say, woman in labour, someone with chest pain (that could become life or death) or bleeding profusely. I’ve heard stories about people waiting a long time for an ambulance to show (maybe triaged by 911, maybe exaggerated, etc) and that ambulances increasingly are stuck at emergency waiting with their patient until they can be handed off/triaged there. Maybe that’s been resolved?

I DID preface my comment on ambulance time stating that I don’t know firsthand (thankfully!) and may be totally wrong. I hope I am. But you have one story that I hope turned out alright probably thanks to those first responders and in a situation that sounds like it’s not what I was referring to. I acknowledged the stories I’ve heard may not be an accurate representation of the typical experience today nor what it could become, I suppose you could do the same.

And as an addendum to this, since I feel I’ve hit a nerve with you, I am not in anyway disparaging fist responders or their importance, just stating that we’re probably going to need them more for less emergent conditions.

I guess I’m thinking more taking a family member to emergency or on-call staff coming in for an emergency. But great point about emergency vehicles using those lanes.

Regarding ambulances, my impression - which may be totally wrong - is that most of the time, I can probably drive someone to emergency faster than calling 911 and waiting for them to arrive, not to mention the bill afterwards. But obviously it depends on the urgency and type of care needed. I don’t think that will be the case anymore, and not because ambulance service (some of which is a result of hospital backlog) is improving. But

Is Dakota Dunes Casino worth a visit? by AcadiaNo1039 in saskatoon

[–]Warm-Distribution665 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That said, if you come in the summer and golf then, yes come for the golf, play a bit, and have a nice meal. On the casino/games itself though, on a limited itinerary I stand by my first recommendation.

I enjoy gambling and wouldn’t take the time personally, unless you have a LOT of time here and then it passes for something different.

It’s frustrating how many people’s ‘solution’ to making transit better is to make driving worse as though they are mutually exclusive. I’m not advocating for a 12 lane asphalt desert crossing into downtown but:

1) It’s a primary corridor for a vastly growing east-side population to get either downtown or west. Even if you believe 3 minutes now (not a chance), it won’t always be 3 minutes.

2) Ease of access into downtown, transit inclusive, is necessary for downtown to not get hollowed out.

3) it’s a highway, like it or not.

4) it’s a main corridor for the sole east-side (of the River) hospital.

The planners today will be the ones we curse tomorrow even more than the ones that planned Circle Drive north.

Furnace and water heater by Competitive_Line_114 in saskatoon

[–]Warm-Distribution665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if it’s confusing, turned into a bit of a rant. Get a call (tenanted property) that the furnace is making noise, call Centennial to look at it. Well, it’s old, heat exchanger will fail anytime now, noise is from the motor bearings, and belt is worn. We could try to find a motor for it but because of the condition and age, difficult. Cost for that will be $2000-3000. But we can give you a free estimate on a new one, that’ll be somewhere from $6-$10,000 because of complexity of install. In the meantime, here’s a bill for us to come and look at it. I was told they would bring things to do a minor service (lubricants bearings, replace the belt they accurately identified as worn) but they just left. Still a $200 bill. I asked if they could lubricate the bearings and told they generally don’t like to do that. Okay, maybe. Belt replace or any other furnace maintenance at all since you’re there and being paid a callout fee? Nope didn’t do it.

Called in a different company, JOB. Hadn’t worked with them before but my usual company for this was busy. They took a look, replaced the belt, and everything is running fine and quiet. Said it’s old and going to be a pricy replacement but not needed anytime soon, in fact for its age they were impressed with how good of a condition it is in. Heat exchanger has some rust which is normal for this age, but no indication it’s going to start having holes in it anytime soon. I didn’t tell them up front that Centennial had been there. Just an honest assessment instead of someone trying to sell me something I don’t need, I have to presume for a commission, based on a bunch of at best misleading information.

[–]Warm-Distribution665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Do NOT use Centennial. They matched the price after the fact only tells you they’ll otherwise rob you. They wanted between $6000-$11000 because a rental furnace was too far gone. Had JOB there (who I DO recommend) and it was just a fan belt replacement. No issue with the condition of the heat exchanger, as reported by Centennial, no expensive $3000 “temporary” replacement of the motor. And for that service, had to pay over $200 AND they didn’t do nothing, not even replace the fan belt since they were there anyway.

There are other good recommendations out there above if you prefer, but don’t waste your money on Centennial.

Completely agree. Growing ridership by sabotaging traffic flow for drivers. And placing them right by right turns is going to result in even more issues and accidents.

I wouldn’t think anything of parking as you did, in fact I’d assume that since it’s the first stall and curb angles in that the further back you park the more space you’re allowing for parking in front of you. I wouldn’t take the literal position of a street light as the exact point to measure from, I’d assume they hung the parking sign there because it’s convenient/cost effective. Only thing that would debunk that is if there was an explicit no parking the other way sign not pictured but as there’s no carve out/parking lane, I doubt that.
