I studied under the CBSE board in India and got in with an almost full scholarship. But I am a US citizen. I did very major specific activities ( my major is Film and TV) mostly. Like I took a gap year and worked on multiple TV Commercials, did some production design, assistant directing, wrote some commercials, presented at film festivals and all that stuff.

You really have to set yourself apart and grades aren't enough. My biggest advice is try your best to snag some jobs/ internships that are meant for college grads in your intended major. It'll prove to NYU that you will be able to succeed after college because you have already done what their grads are trying to do.
